Lost 13 LP because of 4 afks.

Tentakill Myself··153 votes·4,839 views

Yes, my entire. fucking. team. was afk. And I still lose my hard earned LP.

It's amazing how this game can exist for nearly 6 years and still have these common easily fixable problems.

And you're going to keep playing right?

There I just solved your dilemma of why the game has existed for six years in its state.

Well if an individual player on your team is afk for 10 minutes total, a "end game" button could pop-up. Also pops up at 15 and 20 minutes of total afk time.

The afker and anyone in his party would split the total LP loss, while allies lose 0. Enemies get the normal win.

Yummy Sashimi12 votes

Please go afk I will add you and gift you a skin later. That's just one way of abusing it, and I'm not going to list every single one of them. I think the system is fine the way it is right now.

ChaosThief29 votes

Every good thing has an abuse case. There is no avoiding it, regardless of how minor it is.

The in game chat is an excellent example. It's supposed to be used for communicating through typing, but people use it to flame and say downright awful things all the time. But that doesn't mean we should remove it.

Chromatic Eagle6 votes

I would be perfectly ok with removing chat.

Yeah, let's make the whole game a 1v1 Hearthstone game with just emotes.

I don't see that happening often as:

  1. Who would want to pay real money to climb?
  2. Who would believe that people such as 1 exist?
  3. That person would take the loss for all 5 people, somewhere between 50 and 100 LP.
  4. If it becomes a major issue, a system could be developed to prevent abuse.

It passes the first glance test, and is certainly worth implementing, even temporarily, on live.

Do you know why eloboosters exist? If something that riot implement creates more problems, why implement it at all?

Do you know why eloboosters exist?

Not everyone is an elobooster. I imagine a good chunk of the population also wants to climb (that's why they play ranked). You would get a lot of no's. It would also probably be cheaper just to get eloboosted.

If something that riot implement creates more problems, why implement it at all?

Because the problems it would create would be less than the problems it eliminates. No analogy is perfect, but here we go: Your house is on fire. If you call the fire department, they will come, and spray everything down. Everything will be wet. If you don't call, everything will burn to the ground. Everything being wet is a problem, but it's not as bad as everything being burnt.

Yummy Sashimi3 votes

70000 accounts were punished for eloboosting, I'd say gifting skins is a lot better because you don't get punished, it's not against the rule to gift skins, but you get your account banned for elo boosing. Not in this case. It creates more problems for abusers. Right now, people will go afk due to whatever reason(rage quit, dc, real life problems). After the system, people will still go afk because dc, real life problems PLUS the abusers. It basically only eliminates rage quitters, but they will troll instead. This will create more afk than before, so tell me how it's having less problems than it's eliminating?

Troll for Trump1 votes

Because this way you don't sit in a 4 v 5 with either: The 5th person isn't afk "Yet" so he still counts as part of the surrender vote, so, if one person says no, then wait more time. Or one of the other 3 people are being really tryhard and are trying to win and spam no surrender. 3/1 vote=no surrender. Legit. Oh, and the score is 5 - 25.

It's a team game, there will always be afks. I have, as of recently, had a fair number of afks due to necessities of real life. Afks aren't frequent. Not even in bronze. But the times that you DO get an afk are the worst.

So, three (four including mine) ways to fix this:

Before this I will define the term of "innocents" used for this. These are people who have to go do real life things, have an emergency, or afk for one breifperiod of time(3 mins middle of game, 2 mins due to game crashing at beginning etc). People who rarely afk and actively try their best not to.

Punish afkers harder. I'm biased against this, as real life necessities > One loL game. But please DO try to finish what you have started. Just increase the punishment tiers a notch.

Result: More innocents punished, greater reduction of afk, people are more determined to not afk, people are still unsatisfied when losing due to afk.

Do as OP suggested: Loss forgiven for afks.

Result: No innocents punished, no major disastifaction, no further reduction of afk. People are somewhat encouraged to afk.

Do what I suggested; a hybrid of sorts of the first two: Loss forgiven, and punish those who afk a little harder, but not super hard. People trying to abuse the loss forgiven system are given a warning, short unspecified ban period, then permabanned. They are intentionally cheating and forwarned against it. It's almost as bad as scripting. With a 3strike system, they can edge by two games at most, but it's still bad to have a strike. Heck, it might as well be two strikes and you are out, as any ban prevents you from getting the sweet end-of-season rewards.

Result: Slightly more innocents punished, no major disastifaction, a slightly reduction of afkers in the game, people are discouraged to afk.

Reward the people who don't afk: Wow, if you don't afk for the season you get another special bloody decal.Amazing. And/Or a mystery champ. Mystery skins are RP, and while they are more exciting lose more money for this great free to play game. They need the money. Be greedy, but not super greedy to the point that you are an inconsiderate asshole. But yeah people really like the decals.

Result: No innocents punished, disastifaction with losing due to afk, slight reduction of afks, people are discouraged to afk. Easier to implement(from Rito standpoint)

I did 9 of my 10 placement matches this season, 3 of those 9 had an AFK or rage quitter on my team. This is why I don't do ranked.

I do like having some incentives for not afking all season. May help with some of the issue. Harsher punishments are just going to hurt people with slightly unreliable Internet. Though honestly if you don't have an hour time block free or your Internet is having more than minor hiccups, you should not be trying to play a ranked game.

