My idea how to make Ryze viable again

I think he's fine in terms of how much damage he deals so we don't need to increase that..

But the buff that he needs to make him a viable mage, is to increase the range on his abilities by just a bit. Not too much tho, but this would be a start.

Reasons why: After some time of playing ryze I realised that the issue is that most mages abilities have a higher range than his... In teamfights he needs to get up really close to deal damage and he can easily get bursted down from anyone and increasing the range would be a step in the right direction from my point of view.

Leave your thoughts below, any kind of feedback is appreciated.

Pretty sure Ryze is already Viable, Seeing as the pros have been picking him Quite a bit at worlds...

Wow, that damage! Were you playing a bot game?

No, just a really long normal game lol, it was a 51 Minute game...

I think increasing his ranges would be overkill.

He does well once people have x games on him so it's more a skill-floor problem.

Ryze basically needs to position like an ADC later in the game, but he also has his "o sht! EWQ--->fast" that he can reposition with.

Idk if his WR is just a reflection of people not backing up appropriately when they don't have E+W up and ready.

So something weird I also noticed...

I looked at his kit again, and noticed that Ryze Q damage is increased by 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80% when he has someone marked by his E, the damage bonus depends on the rank of his E. So I went on a few games testing out to max his E first instead of his Q and it's surprisingly A LOT better.

Because the percentage bonus that he gets when he marks his enemies and then uses Q deals so much more dmg early and overall is so much better than plain base damage and movement speed bonus he gets when maxing his Q.

I won 3 games out of 4 by maxing E and I actually carried games with Ryze as weird as it feels to say..

Most Ryze players max E first but put two points into q early I think

Yeah, definitely. I guess it's no coincidence that the highest WR on analytics sites is E into 3 Q points then max E then Q. (W at 3 obv.).

Really cool you figured it out on the fly though^^

Sounds fun as hell.

Yeah I felt happy because he's my first mage I ever played in league [galio-happy]

But he is mega viable ...

I'd just say remove the point and click W and put the power from that ability back into his kit. His W does gate a lot of his power.

What makes you think he's not viable?

Other Mages have better:

  • Beter ability range
  • Better CC
  • Better AOE damage

And his winrate is still at around 42%, do I need to continue? He might still be a playable champion but a little buff would help him get up again.

High skill cap. 42% win rate doesnt mean anything if most players are not even playing him to his full potential.

They can't really increase his range, would you imagine being able to point-and-click snare anyone from high range? Yeah that would be OP. His damage is technically fine, he deals a lot both early and lategame. His biggest problem is to manage dishing out that damage while in teamfights. Unlike other magesthat dart in and out with quick trades, Ryze has to deal his damage in extended trades.

Also like others have said, he does have a high skill-floor and it's hard to maximize his ult's potential without proper team coordination.

I didn't mean increase range of all his abilities just some of them, but clearly it was a bad suggestion regardless.

ryze is perfectly viable. he just has a stupidly high learning curve.

he might be a slight bit on the weak side. problem is, its REALLY hard to judge, because his winrate is deflated by newbies who dont have 200 games on him.

He is nowhere near "non-viable", and increasing his range would make him a horror to fight against at top lane.

I was gonna suggest changing his passive a bit. As an Arcane master I expect you to become more proficient as time goes on at casting the same abilities over and over . So I figured a steady natural (capped limit) scaling CDR in his kit would be nice. This would save him an item slot on not buying CDR and more raw AP like Cass with boots.
