I Kind of Regret Finding My Main - Looking for Advice

Back in the day I was constantly changing main champions because I hoped that one day I finally would find a champion that I would have so much fun with that I could one trick him.

Eventually, MasterYi happened. Before I played him I either played champions who were unfun because they were so easy that they got boring after 3-5 games or so hard that I'd feed on them and lose my motivation to keep playing them. Yi was the best of both worlds. He was super easy to pick up but he has enough mechanical and tactical nuances for me to not get bored of him and it'll take a lot of time until I've fully mastered him.

The problem is that back in the day it was easier for me to win games because I played a wide variety of champions, I was always able to counterpick my enemy and react according to the situation. I think I've lost that ability. I feel like I really can't play anything properly that isn't Yi anymore. It's bad enough that Yi is so highly dependant on enemy and ally team combs to work. For example, back in the day I would just pick Gragas a lot when we needed a tank but currently this really sucks. I feel like way too often I'm in a team that lacks the necessary frontline or it's full AD or I'm against a team that counterpicked me really bad. This way I have to decide whether I pick a tank or a frontliner that I can't really play or instead just pick Yi anyway. Even worse, on 6.22 I also experienced how shitty it actually is to have a main with a negative win rate, I can just imagine how shitty it must be for Malicious Metal and the Mordekaiser mains. Despite the bugs though Yi actually got a buff this patch with the Guinsoo's and BotRK buffs and he will get another buff next patch when Fervor gets buffed but for that one patch, playing and winning with Yi felt like it was super hard.

I'm kind of torn between having to learn other champions again which will be less fun than Yi, especially since I'll feed the first games or if I just should keep one-tricking him. I'd love some advise from people who had similar problems during their League career. How do you deal with this?

Having a main is great, but so is having a champion pool. Keep trying new champions and you might find others like Yi that you enjoy playing. You might not enjoy them as much as Yi, but so long as you have fun playing them for a few games at a time you can safely work on adding them to your champion roster.

Having a main means a lot more than simply playing them a lot. It is perfectly fine to play other champions and still call yourself a Yi main.

I main Nasus, in the last two seasons I played him for most of my games and had a 60% winrate on him. This season, things happened and I burned out of Nasus. Burnout hapens when you play too much of the same champ and start to take things for granted, miss specific details and don't play as hard and try as hard as you usually do. I used to have 350 -400 stacks in 20 mins now I barely have 300. Then I picked up 2 more champions, Mordekaiser, and Nautilus, I find these two fun to play too but not as much as Nasus sometimes when I am on a loose streak with Nasus I just pick Morde and play him for a couple of games, it gets me untilted and I get fresh to play Nasus again. It helped me get a positive win rate again on Nasus. Hope this helped. Good luck on the rift.

Gonna try that, thanks. Don't even know with what I would start though.

try getting some champs with similar play style, Mordekaiser became my 2nd because he has the same damage. his 3rd q hits like a truck at every stage of the game. his w makes room for clutch plays like i can do with Nasus ult, and once i get Rylai's I can perma slow them, much like Nasus, but his core game style is much different, Nasus is a splitpusher, Mordekaiser is a team fighter. SO try to find a synergy like that. Would help you a lot.

Just take a moment to look at champion kits, and find what suits you the most and go from there, and if you end up not liking the champion, well....

just keep swimming, just keep swimming Nami

I said "Despite the Bugs". The buffed Guinsoo's is amazing on Yi, I gladly damage myself for a bit if that means that I will now get the extra free 25% base attack speed. On top of that, I also was able to heal all the damage back with BotRK's life steal anyway.

I think you should try out some other champs before deeming them unfun. I didn't have much fun playing sona the first time I tried her, but on a try a few weeks later I had a blast with her.

Well you one-trick something you describe as situationnal (early-farmer >> late carry melee ad). Try to find some other champs that can either 1) go swiss army kinfe for the whole game (looks like Lee Sin is the current poster-boy for that) or 2) fill a niche your current champ' can't fill (because you need a tank to fill team comps).

With a pool of 3-4 mains, you can probably fill any situation with success. And you'll probably find at least 2-3 more champs you can enjoy.

Plus if you main Yi, you're probably a jungler, and a lot of champs can go there (same if you're an unusual top/mid Yi). You already know the mechanics of the jungle (routes, timers, ganking opportunities, how to predict the ennemy moves, etc...), you'll just have to learn what your new champ can or cannot do, and when.

To practice in the jungle, you can first go in custom to see how the champ' fares against the camps, and then normal mode.

To practice the rest of the game, go in normal mode or the custom ones (hexakill, dominion and the likes). They have free gold and xp generation, so you can get a glimpse of any champ/build regardless of your farm/kills.

If you want to stay a onetrick but get fed of your champ' regularly, just onetrick in ranked and try other champs in normal/customs.

I'm way better on defensive supports so i stick to that in ranked, but it's always a blast for me to go Bard in normals ^^ Eventually i'll get good enough with him to pick him in ranked.

I personally haven't had this problem in League of Legends since I tend to play a lot of different champions (which suits me perfectly fine since I really only play normals), but I have had this problem in other games. Sometimes you just get burnt out from playing a single character over and over, especially when you play the same matchups over and over or find yourself being unable to provide a role that your team needs that you simply cannot provide.

The best way to remedy this is to pick up 1 or 2 extra champions that fulfill different rolls than Master Yi, but also keep Master Yi as your main. This way, you can at least supplement your team with a frontliner when your team needs it or if your main gets counterpicked pretty hard.
