The logic behind Blitz's new W - Hope it clears some things up for people!

So old blitz W was very "unhealthy. You basically had a consistent movement speed and attack speed steroid that made it easy to kite, land hooks, catch up to anyone, run away, and push towers decently quick.

New blitz W has greater logic behind it with better risks and rewards:

  • You get more movement speed on cast essentially making it a "burst" of speed that decays over time which makes it fair both ways for catching up to land the hook and not just pounding after the enemy
  • The decay in the speed over 5 seconds is very fair to say you're not constantly running like a madman avoiding everything and making it easy to knock-up a champion and giving no options for the enemy to run
  • The slow at the end is more of a "Return for the favor" kind of thing where you get slowed because of your movement speed increase trying to land a hook or knocking up someone, making it a risk to use and logically is kind of like a "burnout" after using it

All in all, its more of a risk to use his W now as you need have proper positioning and right playing style to get him right instead of instant W chase into hook/knock-up.

Hope this clears things up :D

Old Blitzcrank was strong in solo-que where there was limited ward sweeping and controlled vision denial by teams, since he made picks over walls and could do so even when significantly behind in lane phase. He saw the rare LCS play, which showed he was technically balanced for the best players.

This nerf doesn't change his strengths, and only slightly nerfs his roaming and escape potential. It's a decent nerf, and as a Blitz fan I'm okay with it, since I played him for so long with the old W which had the same effect of reducing his movement speed after his W ran off.

I doubt the nerf will hit him too hard, but it might give him a stronger engage since the initial movespeed boost is much stronger, while making retaliating against a missed hook engage much more painful.
