Why are we bringing Warlord's Bloodlust back? (7.24)

Azadethe··11 votes·1,216 views

I know people are focused on Sona changes and the "lack of Zoe nerfs," but I noticed something else in 7.24 which should arguably be talked about more:

Fleet Footwork (P1)

[New Effect] "Healing is increased by 40% of your critical damage modifier when triggered by a critical hit." Heal changed from [5-50] to [3-60] AD increased from .1 to .3 AP increased from .2 to .4

Now, this doesn't work EXACTLY like Warlord's Bloodlust:

Moving or attacking makes an attack Kircheis Shard item Energized. Energized attacks heals for 5% - 40% (based on level) AD and grants 30% movement speed for 0.75 seconds. If the Energized attack critically strikes, it instead heals for 5% - 40% (based on level) AD × (2 + bonus critical strike damage).

But.... let's work through both of them. Suppose an adc has 100% Crit, and 350 AD with a 225% Crit damage modifier.

Fleet footwork heal: 255 (and it gives a 1 sec move speed boost)

Warlord's Bloodlust: 315.

They're basically going to be the same Mastery/Rune, except Fleet Footwork also acts as an insane gap closer, and Fleet Footwork can work on AP builds too (although there aren't too many AP champs who actually find enough in Precision to take the tree.

My concern is this: I thought we were getting away from the free sustain meta? Warlord's Bloodlust is why adc's were such a subject of contention in Season 7; An adc could build full crit + lethality, and completely ignore building sustain. It's why adcs could go 20/1/18 without a single life steal item. It's why Jinx was unstoppable if she got an early 2/0 score.

And you're bringing it back in an environment with MUCH MORE POTENT HEALING.

An adc can literally go: Fleet Footwork + Legend: Bloodlines + Ravenous Hunger + Taste of Blood and have 23% Life steal + a 255 energized heal to top it off.

On our 350 AD adc (which is conservative today with 400+ AD), we would heal 105 + 255 + 181 = At LEAST 541 Energized heals on an Adc (more because this doesn't take into account any damage bonuses any specific adc has, like Jhin's AD scaling from Crit/Attack speed, Cait's Headshot, Vayne's Ult, Janna's E, etc.)

That doesn't include the heals Ravenous hunger does in between Energized attacks or the 8% from Bloodlines. It also doesn't include Triumph, which will heal 12% every time you kill someone in between.

In other words, soon Adcs are going to self heal for more than most Namis heal for, and faster, more reliable than they ever have before.

And I don't really see a use for Fleet Footwork for most mages. Given how quick Energized attacks work when auto attacking vs when just using the movement part of it, there's VERY few mages I see actually using this mechanism. Maybe Kayle? Teemo? Azir? This change seems specifically aimed at auto attacking AD's and champs we already consider broken when played right.

I thought Ravenous Hunger was Riot's substitute for Warlord's to allow mages to equally benefit. I was wrong. They want it back on adc's PLUS Ravenous Hunger.

Get ready for Jinxes and Vaynes and Tristanas who cannot die.

The heal still isn't going to be that great.

Average AD (on a DPS champion) is ~200, 30% of that is 60. Add in another 60 at 18 for 120. Crit modifier brings it to 168 when it crits. Assuming a 70% crit rate, that averages out to 153.6 health every activation at level 18, full build. Rounded up to 155, because AD is a bit above 200.

It takes 10 autos, I believe (no matter what items you buy) to get an attack fully energized, and an 11th to activate it. Assuming the ADC isn't moving, that means you average out to 14.1 HP per auto from this mastery alone, at level 18, at full build. Moving, it'll take about 8 to activate it. Meaning you get an average of 19.4 HP per auto.

Yeah, not that much, to be honest. It's clearly more meant for the MS boost, with the healing increased to decent amounts for crit builders (who almost always have less AD than someone that just buys AD, with the exception of Jhin and anyone that buys 5 infinity edges).

Learn actual stats before trying to misportray stats.

I'm just going to use Jinx as an example: build: item 3031 item 3036 item 3094 item 3006 item 3142 item 3085

That's 70 + 40 + 0 + 0 + 55 = 165 Bonus AD. That's 272 AD. 80% Crit 2.25, 20 Lethality. Lord Dominik's Scaling, 27.2 Bonus AD on Fishbones. In other words 300 AD affected by up to 20% additional damage, near full Armor penetration, and healing :

54 from Life steal, 180 from Fleet, 95 from Taste of blood. And Jinx can renew the charge in about 4 attacks, because she's MOVING. it takes 9 attacks when standing still to Energize. It takes about 4 when moving, because movement charges per 30 units moved (you do far more than that in combat).

And jinx is an adc who doesn't have actual AD scaling.

