Could Ranked Use Additional Requirements To Queue?
I don't understand, if someone is just "playing for fun" or maybe doesn't care to actually learn the game, why not play normal modes?
I get it -- not everyone sits around in their parents basement playing League of Legends all day.
The issue is, people come into ranked looking like a clown when they have no clue how to play and build the champion they are using. The really weird part is I never encounter these types of players until my win rates starts hitting 50%+, almost like the system knows these people are unskilled, inexperienced, and is just seeing if they can drag you down.
Mind you, I'm not talking about people just having one or two bad games. One player in my recent games played Tryndamere Top... he didn't even seem to understand the concept of Top lane. This guy didn't seem like he was trolling, he legit seemed like he just didn't actually know how to play the game properly. He built tank items on Tryndamere with 0 offensive items. He ran around between mid and top looking in the enemy Jungle for people to fight and didn't farm. The guy literally didn't know how to play League of Legends. How is someone like this playing in a ranked match and why?
It would be a lie to say that I find these exact players every single game, it wouldn't be an understatement to say there's a lot of them out there however.
It's pretty understandable that not everyone is going to be "amazing" at league. I'm not the greatest League of Legends player myself, I'd say all of us have our flaws. I do really believe there should be a higher bar set with some type of requirements before you can join a ranked queue though. It's not hard to unlock 16 champions and reach level 30, any player can do that even without really learning the game completely. When someone sees a level 30 unranked in their ranked match it's impossible to know if they were maybe a banned player making a new account, a smurf, a bronze player who couldn't climb, or maybe someone who is actually new to the game. It doesn't even matter what rank you are, you acquire every category all the way up in Plat. On one of my other accounts the system placed me into a low Plat / High Gold match after winning my first couple ranked placement games -- which I was carried in both, just to get destroyed by these Plat players.
While for those who smurf, having additional requirements would be annoying, I think it would help improve quality and also the competitive nature of ranked. Personally, I don't have many ideas for what exactly they could implement, but perhaps some type of "Mastery" requirement could be a start? Perhaps that wouldn't actually solve anything but having 3-4 champions at level 5 before being able to queue in ranked would ensure that they've at least got the basic understanding of multiple champions without being a terribly burdening task. Most smurfs only spam a few champions anyways, so it wouldn't be doing anything outside of the norm for that category of players anyways.
Overall this wouldn't stop unranked players from being put in games they likely won't have a chance in, but it definitely might help a little.
Anyone else have these experiences?
