Suppression Effects and QSS
So I understand that QSS is a necessary mechanic in order to provide counterplay for suppression abilities... but is it?
When a champion like Warwick or Malzahar uses their ultimate to suppress a target, both are locked in place for the duration of the ability. However, this interaction strongly encourages teamplay, in the sense that teammates of the target may interrupt the channel and free their teammate, while also having the chance to focus the initiator, since they will be unable to avoid their counterinitiation. Likewise, this interaction provides the aggressing team to fight a 4v4, with a priority target disabled for a short duration, allowing them to score the pick or move past and engage the rest of the enemy team. It also becomes in their interests to protect the suppressing champion, to increase their window of opportunity as well as protect their teammate from being focused down. In this way, Suppression is a very healthy for gameplay long-duration cc.
So the complication comes from the existence of QSS. Suppression champions are by design very strong in 1v1 situations, as there is no one else present to stop their channel. Rather than encouraging players to play smarter and in a more strategic, team-based way, players that insist on trying to directly 1v1 their opponent regardless are rewarded by the existence of QSS, which allows them to instantly invalidate the long CD ultimate ability of these champions and essentially invalidate their purpose in the game. You simply cannot outplay a QSS, by buying it they make you worthless, and there is perhaps no other item in the game which so successfully shuts out an entire champion mechanic (with the possible exception of Zhonyas).
What's worse, when you use QSS on a suppression skill, the caster is still locked into the animation for the full duration, unable to stop the channel, move, or cast anything else, while losing the effect of casting it. It doesn't just allow its user to defend against a long cc, it effectively punishes champions for using their strongest ability against anyone who has a QSS.
Essentially, I think the only way for Suppression to be the healthy mechanic it was intended to be, is to either remove the ability to cleanse it with QSS (as it is a strong and very kit-centric mechanic, not unlike the case made for Knock-ups not being reduced by tenacity), or AT THE VERY LEAST end the channel for the caster as soon as the Suppression is broken.
