Is There A Way To Provide Incentive For Casuals To Stay In Normal Mode?

There really needs to be some reward or motivation for people to actually use Normal mode. Many players don't see a reason to play anything except ranked because it's the only mode where you can gain anything (LP, Ranks, etc). The problem is a lot of people don't take ranked seriously, they are only playing the game to have a good time and really don't care about anyone else on their team. Much of this issue would be alleviated if Normal mode had a lot more incentive for casual players.

So, you say, they're the same rank as you so it shouldn't matter that they are just a casual? That's not true entirely. Casual players are far more likely to pick a champion they've not practiced if ever even played at all. They're also usually more mechanically inept and make more mistakes than someone of the same rank who is playing seriously. A lot of people who are casuals also have tendencies to troll by building items you'd normally never see on their champion. These players don't care win or loss and mostly are just messing around, though I'm not saying they're trying to lose as most players want to win.

This group of players doesn't belong in ranked, they don't even care about ranked. The only reason they're in ranked is simply that there's no reason NOT to be in ranked. There's nothing to gain out of playing Normal matches. Something has to be done about this. Two different crowds shouldn't be forced to live with each other just because one doesn't have a reason to play the mode designed for them.

What would I suggest be done about this?

Maybe something like this:

  1. Add a point system to Normal matches. (You only gain points when you win, and you never lose them during the season.)

  2. Players with the most points at the end of the season earn unique rewards, similar to the skins earned by achieving Gold or higher.

  3. At the end of the season, open a shop where players can purchase various special items using the points they've earned from Normal matches.

  4. Reset players points at the end of every ranked season.

A system such as this would provide good reward for casual players and give them much less reasons to care about spending their days loafing around in ranked.

What if champion capsules you get from norms have the chance to drop lewd fanart of different champions

I agree, there should be higher blue essence gains for Normals

I don't think that in itself would deter the problem, I believe competitive nature is a trigger to get people hooked, especially in League of Legends. Since there is no reason to try hard in Normal mode it doesn't feel satisfying, even when you win. This makes people look at the Ranked mode and start feeling like they'd be better rewarded there instead.

Basically in theory, the only true way to get people out of Ranked who normally wouldn't be there, is to introduce some type of competitive aspect to Normal mode. That's why I believe adding a point system ladder to Normal mode (which revolves around time spent and not a system judging how good you are), is a much better solution than simply increasing Blue Essence gain.

contrariwise, there are too many smurfs and boosters for me to want to play ranked mode much.

my ideal mode would be something where you get NOTHING except stylepoints.. but there's still a separate screwaround mode for the "winning doesnt matter its jsut a game" people to go to.

The problem naturally doesn't include everyone, there are still plenty of players in Normal mode. My issue is more the people who are not satisfied with Normal mode but don't really care about Ranked either. These players do exist as hard as it may seem to believe, and in Silver you run into these types of players more so than anything else.

That's definitely true. Third time twitch jungle in my promo matches straight inted into every lane and made the game completely unwinnable. Cheese picks aren't a good choice for game modes where people actually give a shit.

I personally think promo matches need fixed pretty severely as well, in fact I can't understand why they even exist. You win enough to get maxed LP you should rank up. Promo matches are simply unnecessarily frustrating situations in which 90% of the time you have one or more players that would have done less damage to the game if they were simply afk.

if you add rewards to normal then it will become competitive thus it would almost be another ranked, but you do not get LP. maybe increase chances of chest and keys being dropped for normal mode, and increase honor gained in normal mode than ranked. I think this would be a good way to give incentive normal games.

Pretty sure there's much more ppl playing normals only than ranked. You propose grind which requires time. Casuals by definition play casually so the grind is not for them. Ranked should be more punishing.