Jhin with 690+ AD can heal about half his HP.

Janna can boost Jhin up to 900+ AD, at which point Fleet heals him: 360 by itself + scaled up Taste, plus 120 just from Bloodlines.

DuskDaUmbreon6 votes

... What Jinx would EVER buy a goddamned Youmuu's???

Don't try to claim I'm misusing stats when you have her with an item she will never have.

Man relax, people that never played ADC are talking shit about things they don't know, its funny how he put Yomuus there, everyone that ever played some adc knows that Yomuus on Jinx is wasted gold and don't even get me started on how awful Fleet Footwork is compared to Warlords, which was a decent mastery but i can honestly say that for every 1 time i survived cause of Warlords i got 20 times instakilled where my sustain didn't mean shit cause i got stunned or bursted 100-0,he's just salty cause for some reason he thinks that the Precision tree should also be for mages, you dont see any ADC main yelling how Comet or Phase rush is not viable on adcs

Eyo, tell Jhin that Comet doesn't work. It's, unfortunately, his best keystone atm.

If Hunger is the one for spellvamp, what ADC uses it? Also it's still less effective on minions, not mention the heal and move speed have a .25 delay which makes it feel clunky.

Hunter is all abilities (1/3 effectiveness for aoes) For an adc, hunger is 15% Life steal when full charged. it's basically a built in Death's Dance/Hextech Gunblade. Works on anything that counts as an Ability, not just "Spells."

And a lot of adc abilities have been modified to count as abilities. MF's Passive is now an ability, as is Ez's Q. I can actually proc a sheen on MF just by using 2 auto attacks (I have a support build where I build Iceborne; it procs on second autos). Vayne's Q is an ability. Jinx's Q counts, as does her W. Cait's headshot counts. So does her Q and ult. Etc.

Kaìju1 votes

I need to test all this shit wtf. I only play Ashe and she gets nothing her fucking Q doesn't count as a spell.

JoeMG2 votes

I don't know why this was done. Like ADCs didn't have enough going for them as it is :/

EcchiOtakuTM2 votes

You forgot to include statikk shiv also heals with it. Quite a moderate amount esp on winions.

Azadethe2 votes

I put the Youmuu's in because in the post life steal meta, a lot of adcs are using either Duskblade or Youmuu's and Jinx gains almost no actual use out of a Duskblade's passive. In Season 7, Youmuu's adc was actually quite common, especially for pre combat engages. In Season 7, about the only adcs that picked up a Duskblade was MF and Jungle Ezreal.

The ultimate point I'm trying to make is, with this change to Fleet Footwork, there's no need for a life steal item anymore. You have 3 very potent life sustains in Precision alone for an adc: Tier 1(Fleet Footwork), Tier 2 (Triumph), and Tier 3 (Legend: Bloodlines) And they are ALL more powerful than their old versions when put on an adc (Fleet adds move speed, Triumph is 7% more missing HP heal on kill, and Bloodlines is 6% more life steal than was offered)

People rage about adcs more than any other role; This is WHY. Adc has always had the same crit mechanics. What changed was they now have to devote less item space to sustain, and instead can maximize damage.

I noticed it already has minimal healing early game, especially when used on minions. And you lose out on the damage the other two runes give you. I think it's more supposed to be designed to work during extended fights, where you'll want to proc the energized attack to heal and reposition.

Side note, I've recently tried it on Supports, as it gives them free sustain that then helps them trade in lane more often. Not necessarily amazing, but something worth experimenting with, considering the ups and downs.

Warlord's was always minimal early game too. The difference is in scaling late, coupled with all this other insane sustain. The Crit multiplier addition and on hit charging makes it heal 3 times as often on an adc than on a support or any other role. Vayne and Trist and Jinxes who ran it literally had 30/0 games if they managed to get pre 6 kills. And now they have even more (especially Vayne and Jinx, who already have insane engage move speed, and Tristana because she best utilizes a RFC). These adc's don't need Press the Attack, as they already scale high. Heals on the other hand let them build full Crit PLUS about 40 or so Lethality, which makes all but tanks have negative Armor. Adcs are basically going to do 1350 crits as True damage and heal 50% hp per tap.

In what world does a marksman have both 100% crit chance and 350 AD? Hint: they dont.

Obviously fleet footwork was one of the worst masteries, anyone who should be using it just takes PTA or another path.

Your scenerio is highly HIGHLY exaggerated, this isnt gonna be what breaks the meta, not when PTA exist.

Rapid fire cannon+statik is a whole other story tho.

Passing on armor pen/defensive item/life steal for 100% crit. Not only does nobody does this because you need armor pen or a defensive item to deal with tanks, but even with this made up build you STILL didnt reach 350 AD.

