Galio rework made me realize

Galiö··21 votes·1,951 views

That i have no fun or patience at all in this game.

I've been playing since season 1 and briefly in beta on another account... I stuck to this account except for season 2 because of a hack... And i had fun solely because of old Galio.
I was climbing up diamond and then BAM they reworked Galio. He was banned so much i decayed and then when i got to play him he was an entirely different champ with an entirely different playstyle. So needless to say im not as good with the rework.

I almost entirely gave up on solo queue causr i cant perform to higher diamind standards anymore.

I said hey, league is the only game i play anymore so let me play flex.

Oh boy is that a toxic environment. Almost no onr tries and then thry either troll or afk because i take a ranked game seriously.

So i dont have fun cause i have no champs i enjoy and i cant have fun because flex players dont take flex seriously and i cant play ranked solo because its almost as toxic but i dont have a level of consistency i used to.

All and all i am very unhappy with this game.

Going from a memorable favorite like megaman was to me and being the only game i play left into this game that i do nothing but come home to afterr working ten hours monday-friday just to get upset.

So thank you community and RIOT for coming together and keeping me down.

sorry riot changed your champion into a flashy plays LC$ champion to try and get sugar-addicted Yasuo Riven Zed mains to play a tank

i press F every day to pay respects to Galio

I thought my typos were bad. By changed i think you meant removed my champion and released a new champion.

They did the same to Sejuani. The only ability on her that stayed the same was her Q and that was her worst and most generic ability.

MrryZ1 votes

Sejuani kept her model and her abilities are still thematically similar, galio was changed entirely it's barely comparable

SanKakU1 votes

If Sejuani's rework has thematically similar abilities, then Veigar is thematically similar to Aurelion Sol, Bard, and Miss Fortune. Look at that, they all scale with AP! [slayer-jinx-unamused]

MrryZ2 votes

You're just being ludicrous, I didn't like the Sejuani changes either but insisting they're changed on a level similar to Galio's rework is actually insane.

SanKakU1 votes

She went from a brawling battle mage to a champion of great finesse. The only thing rough around the edges about her is the Q, and that's because it's the same as her old Q. The main thing you had to worry about before was the accuracy of her ultimate. She went from being a powerful, dumb champion to a sneaky weakling that uses superior intelligence and teamwork to destroy her foes. That's not thematically similar in the slightest.

God forbid the animation department make a champion spell effect look good, I mean the only thing flashy about the new Galio is just his ulti animation. Not sure why you're putting the new Galio next to the ""big play"" or ""outplay"" champs like Riven and friends.

Mens Hair Club1 votes

what about his le man mode dash?

what about his le man mode dash?

It's a dash on a moderate cooldown and a delayed start which can not go through terrains making it by definition much, much harder to pull off flexible and unexpected plays with it, let alone "LCS big plays" grade by default.

If you're just talking about animation about a character charging forward being flashy then everything in this game is flashy.

Galiö1 votes

With the new guy i typically only dash 'backwards' now for instant knock up. Such a dumb gimmick that u just gotta play around it.

Bionic Jellyfish7 votes

but you have to realize: the old galio was trash. he just was not good because his kit got too outdated. did u expect he would stay the same forever? that's pretty boring. things change in league, just like in life. if you only have fun playing old galio, maybe its time to move on to another game, like overwatch or pubg, or find another character to main.

LordGeovanni3 votes

Like may old champios he wasnt good because riot kept buffing ranged champions base stats while keeping champions like Aatrox Yorick Galio Taric intentionally below average on base stats. Old galio was one of the few champios in the game still gated by mana

Rainfall5 votes

well the new galio is better and fits players playstyles more, riot cant keep adding champions to the game just to keep older champions intact.

UnboundHades4 votes

rainfall can u stop shit posting for once i have yet to see a single comment or post from you that has any thought in it

Galiö3 votes

Well his comment is baseless but he seems to regurgitate tge same shit everyone else does.

Old Galio fit my playstyle more and as for 'better' id wreck new galio with old galio.

SanKakU2 votes

They could have just replaced old Galio Q with new Galio Q and then either made new ultimate what it is now or make his new W or E be his new ultimate. They didn't have to remove Galio's 2 most unique abilities W and E, and only leave remnants of his Q and R around.

