Bard will be underpowered

His only escape tool (or engage tool as rito calls it) allows enemy champions through as well

  1. he has to roam god knows where to collect chimes that can spawn randomly anywhere on the map (inb4 "OMFG bard chimes are always spawning in enemy jungler or in top lane" threads)

  2. Yes create an ult that makes everything immune! that stun would be great if we could actually kill them! oh boy youre about to die? here LET ME STUN YOU TEAM!

  3. health shrines: cant even give him a straight up heal, its gotta be a shrine that has to charge up

  4. what is this guy a tank or an AP or what? his passive makes me think if I built him straight AP Id rape everyone with that bonus damage but then hes supposed to be a support... tank? or?

EDIT: After reading the posts a few things I should note

  1. The portal is one way meaning if he uses it only as an engage ,IT FORCES bard to take flash or have no means of escape if he isnt built tanky However if used as an escape it wont work, forcing flash or tank build

  2. with the roaming, unless riot codes it so the stuff wont spawn on the opposite side of the map entire time and will spawn more mid to bot and on your side of the map, bard wont be able to collect them unless he wants to leave his laner 1v2 the entire time THAT OR they need to NEVER despawn and continuously spawn without the enemy being able to take them out because right now rito says they spawn randomly through out the map which means statistically alot of those will despawn/ spawn places bard cant get to (being that only 1/4 of the map is a viable place for it to spawn in the early and mid game so 25% of the spawn will be on the opposite side of your side bot (tword top lane) and 50% will be on the enemy side of the map

  3. It could make plays if they designed it better, being able to target LITERALLY ANYTHING makes it usefull and useless, its usefull for stuff like contesting dragons barons and turrets but then depending on the CD of it, how do you use it for the teamfight that happens right after? or do you not use it on drag lose drag and use it on the fight? to many decisions with it makes it usefull but at the same time so complicated that half the time itll only be used for one or two things and then never be used for everything else

  4. The problem here is when you arent roaming you dont have insta heals, sure you can set them up but they have to charge, and arent a life saving heal for the ADC, why take bard over soraka? you know? why take bard over any support? bard HAS TO ROAM to be good, which means screwing over your own exp gain and your ADC if they have a heavy poke comp or wombo combo bot lane (with all the champions there are and little bans, bot will be screwed)

  5. If he is built just a support, then why would anyone bother playing him? support items suck? they honestly arent good, ohmwrecker? to expensive for meager stats, locket? WAY TO expensive for a weak sheild and some meager MR, sightstone? the only decent support item out there, but if he scales on AP then its hurting him if he isnt going tanky

also what item would you build for gold income? relic? that means he should be going tanky

ancient coin? you mean the useless gold income item nobody ever buys?

the ap item? meaning youd want bard to go AP not tank meaning sight stone would hurt him

  1. an add on: but his stun, it slows the target it hits, stuns both if it hits two targets, Hows that going to play out? or hit one target then a wall? thats pretty much like vaynes condem but replace wall with another target to stun them for his overall kit his Q seems way out of place?

his Q should be something more defensive or able to hit both enemies and allies (considering his entire kit revolves around enemies and allies are effected by the stuff -the ult -the portal -allies get heals enemies get gold from relics

meanwhile the Q is just there

If you can't see how R can't be used to single handedly turn a fight around I don't know what to tell you.

This.

And OP, to answer your 'What is he supposed to be' question: He's a support. An actual support. Not a tank, not a mage, a support. You'll most likely build support items on him, like SS, Talisman and anything your team needs.

It can be a hard concept seeing as a lot of supports you see nowadays are tanks or mages.

Or single handedly stop your carry from getting fed

The original Starcraft had a Protoss unit. It was one of my favorites in the game. It was called the Arbiter. It had two abilities. One was called Recall, the other Stasis Field.

Recall was the best ability ever. You could gather ground troops in your base and then instantly transport all of them to the location of your arbiter. That was a nice base you had.

Stasis Field hit an AOE and trapped all units affected (friend or foe) in Stasis. They could not be attacked. They could not move. They could not attack. This was the most useless ability ever.