So yea, you're wrong, but it's not your fault you obviously dont play adc so it's easy to get sucked into the circlejerk.

Are you serious? Don't tell me you're actually considering this to even compare to Press the Attack on any ADC other than Jhin, and even then it's sub-optimal on him because of his Attack Speed situation. It's much better for him to go Sorcery or Domination for Comet/Aery or Electrocute, respectively.

Think about it this way:

"Hey, would you rather have 12% extra damage for your entire team because you landed four autos, or would you rather have a miniscule heal that you have to build up through constantly moving and attacking?"

It is not and has never been miniscule when constructed this way, and the cooldown cap is being reduced from 10 sec to 6 seconds too. A well orbing Jhin will heal half his HP every 6 sec and have 1 sec 30% move speed boost.

He can get his damage boosts from Coup de gras.

You mean that damage boost he was already running because you go Precision secondary for Triumph and Coup De Gras along with the AD and bonuses from the other trees? You're over hyping this in a big way, and it's evident you don't play ADC.

If you're talking about your last MF game, you had no boots, no sightstone, built full AD without attack speed/crit apart from reaver AND you had gathering storm on a 51 minutes games.

Calling yourself a support is like calling full AP lux a support.

lulz. That's the whole point of an MF or Lux support. When have you ever seen a Annie Brand Fiddlesticks Lux Zyra Ever not build AP as support. Oh Right...... they do.....

The whole point of MF support is E spam because it's a powerful slow and a Spellthief proc. On top of that, her purpose is to provide Grievous wounds when normal adcs don't. and to provide stacks of Black Cleaver. I also add in an Iceborne and Morellonomicon. when needed, because as support, MF does well with them and her passive procs Iceborne, which makes it oppressive.

The reason that game took 51 minutes was simply because I had to carry 3 losers. It was effectively me and Veigar vs the other team. The rest died in 2 sec every engagement, especially the Ashe who was 40 cs behind in lane (and no; I wasn't stealing CS, was zoning the other team with both pokes/autos and E, and STILL she didn't capture cs).

If you checked build path for the majority of the game I did indeed have boots, but MF really doesnt need them when she's good. At some point after full build I sold them because the other team had too many tanks and I needed to up the ante on Garen etc and spike up my damage so that it was a sealed game. My Ult got up to 6700 damage and I had 40% penetration and 24% Armor reduction on it.

MF also doesn't NEED crit if she has AD. Her Q crits for her if you you use it correctly.

P.S. Hybrid MF has a 8400 damage ult. RIP.

But you get that even so with a Xayah. Jhin easily gets 690 on Full crit, and his bullet pause isn't enough to really say he is any worse than any other AD at orbing. With Janna Jhin easily has over 900 AD. His 4th bullet can 1 shot.

Caitlyn I can pull off 80% Crit and deal 3700 crits. Calculate the self heal off that.

No adc NO one will seriously copy your build, adc needs many stats to come online and get to late game status: Attack speed. Damage. Crit chance. Armor pen. Life steal.

That's not even including defensive items. Yea, in test lab enviorment on paper you can say "wow i have 380 AD, this is gonna be OP"

Then you put it into an actual game and you : -cant kite because you dont have shoes. -You cant deal with tanks because you have no armor pen and attack speed. -You cant deal with divers or juggernauts because you have no movespeed, life steal and armor pen.

No matter how you try to twist it, adc wont get anymore than around 300 AD realisticly in 99% of the situations. Adding outside sources like janna shield is stupid, not every game has janna and her shield isnt perma damage boost, so that's that.

Jhin is a unique case he needs higher AD because his attack speed is capped AND he has to reload, that's enough to warrant higher stats.

What you're essentialy arguing about now is like i'll say " hey i bought rabbadon and 5 luden's echo i have over 800 AP this is OP" when this thing would never happen.

What are you even talking about?

90% of adcs no longer build Life steal. My build was a Support MF build. I had boots until i didn't need them, and support MF doesn't build like ADC. That's the whole point! She complements the Adc and in many cases does MORE DAMAGE.

My build did have damage, Crit, and Armor Pen. What do you think Mortal Reminder/Black Cleaver is?

Attack speed is something My build didn't have, but even without it, MF has a 1.31 attack speed. She attacks fine, and most of her damage comes from her Ult anyways. I had 1300 damage Love taps, btw.

And yes. In Season 7, Adcs built full crit with 1-2 lethality items, because of Warlord's. It's not like friggin Crit/Attack speed/Move speed aren't the exact same items: Statik Shiv, RFC, and Runaan's are basically the same exact item with a different passive, and cover all 3. What's different is who builds which 2 of those items; Trist builds Shiv + RFC. Jinx builds Runaan's + RFC. etc.