Galiö1 votes

There isnt ecen a remnant of his old Q. New ones only similarity is that its a skillshot.

SanKakU1 votes

And it is damage. Look, I'm not going to tell you these abilities are the same, but try telling that they aren't to someone that thought old Q was boring. It's a skill shot with damage. If that's not similar enough for a rework argument, then I guess I wasted my time suggesting you try to enjoy one of those other 7 champions that remind me of old Galio.

You miss Galio E, right? Rakan E is like Galio E + mini Galio W. It's not the same, but it's good enough. You miss Galio Q? Rakan has that plus he moves on his W. You want a taunt? Go play Thresh or Camille and use your ultimate. It might not be exactly the same, but if you really want his ultimate, you can go play Axe from Dota 2 and cast it even more often. Plus, you can buy Blink Dagger and have a much better cooldown for jumping than that Flash summoner spell.

Galiö1 votes

No offense but the champs you listed are also nothing like old galio.

SanKakU1 votes

Rakan might not be the URF cancer that old Galio was, but he's honestly way more fun than old Galio ever was. If you can't find other champs that are fun, then maybe you're the reason they messed up the Galio rework so hard. You're too stubborn, and you ruined him for the rest of us.

Galiö1 votes

Cause you enjoy thosr hyper mobile flashy/edgy champs. I dont.

SanKakU1 votes

Galio wasn't edgy? Double standard, isn't it? They changed him and made him look like white batman.

Galiö1 votes

No. He wasnt edgy.

Sahn Uzal4 votes

Look man, I can sit here and share my opinions on the Galio rework and what not, but that really isn't relevant here.

No matter what was or was not kept or removed with the Galio rework, you feel like you lost the champion you enjoyed playing. And that's what matters.

I'm sorry to hear you're no longer enjoying League, and I wish you the best of luck finding another game to enjoy.

DariusDemiurge3 votes

That sucks.

Galiö2 votes

Life sucks.

SanKakU3 votes

Go play Axe from Dota 2. He has Galio's ultimate on a much shorter Cooldown. Or play Omniknight from Dota 2, he has something similar to Galio's W in ultimate form. Well, Galio's Q is surprisingly unique, but I guess some people think it's too boring. Galio's E on the other hand is very unusual and haven't seen anyone with this ability.

And if you still want to stick to LoL, try some of these guys, and don't just play like 3-4 games and call it quits. Play at least ten games with each of them and try to tell me they aren't as fun or even more fun than old Galio.

Thresh Rakan Urgot Trundle Ornn Braum Nautilus

Don't get me wrong, I miss old Galio too and I did want a rework for him like you. I also agree they messed up royally with his rework, but it's not like they can't fix it. They just haven't gotten around to doing it yet and/or haven't realized they need to yet.

There's definitely no replacement for old Galio, but if you can't enjoy any of the above champions, then maybe you should develop a new game where Galio is the main character so that he won't be deleted from it. [slayer-jinx-wink]

Shadòw3 votes

well it has been obvious for years that old Galio was unheathy and had a rework upcoming

Galiö1 votes

Unhealthy how? Galio and his opponent both had good and clear item pathing to oppose eachother. Not much champs have that.

And Galio had clear strengths and weaknesses.

Linna Excel3 votes

This is why I dread all rito reworks. I can stand the modernizations, but the effective deletes are the worst.

Sad Chihuahua2 votes

And what does the community have to do with this? And why is this getting upvoted? If you don't like the game anymore, try out a different game, or maybe even a different champion. There are 136 other champions, there must be one that you could find enjoyable.

Galiö2 votes

I tried. I dont like any of them. Only other i enjoyed was kassadin pre rework.

Also the community part is the toxicity. When you have a champion you enjoy you can overlook part of it. When yoi dont the issues become more glaring.

Sad Chihuahua1 votes

Also the community part is the toxicity.

That's not the whole community's fault. It's mainly due to the fact that no-one takes Flex Q seriously or they just play there for groups of >2.

Try other game modes or just try to play blind/normal-draft for the lulz. The game becomes more fun when you take it less seriously.

Kloqdq2 votes

I mean...

