To those complaining about being stuck as a support in DQ

Hay5eed··18 votes·1,331 views

This isn't Riot's fault. Riot programmed Dynamic Queue to give everyone their main role, and if it couldn't do that, to at least give them their secondary role. This is shared across ALL positions.

Riot didn't make the program take anyone that's in DQ with support as secondary and shove them in support role, it's doing what it is meant to do, fill all roles while making sure people get one of the two roles that they picked.

Don't like playing support? DON'T FREAKING PUT IT AS A PREFERRED ROLE THEN. Learn another role, like jung, so that you can put THAT as your secondary.

Don't make posts asking Riot to "fix it" cause it's not broken. It is literally doing NOTHING wrong. The reason that you are stuck as a support is cause there aren't enough support main's out there.

The problem is people want their primary role more than their secondary.

Let's say my best two roles are top and support, with a preference to top. If I put support as my secondary, I'm very likely going to be only playing support. This is incredibly annoying as it is my secondary role. It turns people who might not normally mind occasionally supporting away from queueing up as support at all.

So to play my main role, let's say instead I queue up as top and my third hest role, we'll just say mid. Now when the system works as it is intended and I occasionally get my second role, I'm playing my third best role which feels horrible when trying to go up in the rankings.

This also applies to people who put in fill with the expectation of playing a variety of roles, rather than just support.

The way it is currently, we have people who won't put support as their secondary which means there is an even greater need for supports. If that is how it is intended, then that is poor design.

a agree completely, sometimes i hit fill just because i want a quick game, but i might as well just put support. if you put fill for 10 games you will support about 8 of them, the system is ok, but there is room for improvement.

Yep. I'm a jungle main with support being my second best role. I now am putting mid as my secondary despite it being my weakest role, just because of the nature of the beast.

On one hand, it's great for ranked, because I can completely ignore roles that carry by proxy, but on the other hand, I shouldn't have to completely ignore a role I enjoy playing on occasion because Riot neglected the support role so badly support play is at an all-time low. You don't hear a single support main complain about queue times, because they can find game quicker than in Teambuilder, and that mode was completely neglected to support secondaries.

Just going to say that I actually don't want my primary more than my secondary. I play mid and jungle, and am completely happy with getting either one of them roughly equally.

Of course, if it did actually favour primary, then I could get around that by swapping which one I pick as primary every time I queue.

Lazypeon1003 votes

Ya, I could understand that if that's how you view it. Though the way it is worded and the way riot has described how they want the system to work clashes with how it actually works.

I do for the most part actually like the new champ select (not DQ). If it works for you though, more power to you.

Yes, in practice it's more like "name your two roles", rather than the "primary and secondary" that is advertised.

It's really because of the way the champion select works. As I understand it, as soon as you join the queue, it slots you into an existing game as whichever of your two roles is needed, and once you're put into that slot, you won't be moved again. It doesn't actually look back through all the people who are in the queue and then try to fit them into games using their primary role first - which is what it should do.

Oh, and I fully agree that it doesn't work for anyone who has support as one of their roles. You just get support pretty much every time. I was just saying that it actually works for most other roles because the demand for them isn't that uneven, so you actually do end up getting either role roughly equally.

Also, I used to play support a fair bit, but I almost never play it in season 6 because I'm guaranteed to get it every game if I put it in there.

The people who don't support complain the most about them, demand the most from them, and do the least to help them

Sincerely, This support main

Here's the actual problem.

Say I like playing Jungle and Support. If I want to EVER play Jungle, I can't have support as an option

Or:

Say I like playing Top, but I can play any role. If I want to not play support 95% of the time, I can't pick fill.

But it's Riot who can make support role more appealing. Unfun role => less players for this role => players get forced into support role if they choose support or fill => players complain.

Remlap12231 votes

The support role has always been the red headed stepchild. Riot has time and time again shafted the support role. At best they miss the mark (AP utility scaling on Lulu and Sona) and at worst they completely ignore the role (XP starvation, Sighstone having less charges, STILL no effective way to earn gold, items still woefully expensive regardless.)

I changed my secondary from support to mid just because of this system.

I was fine with supporting every 2 to 4 games but only getting top every 5th or 6th game if I am lucky is reason enough to abandon support as my secondary.

