@Riot: If you want Jarvan to be a competitive pick, make this change.

Enemy units inside of R: Cataclysm are grounded.

There's no need to buff him until he's just another generic ball of stats. J4 isn't played because he's either a ball of stats or a CC bot, and his CC, including ult, is too telegraphed to be reliable vs the countless get-out-of-jail-free cards you've given champions throughout the years.

Its the same problem as Aatrox, without the sustain to make it even harder to balance. Only difference is that J4 has an easy fix to his issues that's both thematic and more satisfying for anyone playing the champion.

I'd like to see it tested in the PBE. To see if it is good or not. But nice suggestion either way! As a Shyvana player, I want my J4 to be stronk <3

Considering its an ult, I doubt it would be too strong, and there are far more balance levers you can adjust on ults since CD/damage adjustments don't break the flow of a champion there.

If he's too weak, you can always put it on his W, affecting anyone that grants him a shield bonus.

Exactly, drop the damage a bit would be a start, hell take the duration down 1 tick, anything is possible.

I feel like adding that to his ultimate would cause chaining CC to be WAY too easy. This would mean that if you saw Jarvan get picked in a Draft Pick game, you would be hurting yourself by picking nearly any champion with dashes, since they would be useless as soon as Jarvan ulted. Really, if the Jarvan lands a good ult at all, it pretty much means the entire enemy team is dead if the Jarvan's team is there, because they can't even move to attack.

While I disagree with OP...

you would be hurting yourself by picking nearly any champion with dashes

That's kind of how some immobile champions feel against mobile ones. Just reversed.

What's that? You mean a reason to discourage extremely safe champions in competitive? Its almost like this is exactly what people want!

There's always disengage, champions like Sion, etc.

But they can move, as of right now champions that get picked alot have in their kits an escape. Add the grounded effect and his ult is actually useful again, even if the J4 dies the enemy champ(s) are in a really bad spot.

People will say it's op, I say if you see a J4 on the opposite team then team fight placement will be a viable strategy.

just adding a grounded debuff to his ult would be a bit extreme.

what they could do is make it impossible for movement abilities to go over the wall, but give the thing the 3 hitpoint mechanic of yoricks new w. so basically no matter who you are, you wont immediately get out of the circle, but your team can help you break it quickly for you to bail.

As an ult, it'd probably need to be higher than 3, or it'd be picked apart near-instantly without even considering the ADC or any other attackspeed champions that there could potentially be in the game.

Adding the ally pass-through that Yorick's new W has would be a welcome change, though.

near isntant is exactly the right word. as opposed to enemies just instantly getting out. its still an improvement.

the idea is basically to make it fair game and give it a bit more counterplay for champions with low mobility, while not having it useless against 80% of the champion pool who can dash out of it.

i think its the best conpromise to have the wall itself impassible like azirs wall (movement within the circle is still possible), but have the walls be destructable in a couple of hits so it takes like half a second to 1 second with immediate reaction from a team, and about 2 seconds when youre on your own.

it still doesnt have to be the entire wall that gets destroyed. jarvans wall could be seperated into 4 segments which each could get destroyed, so it doesnt collapse the entire wall.

Please tell me how there is literally supposed to be any counterplay to that

WoonStruck2 votes

Same way as there was counterplay to it before there were hundreds of get-out-of-jail-free cards available.

It would simply be doing what it was intended to do. Currently, Anivia's ult has more teamfight presence than J4's when considering mobility alone.

Why not just make his ult autokill anyone inside of it?

Ozag the Mighty1 votes

Well the description of the ult is IMPASSIBLE terrain but by their logic impassible means any juke, dash or jump can get out

CppL1 votes

No ,that would be op as fuck ,wich 0 counterplay.

WoonStruck1 votes

In what way?

The same way that there's 0 counterplay to mobility unless you happen to be a champ that can prevent dashes, of which there are 8 in this game; six of which do not stop dashes attached to auto attacks.

Its about time the playing field is leveled.

I agree but make allies (including J4) trapped on his ult being grounded as well.