You don't have to play it? League at the end of the day is a game and I don't think anyone should be able to play one game forever. At some point you will just get tired of it and move on. Maybe you should just leave League for a bit and enjoy other games?

I still love league but I have for sure started to step away from it more and more as I just rather play other things. Maybe you'll come back and find something you love but I don't think you should drain yourself playing something you clearly don't enjoy any longer.

Galiö2 votes

I cant seem to get into any other games. I haven't reallu picked anything else up since i played league in 2010(11).

Maybe its my age and the amount of time i put into league. (Over 2000 hours as pre rework galio alone)

Kloqdq2 votes

I can understand that but honestly just taking a break from league is the best thing for you. Same goes for anyone feeling tired with league. Maybe watch some shows or movies or something. Once you stop it gets easier over time.

League can be tiring and just by it's very nature will drain everyone to some point. Best thing to do is just take time away from it.

SEKAI2 votes

"entirely different champ"

What part of his kit do you even miss?

  • Anti-mage scaling? Well, it's still there, and better since it's direct scaling now.
  • AoE taunt? Well, it's still there.
  • AoE clear and harass? Well, it's still there.
  • AoE teamfight ulti? Well it's still there.
  • Shield? Well it's still there, technically, just works differently as damage reduction.

So he lost 2 things, a secondary aspect of his shield that could be put onto people and the old E (they traded his limited mobility with another limited mobility). In a way, Galio is very much the same, just more self-oriented and things got shifted around a bit.

The loss of his other perk as a secondary buffer is a shame, sure, but don't claim that you no longer recognise Galio because of it.

That's just how reworks work. You "re-work" it and try to keep the spirits of the original alive, which is what they did, and it also wasn't executed poorly unlike some other reworks that either makes no sense, clunky beyond all beliefs, unpolished etc. I mean, while we're all hating on the Galio rework, meanwhile WW was changed just as much but his players are still happily playing him with little complaints outside of minor things like his user interface or his ulti hitbox.

The problem isn't the Galio rework, I would feel, at least not anywhere near being the majority of the problem. The problem is the fact diehard fans of a gigantic niche like who old Galio was tend to be incredibly inflexible to changes of scenery.

Galiö10 votes

He has a skillshot (Q), thats different from the previous two (old Q and E). Only similarity is that its a skillshot.

His taunt is an awful version of his old ult with less damage reduction than his old ult and his old W separately.

His E is entirely new and just thrown in there for mobility cause i guess everyone needs mobility now.

His ult is also random and requires you to use on a teammate ehich alloes the damage power in his Q (which was already gutted)

Old galio tank scalings where awful, his okd passivr was nearly useless past its lvl 1 ap and his W bonus. You had to spend 3K gold to get 33 AP and his scaling (for Q) was .6... so for 3K gold he got 25ish damage.

They had to retune his kit and maybe change 1-2 Skills.

He doesn't feel like the same champion or play likr the old one at all.

The new galio is more of a lane bully while old galio was anti bully.

I miss his tenacity proof ult and his heal and free armor to scale up thornmail.

EDIT: and his look

Okay. Though I'd say the only reason why the armour bonus didn't make it was because they want to emphase on his anti-mage theme so armour steroid seems off (and so they did away with and all in one pill of damage reduction).

EDIT: and his look

That only happened because Demacia is portrayed to be all white and shiny with the new universe reveal, and Galio's old colour scheme makes no sense in it, thus changed to fit it. Otherwise, he's still a gargoyle with not that much change from the original.

Galiö5 votes

He was never a gargoyle. He was a golem.

Also vayne and shyvana are demacians that dont look very demacian.

The old one was wise and patient, the new one is a 'lets punch stuff' kiddo.

Old galio was never designer to be specifically 'anti-mage' and his passive was originally intended to scale off armor and mr but proven too strong.

Here's the funny bit. He looks more like a golem now. Another funny bit, the general complaints during the first announcement was claiming that he no longer looks like a gargoyle.

But either way, thanks for approving current Galio's visual depiction.

Also vayne and shyvana are demacians that dont look very demacian.

Galio is Demacia's secret weapon in terms of his new lore, he has to be as "Demacian" as it can get.

The old one was wise and patient, the new one is a 'lets punch stuff' kiddo.