Yummy Sashimi1 votes

Then you are very unlucky. I get an afk per 100 games on average maybe even more. Trolling is different however, but we are only talking about afks here. I don't know why my original comment got so many downvotes, if this problem can be easily fixed, Riot would've done it years ago.

Llanite5 votes

The problem is, it creates free ELO, and would inflate system. The other team gains 5x ELO but the losing team only loses 1x, over time, there will be a lot of extra ELO around and they have to adjust the algorithm all the time (which will get ugly).

Daedalus8713 votes

No, the afkers party would take all the whole loss.

So if the players of the team would have lost 10, 26, 14, 17, and 18 LP, the afker would take an 85 LP hit. If he was in a duo, then they'd each take a 42/43 LP hit.

Llanite4 votes

ELO and LP are 2 difference things. LP gain/loss is decided by hidden ELO that you're not allowed to see.

If the AFK really lost 85 LP but only has 40 LP at that moment, -45 LP will just disappear while +45 LP to the other team is kept, the book isn't balance, extra LP was created. If the AFK lost a lot of ELO (= the losses of 5 people combined). s/he will play with less skill people while his/her skill does not really change, you just created a new army of smurf to plague lower-ELO.

The correct solution is to ban and remove them from the game, which Riot is doing right now.

Neither is really attractive. The correct solution is to ban and remove them from the game, which Riot is doing right now.

Creating smurf isn't really a valid counter argument. If they do that frequently enough, they would get a permanent ban anyways.

When you catch a theft, rather than taking them to prison, you'd rather exile them to the neighboring town. It's wrong in every level.

So yes, it's a valid argument.

Yes, and losing ELO and drop to the other brackets is exile to the neighboring city.

So yes, they should be banned, and no, they should not lose ELO on AFK.

If you're a duo and your friend rage quits, you should not be responsible for them. Just because I thought the Blitz support from last game was pretty good doesn't mean I should be punished for their attitude or decisions.

What if people bully others over team comp or to afk because they are losing so they don't lose LP?

Woa woa woa.... Hold on there buddy. What happens if this afk is Riots fault? In the past there have been a lot of bugsplat issues that will not allow players to connect to games. There we have a different problem. Someone will lose 100 lp even though it was not their fault...

Not subtract ip when its not a 5v5? or at least some reduction of loss?

Yummy Sashimi6 votes

Like I said before, easily abusable. If you make the punishment too hard, what about actual DCs or real life problems? Sometimes it's Riot's problem that caused lags, so players has to take responsibility for that? Anyway, I think the system is fine the way it is, changing it will create more problems so why bother.

Shit happens. Either make sure your internet is good or deal with the consequences before hopping onto the rift. If it's real life problem, then it shouldn't really matter.

Loss prevention.

Anyway, I think the system is fine the way it is, changing it will create more problems so why bother.

Your thoughts. A decent proportion of LoLers would disagree.

Yummy Sashimi5 votes

How can I make sure my internet is fine? I pay for the best service and I still get DC occasionally,it could be me or riot, so I lose 50 every time that happens? When it's real life problem, which already frustrates me, will get worse when all the real life problems plus the minus 50 lp I lose. Riot don't give out loss preventions right away. I don't know if you were here when Riot got ddosed everyday 2 years ago. It takes more than 5 minutes for riot to confirm their servers are messing up, loss prevention is being turned on manually after they confirm it. Many people will get minus 50s during that time, and people will quit the game, do you think RIot's going to be happy about their player base decreasing? Not just my thoughts,it's riot's thoughts too. If riot thought the system wasn't okay, they would've changed it to dota's years ago. People only come here to complain, when they feel good about the game, they won't say anything other than keep playing.

moomoomilkUwU1 votes

You can make sure your internet is fine by playing a custom game before the real game. That's what I do to test my ping sometimes.

sreggad2 votes

The problem with that is then people can manipulate the system to avoid losing as much IP. As messed up as it is. The system is fine how it is. The best thing to do is implement a soft ban system and a hard ban system from ranked. If someone is AFK for any reason. they get soft banned at increasing increments. starts with an hour and ends with like a week ban. have it set to be on something like 12 increments per season. at the 13th time your afk'd in a game your perma banned for the season from ranked. if this happens on any two seasons your perma banned from ranked for life. And I think once a month is too much. I'd honestly be okay with it being set to a total increments of 6 times and the 7th your banned for the season.

I see one afk game. Now one afk is one too many, but I think you've exaggerated here. It allso looks like you snowball as many games as you feed. I'm not perfect, but 0/8 on Nami is as terrible as 10/3 on Trist is kinda decent.

If you read that carefully, you would see that Vi, Vayne, and Taric stopped playing early. The gold gained tells that.

You could say it was a 5V2, as Ahri didn't seem AFK.

Congratulations, the trolls and real toxic people get away scott free with 1 report, while you get at least 4(usually more) reports, get a warning that claims you have been toxic even though you haven't, and get put on tilt knowing that the douches got what they wanted.

Maybe if you have at least three AFKs on your team, you could be given loss forgiven? I'm not really sure I'm seeing the abuse there because there's no duo queue manipulation there, and also because there'd be no issue of "if we pressure this one person these three people to AFK, we'll have loss forgiven!". People who were AFK lose LP, people who weren't lose zero.
