why is grasp of the undying more popular than strength of ages?

Critmaster Garen··1 votes·7,876 views

grasp of the undying evens out with stregth of ages when youre in combat for 12 to 16 seconds and trigger the health return off cooldown.

i dont know but with the amount of damage flying around right now, surviving that long isnt guaranteed. isnt 300 health upfront by midgame more useful than the 3% heal on auto attacks every 4 seconds?

what am i missing?

I would assume that it has to do with trading during the laning phase. While the mastery requires you be in combat for 4 seconds to activate, this does include dealing and taking damage from minions.

It provides a little extra burst damage and sustain while trading with your opponent in lane which can make it popular among many top-lane bruisers.

Some champs synergize well with one or the other. Cho is a good example of a champ that can use strength of ages because it would add an extra hundred point heal when he ults a seige minion at max stacks. And building those stacks are not hard. I took it on Garen and was able to get warmongs because the extra 300 hp pushed me just over 3k. Was able to get a couple damage items and destroy. It all depends on the champ and how you play them.

Meh, you're already getting bonus health, so extra bonus health on top isn't really helping you as much as it would other champs. I like Grasp on Cho'gath because I play him as an aggressive lane bully, so I want the extra life steal so I can camp your minions and chunk you when you get close. It's either that, or I'm playing for the late game and want Bond of Stone to protect my carries after my damage falls off.

dealing damage based on your health and converting it into life seems better than just having a little more hp.

because by the 20 minute mark, only 12 siege minions have spawned, granting you 120 health, assuming you don't take jungle camps. Which is pretty realistic considering the jungler will clear his jungle early-mid game, and if you leave lane you will lose tower quickly. why do junglers not take it? probably because most junglers go ferocity.

siege minions grant 20 health. the wording of the tooltip is just weird.

You're missing 3% of your max HP in true damage.

oooooh, it "steals" 3% health. so it also deals the same amount of damage to your opponent.

thanks.

Yes, it steals it so this is a more offensive option.

Because there are ways to increase heals and Grasp of the Undying can be triggered multiple times in a fight, not just once.

so i was missing the damge portion of the ability. the damage is magic based?

i feel strength of the ages probably needs to stack a little faster to be useful

make it a nice early game mastery

I believe its all early game what would you rather have 10 HP for a Large minion that spawns every 3 waves or be able to heal 30-40 HP while in combat for AA'ing. Without an early game there is no late game :/.

id rather have the 30 to 40 hp that i can get multiple times during a fight, and inflict as damage at the same time.