Do yourself a favour and actually read both of their lores and their game quotes, old the new. You sound like you just want to make up shit to diss the new Galio like other mindless mobs who would find every chance to say the new Galio is shit just because he looks different or some stuff like that.

I'm sick and tired of the repeated claim that old Galio was "wise and patient" when IN REALITY the only personality he had was that he had none. That IN FACT was his defining trait, and it wasn't a good one because a character without any characteristic really just isn't a good idea, especially when the structure of LoL does not involve plot progression and character development post-creation. Thus another approach is needed.

New Galio is only all "punchy" and shit now because he's depressed as all hell due to his shitty excuse of an existence as the current setup. And despite of his tragic circumstance, he still remains utterly optimistic to fulfill his duty and his desire to aspire, even if he lets himself a bit loose and let out a bit of his true mental state from time to time as observed in his more upsetting quotes. But I guess that's not wise enough for some people.

I am tired of the strawman, unfair and often just completely false understanding and comparison between new and old Galio's character.

Just no.

Old galio was never designer to be specifically 'anti-mage' and his passive was originally intended to scale off armor and mr but proven too strong.

He was anti-mage because he was anti-burst, scales on MR, and being more or less a counter the mage roaming from mid lane to other lanes. That alone is enough to call someone an anti-mage, which became the basis in which he was balanced around, and now redesigned with.

Galiö2 votes

He had a passive that scaled off MR. Thats it.

If you changed that hr woukd havr never been viewed as an anti mage.

He was intended to scale off of MR and Armor. They stuck with MR ONLY because it would seem to similar to rammus.

The golem look works with both old and new galio.

Thr new galio looks NOTHING likr the original galio. That is one of my complaints with the new visuals secondly his base model is ugly.

Almost all of his concept designs looked better than the one they used, and thry onky went with that causr they wanted to randomly go with a statue of liberty look.

Did you not read the part where I said a great part of his kit basically counters some core aspects of mages, traditional mages laning and their traditional strategies?

So you're proving my theory correct.

In the last couple threads I participated in that's about complaining about the new Galio, I made a bold theory that people are only shitting on the new Galio ultimately because he looks different (which is funny because the only thing that's actually more stood out than any other rework and visual update is the colour scheme change. Holy shit, such a big deal amiright), and all of the other reasons they pulled is just to try and rationalise and justify this 1 sentiment, because let's be real, new Galio isn't anywhere as a bad reiteration as stated again and again above.

I was correct in almost every case I've seen so far, and you're no different.

If you just want to oppose the rework because you think it looks ugly, sure, fire away. But Galio mains like Urgot mains, seem to have a thing or 2 with the "blow it out of proportion" approach and dress it under something bigger even when there's nothing there, like "oh the personality was all wise and shit", "oh the kit is changed so much I don't recognise Galio anymore", "oh Rito no care about be old time players", "oh..."

No.

We're done here.

Galiö2 votes

If you read any of what i wrote in this thread. And any of threads.

All i do is talk about galio. Its not only his appearance im uosrt about but his entirely different gameplay.

So his appearance, perosnality (although you claim he didnt have one), gameplay and abilities.

Yorick for example had an unheakthy kit that was OP if buffrd ans had three of pretty much the same ability with tweaks (kind of likr udyr) but ranged summons.

He was massively changed, maybe onr skill over the threshold for me perosnally, but his appearance is great and recognizable. His old appearance was very outdated as well.

Galios appearance was ok for his age and his Kit was healthy and could have used tweaks to make him morr meta but not OP.

2Charmnot2Charm2 votes

His E is entirely new and just thrown in there for mobility cause i guess everyone needs mobility now.

Didn't a lot of players make fun of him cause his only reliable way of getting his old ult off was through summoner 4 ?

Only for it to get interrupted by range cc already being thrown at you since your ult has a cast time or auto attack modifiers that stun.

Galiö4 votes

It was really strong and weak for those reasons. But your damage was abke to fully stack almost immediately if you ulted in a minion wave or under laser turret when that was a thing.

So there were still ways to make lemonade out of those lemons.

Memories of my old RG ghost full tank galio. run in at 80 mph and ult their entire team while taking no damage and feeling like a complete badass. i have one game on new galio and thats probably all i'll ever have. i mainly just play taric when i go top now