MF and Lucian began building Duskblades and Youmuu's because they outdps crit builds on caster champs.

Reload really doesnt affect Jhin that much, which is why he's such an easy champ to pick up and just pwn with. Just learn to Orb and you're good.

I suspect you obviously didn't play adc in Season 7, or you'd know 90% of games adcs didn't build a single life steal item.

Please just stop you are just flat out wrong. Check my stats i've been playing adc since season 3 i think i know what im talking about, a bit more than you by the way you present things. Lethality adc only became popular when lethality was introduced, and it was only select few who make use of lethality like jhin, varus and MF, the rest were in the gutter. Crit builds were shit and everyone knew it, which is what led to IE and zeal items to being buffed to their current state, which shifted the meta to RFC+Statik shiv rush we have today.

If you honestly and truly believe warlords replaced life steal items at any point, you are just flat out wrong. So please, stop trying to educate me on something you clearly dont know about, you suggest building yom' on jinx...

Sorry, but I duo'd a Lethality Lucian (technically 2) in Season 7, so it wasn't just Jhin, Varus, MF. Furthermore, why would any adc differentiate build unless they have some mechanic which scales from crit vs don't? Jhin Scales Crit as does Xayah. Other than that, all adcs pretty much have free reign to choose between the two. Lucian had a short period where he was running Essence Reaver and still sometimes does, but that was before it was an item that only restores mana on crits.

Also, where did I ever say that Lethality was ALWAYS how they built? I said that it was picked up with Warlord's, which guess what? CAME OUT AT THE SAME TIME.

Final Incarnation of Warrior's Bloodlust: March 22 2017 was when Crit became part of the healing equation, and made it strong. Lethality was added January 26, 2017.

2 Months difference.

Pre Final Incarnation Warlord's, players went Crit + Life steal. Most got Bloodthirsters right after IE. Adcs who scale better to on hit effects bought Blade of the Ruined King. Now, Adc's don't even buy those items. They just go pure crit. And some pick up Lethality.

I've been around since Season 4 Myself, and I'm also Plat III. I Support/Jungle Main, but I've also had stints of maining Jinx, Sivir, MF, Ashe, Tristana, Cait. My Duos are generally Draven, Tristana, Lucian.

Notice how i said champions, LIKE jhin, MF and varus, not ONLY. Jhin scales with crit but has a lot of damage built into long range abilities like his W, Q (chained over minions) and his ult. He also gets guranteed crit which with lethality makes it extra hurtful, aswell as having his style being on hit and run which suits better for lethality and not attackspeed + crit. Varus is a perfect example, back when lethality was strong he used to build lethality for his strong poke, almost all utility items, after lethality was nerfed he changed to on hit which is where he is at now, lethality is still valid on him, but you have a choice you can go both ways. Lethality wasnt used by carries because of warlords, lethality was CLEARLY used by carries when it was just released and it was too strong, having quinn, lucian, jhin MF (and others!) abuse it, it had nothing to do with warlords, seeing as after it was nerfed crit builds were back to being the main build path to most carries.

Enough of this, lets talk about your 2nd point which is the easiest to prove - "ADC DONT BUILD LIFE STEAL ANYMORE!"

90% of adcs no longer build Life steal.

No, that is wrong, they do, they just dont rush it, dude, just check your match histroy, i did it for you - EVERY GAME, BOTH(!) Carries bought either blood thirster, or botrk. EVERY GAME.

How can you say carries DONT build life steal when literally in EVERY game in YOUR match history both carries would have life steal in their build.

warlords/the new rune - is NOT a replacement for sustained life steal, a burst of health is not the same as a sustain stream of health you get from fighting, no matter how you try to manipulate and twist the facts, the rune will not be powerfull enough to replace life steal items, and it's far from being OP.

Also i guess this is your smurf? (i guess) since you are silver 3, not plat, but w/e, you are wrong regardless

Warlord's is not the only healing they get...... and that's the point. Legend : Bloodlines = 8 % life Steal. that's 6% more than old Masteries. (Same tree) Triumph = 12% missing on kill. (old was 5%) On Top of that, they can Ravenous Hunger or Taste of Blood for some more. Sustain is everywhere in the new runes.

JackMcSnipeyz2 votes

Bloodlines needs to be stacked. Triumph is after kill, it doesnt help you sustain during a fight unless you chain kills which already means you are rolling over the enemy. Ravenous hunger also needs to be stacked, and it's sustain on abilities, which most marksman dont use as much to make this replace life steal.

Yes, it helps, but again - IT ISNT A REPLACEMENT FOR LIFE STEAL, i already proved you are wrong, marksman still need, and do - build life steal.
