Yorick completely fails to deliver on his fantasy.

What we were promised was a necromancer, minion-focused champion.

What we got was Nasus-lite with minions attached. Past laning phase, his minions become completely negligible and the majority of his damage is his Q with Triforce procs. His ghoul count doesn't scale up beyond 4 and the ghouls themselves are too unreliable; if you miss E then they're completely worthless.

W has an annoying bug with auto resets. Playing Darius against him, there was an irritating common-ness in how many times auto->W reset would result in the W not hitting, but the animation repeating. Too many times I've had to flash to avoid death because the W wouldn't register and I couldn't wait for it to time out. Personally, I don't find this ability very interesting; it feels out of place with his theme and the visuals don't make much sense.

His E looks and feels like a terrible ability. Visually, it doesn't even cover the area of its indicator and it disappears instantly. For being absolutely vital to his sticking potential for him and his ghouls, and to make W easier to land, it's very low impact.

Maiden is objectively horrible at its intended function of pressuring multiple lanes. Because it draws tower aggro as a pet and not as a champion and isn't smart enough to juggle aggro (and you can't control it), it will end up tanking the tower itself and usually dying before it can take anything on its own. The better play is almost always saving it for duels and teamfights as an extra source of damage and another health bar.

Yorick also has the unfortunate problem of being binary to an extreme degree. Either he is a brick wall in lane and pushes endlessly, or he gets stomped completely and remains useless for the game. I attribute this to the fact that he does not scale whatsoever; there is no real power-spike other than Trinity Force's sheen damage. Nothing about his kit inherently scales; he is a champion that's just 'consistent,' for lack of better wording. I believe he should be changed to have a weaker early game, but a very potent late game.

I suggest the following changes:

  • Ghouls now start at 3 and scale up to 8.
  • Ghoul charges are stored with Yorick rather than remaining stationary on the ground. Yorick can now ping how many charges he's at.
  • Ghouls are harder to kill with AAs but easier to take down with AoE.
  • Q damage lowered, but landing Q redirects his ghouls.
  • Maiden's ghoul summons are now independent from Yorick's ghoul count; meaning that he can have up to 12 out on the field.
  • Maiden is now considered a champion for tower aggro priority.
  • Maiden's damage slightly lowered, but gains a % bonus against minions and turrets.

The changes for E I had in mind would be much too large to be reasonable, so I will have to accept this ability won't have any major changes.

Discuss.

Nah, doesn't sound like it's necessary.

He's fine where he is.

He is a worse Nasus in almost every fashion; the only advantage he has is a marginally stronger early game.

People on Gameplay seem to have the idea that because champions or items share similar effects or gameplay, that they're mirror images of another champion or item. That's incorrect.

The idea of Yorick is "keep them in range to whittle them down". That was at the core of his old kit, but was implemented roughly. He isolates targets and forces them to fight, but does it differently than, say, Trundle or Nasus. Just because he has a Basic Attack reset on his Q doesn't make him the same. Does it stack? No. Does his AoE have a DoT attached? No. Does it shred armour? No, but it does a nice %Current HP damage.

He's a top lane bruiser that forces enemies to duel him. Congrats, there are 10 other champions that do that. Should they all be reworked so they have absolutely no correlation to Nasus?

I consider him a worse Nasus because he has the same goal as Nasus; strong splitpushing presence. That is the key purpose of his existence currently. You can argue semantics and list off their abilities all you want; that's not the point I'm making. They have the same niche and they aren't different enough, which is pretty stupid, considering Yorick's theme was supposed to be the minion guy, and yet they factor almost nothing into his late game DPS.

Yorick is worse at splitting than Nasus once Nasus gets Sheen and ~150 stacks, and past lane phase, he's worse at everything else, too. There is no real reason to pick Yorick over Nasus other than you like Yorick better.

Yorick's ghouls are entirely worthless in their current state. They become negligible after the enemy buys their first item.

He isolates targets and forces them to fight, but does it differently than, say, Trundle or Nasus.

He slows them and he makes terrain. That's pretty much exactly what Trundle and Nasus do; pelt you with their utility spell every time it's off cooldown, and then beat you with their auto resets and Sheen procs.

For one, Nasus doesn't make terrain. Nitpicking, yes, but I need to point that out. Strong splitpushing due to Triforce procs? So Irelia, Vi, and Corki are the same as Nasus, then.

Yorick's niche is to be a splitpusher that focuses on auto-attack modifiers. Yasuo, Tryndamere, and Master Yi focus on Crit and Attack Speed to split push, so should they all be reworked because their game focus is too similar?

Big Lincoln1 votes

Master Yi builds on-hits. Tryndamere and Yasuo have distinct niches from each other, which is I think something you aren't getting because you want to be contrarian for the sake of it. Yasuo has a kit that makes him vastly better at teamfighting than Tryndamere, but Tryndamere will absolutely destroy most champions in a duel. They have distinctly different functions and mechanics.