Until it wasn't. The stasis had a decent duration (longer than Bard's), so it allowed you to put a fight on hold for a few seconds until more of your forces could arrive. Or you could stasis the overwhelming enemy force and allow a few of yours to cut and run, joining up with a larger force for victory another day. Just cuz everyone wins doesn't mean someone doesn't lose.

I didn't realize Stasis Field's true power until my substantial army was engaged in a fight with the enemy, and I was winning. Suddenly, I hear "Nuclear Launch Detected."

I protected many of his units, bu I also protected many mine and ended up winning the fight and the war.

Give the ult a chance to prove if it's useful or not. OP or UP.

If Riot changes Bard's E I will be okay with him.

His E is really odd, but a very interesting concept; its mobility creep, but its done in such a way that its.... not mobility creep (given that EVERYONE can cross through the portals)

Doesn't really work as an escape honestly, since the enemy can just walk right through the portal after you, seems like it would be more of an engage tool than anything.

Lumus Avatar1 votes

Or an escape to waiting allies who engage on the enemy when he follows you.

LoLKiru1 votes

Yeah, should've edited my comment, thats really the only time it actually works as an escape, when you have allies there to back you up (which happens sometimes, and then doesn't happen sometimes even in LCS games)

Lumus Avatar1 votes

It'd probably be pretty borked if he had so many escape tools: a stun, a stasis field, AND a "I can walk through ANY wall on the map" spell. This limitation (de-limiter?) makes it important for Bard to choose when and where to use the portal.

Out of the jungle path onto a friendly turret. Into a team fight. Out to allies. or Just reposition at the risk of the enemies following.

Except in a 1v1 or 2v1 where when the enemy follows you can stun them with your Q(cosmic binding) by hitting them and the wall your portal is on or just hit both of the enemies chasing you. Based on the video of the ability in the release announcement, I'd estimate at max level the stun is an approximate three seconds. stun them and walk away if they try to follow you.

That is not quite true. Enemies travel slower in it, and stuns can still be used on the people inside of it but they will only proc upon the champion leaving the tunnel. So he can ultimate them inside of his magical journey making it hard to chase him, or stun them and then ultimate them. With his movespeed he is very hard to catch. Played against him on the PBE.

You mean the most inovative part of his kit?

TehNACHO1 votes

You may have had a point on the second half of 2 if not for the fact that Zhonyas exist.

Straight up heals are dumb if poorly implemented. Shrines are also a billion times more useful given that Bard will probably leave the laner extremely quickly after doing his job.

Utility/CDR Tank imo. Think Blitzcrank, a bruiser turned support. AP and Tank itemizations are both still options for him, sure, but the main reason you bring Blitzcrank into the support role is for his utility (read, his hooks). You want to maximize on that, generally by first maxing out CDR and then complementing that with more utility. Tankiness and AP for support Blitzcrank at that point is either entirely reactionary or requires you to be sufficiently fed. Bard may follow a similar path, given how utility like his abilities are.

Bard ult is like a targeted Naga Siren ult.

Combined with Faceless Voids ult.

OP/UP posts are probably best left for Live, and maybe not even then.

TBH Bard's kit has so much shit that we've never seen in any form that it's impossible to say just how good he's going to be until he's out there. We may still be seeing LCS players coming up with new tricks for him years in the future.

Anomander1 votes

We don't even know his base numbers or scaling. Till we do we can't say if he will be under or over powered. His kit could go either way.

If his base numbers scale with AP (like every other support) itd be MUCH more effective to see a bard mid because he has sustain that he can drop right at the mid turret, he has to raom for chimes and being mid covers both red and blue of of the jungle quite well

has a built in zhonyas pizza as an ult

has a portal to transport him places (for engages and such) and his Q is a stun

sounds like a badass mid to me

My prediction. He'll be OP as hell with coordinated teams that can use his utility and team-wide mobility to it's utmost. He'll be crap in solo queue where everyone wants to do their own thing and coordination happens mostly incidentally.