We are not complaining about having to support since we solved that by no longer picking support. We are complaining about how the system effectively punished us away from sometimes playing support which we were fine with when it needed to be done, which in turn made queue times skyrocket.

A 15 minute queue time for a 20 to 30 minute game would suggest something is really wrong.

Remlap12232 votes

Yep, I'm only putting support in as my preferred role when I really just wanna play Nami or something. Support secondary doesn't exist in Rito's new system.

i just wish they didn't have two support buttons. one is enough.

Mautok2 votes

if you go in support no matter if its first position or not and pick something else 99% of the time you get support ... riot hasnt dont anything to fix that issue and wontYorick

Hay5eed1 votes

cause it's not an issue. It is not riot's fault that people don't often play support. The only way that they could fix this would be to add a fourth lane and remove support entirely. The nature of the support is against every other role in league.

You a jungler? You stole 15 kills? Well depending on who you are playing you can solo carry. Top? Same thing. Mid? Yep. Adc? Certainly. Support? If you get 15 kills as a support you are probably doing something wrong (unless you have twice as many assists) and you likely won't be able to carry and you'll lose cause you starved your team of kills

alfavhunter2 votes

THE END IS NEAR

I que'd as jungle support and I got jungler! It's a sign of the end times I tell you! (Took 50 games as jungle support to get jungler)

I'm a support main but even then I don't want to play support EVERY game, the current system needs a "safeguards" program.

Example, for every 4 games you end up as your secondary role you get a primary token letting you chose your primary role a second time to garentee that is what you will get, this means if you play 4 games as mid/support the 5th game (assuming you ended up as a support for the 1st 4) you can que up as mid/mid

DQ =/= new champ select.

Problem is, some people only main two roles, one of them being support. Why should they be forced to change their playstyle by learning a new role (or choose a role they will under-perform in) just because they don't want to ONLY play support?

the thing about the new dq and champ select put pressure on the only one role people which is alot of the game.. YOU dont have to main everthing IF you dont want too.. NOW its forced.. simply putYorick

op is an idiot, no one has ever gotten anything but support if they have it as secondary.

no matter where you put support you will get it 100% of the time

Beldair1 votes

and the OP is basically saying, you don't want support...then don't put it as secondary. Put something like Top/Mid if you really want to play top or whatnot..

The reason ppl always get put in support when they choose Secondary support, is because of the lack of Primary Support players.

Which is partially due to how toxic ppl can be to them and the fact that they do tend to get ignored when ppl dole out recognition. The "fed" champs get the most recognition. And some supports would appreciate a great job, or nice save, or even a great set up. Supports would possibly appreciate the praise and recognition of a job well done.

Also, Support is least popular because most ppl want to play damage roles like ADC, Mid, and Jungle. Or be super tank top/jungle or fighter.

They just don't feel like they contribute to team fights as a support (which is not true of a support).

Wrong

Your "solution" is why game queues are so much longer now than they were starting out.

Because fewer and fewer people are putting Fill or Support secondary, the system forces those few who do to Support every time, causing less people to want to do that, causing longer queue times.

Riot has even said implementing the system the way they did was naive!

The system needs fixed for the good of everyone. Picking different roles is only a "solution" for one person.

I always put support as my primary role and I always get support. Are you saying this is working as intended? I'm confused.

The Whamboozler1 votes

Down this road lies less people in queue for support... which makes the people who pick support as secondary get it even MORE often, and makes fill even MORE likely to give people support as a role... which makes people stop putting down support and fill in queue.... which makes for even LESS people in queue as supports... which makes people who picked it secondary or picked "fill" get it even MORE often... which makes people stop putting down support or fill in queue... which makes for-

You get the idea. The end result is very few supports and longer queue times for anyone NOT picking support.

Hay5eed1 votes

But you DO understand my point though don't you?

The Whamboozler1 votes

Yes. That support as a role blows and that is why no one wants to support. But your proposed solution of "than no one queue for it" just means we'll have fewer supports and longer queue times.

Hay5eed1 votes

But support DOESNT blow. Support is gangsta AF. Face it, anybody can roll up with a m9 and cap a dude in the face and kill him, but a straight GANGSTA beats the crap out of that dude and ties that dude up and makes that dude wait for one of his underlings to kill him.

Mautok1 votes

Support should be a high demand role.... but really if you look at the pool its tank and spank.... or HEY ASSHOLE you took most of my kills.. oops sorryYorick