Yorick does not have anything that actually makes him different than Nasus in practice. This is what I am saying to you; he has no niche that is not already occupied by Nasus, because the things he DOES have that separate him take a backseat to his less interesting mechanics, and thus give him no unique purpose to be played in his current form.

Yorick's niche is to be a splitpusher that focuses on auto-attack modifiers.

And I want him to be focused around his minions. If his entire theme and character is that he has those summons, then why are they completely secondary to him mashing Q on your face instead of having a kit focused around making his minions do the work for him?

So Irelia, Vi, and Corki are the same as Nasus, then.

Are you baiting me?

No, I'm attempting to use your faulty logic to further my point. Nasus does not have terrain. Nasus has a targeted slow, but it's short range. Nasus's Q stacks, but has less base damage and a poorer AD scaling.

You're trying to oversimplify a champion based on your perception of them. The only thing Yorick has that makes him anywhere similar to Nasus, even in gameplay, is his Q that empowers the Basic Attack and resets the basic attack timer. That's it.

Other than that, you're trying to shape the discussion to where you're always right. You try noting something about Yorick's kit that is distantly related to Nasus's Q and you say that he's exactly the same, so I try the same thing and you say I'm "not getting it". So I point out that other champions have similar playstyles, and you attempt to refute it and say "no, your point is bad, because it's not the point I made, which is GREAT", when you're misguided as fuck.

To end this, you're wrong. Yorick's theme and playstyle are very separate from Nasus's theme and gameplay. If you try to refute this in any way, then you're wrong and wasting your time.

Good bye.

Edit: What -you- want a champion to be isn't going to be what the developers want a champion to be. Stop whining and go play Malzahar if you want to have pets.

Other than that, you're trying to shape the discussion to where you're always right.

You mean like how you suddenly exclude Trundle after bringing him up to make it seem like I said Nasus creates terrain, so that you can feel correct? Or that when I say Yorick and Nasus play too similarly and occupy the same niche, you bring up Irelia, Vi and Corki only because they all build Triforce and ignoring their roles as champions, and then saying that I'm wrong no matter what.

Good bye.

The only thing I want is for Ghouls to target whoever I hit with Q, Maiden too.

I think having the ghouls scale up to eight would be rather pointless considering how many graves you need to make (and minion waves are like 6-7, idk). Plus with how quickly other people waveclear compared to Yorick m, he couldn't even get the amount he wants (it's honestly tilting late game when I want to farm up ghouls but my team clears the wave before I can get a second grave).

I would like for his and his Maiden to have separate ghoul counts in lane, but then it'd get awkward when he's trying to control them to one target.

I agree that how his Maiden draws aggro is dumb. But it shouldn't be as a champion since this would allow Yorick to tower dive without taking a single tower shot. The I'd just like it if the Maiden wasn't the first damn target to the tower. Like have cannon minions be higher priority at least!

And let the Maiden live after Yorick dies. It's annoying when it dies after I'm dead.

Big Lincoln1 votes

Ghouls stack up a lot faster later on , but you're right that they are very time consuming to farm. This change sort of alleviates that by letting him take stacks with him; so he can farm the jungle or a side lane and then rejoin his team. I would have preferred they be easier to summon in clusters instead of one-by-one, but it is what it is.

Minionmancers are simply never going to truly fulfill their intended fantasy because we can't directly control other units in this game. This isn't like DotA where we're able to manage to multiple units and give them specific commands.

Big Lincoln1 votes

I think they can work despite League's simplicity by offering more means to guide them and empower them to last longer.

Having his Q draw ghoul aggro to that target (without the jump) or having his ghouls take less damage from targets debuffed by E would be some changes that could accomplish that.

Existential Bard1 votes

I feel that he should be able to have more ghouls has the game goes on, but their power is capped at a threshold of damage and health to prevent a complete monster.

Instead of letting him take stacks with him which would be over powered in my opinion, since it would lack counter play, maybe his passive could be lower so he isn't so reliant on hitting Qs to stack the graves. Lowering his passive to every 4 minions would be nice or making it so that both his Q and E can create graves on last hitting would be nice. Instead of Q healing him, maybe minions can be the source of his sustain.

A buff to E that would be nice is to make it apply grievous wounds and debuff the targets damage or armor/ resistances. The grievous wounds debuff in particular would help go along with his theme.

I do feel the maiden needs more of an ability to push, but I don't think the separate ghoul count would be very balanced if yorick and maiden are in the same lane. Maybe allow maiden to deal more damage to turrets and have more resistances when when yorick/ no allied champions are around. When yorick is around she deals less damage to enemy structures, but more damage to enemies.
