Silver is a mess right now

The Deckowner··13 votes·1,486 views

The meaning of silver devision had been massively deweighted since this season, and quality of games had also decreased significantly due to a few things.

  1. Provisional placement(and exp change) This puts new players with less than 50 normal games into a division where many players have hundreds of ranked games played. Ever since Rito reduced the amount of exp needed to level up, accounts can get to level 30 with less than 50 games(I have witnessed one with 31 normal and a few bot games). These new players do not have enough experience with the game and is no where near the skill of an average silver player. things like match ups, csing, wave control, kiting, etc, which we consider basic knowledge and skill of the game, are often unheard of from the new players. I very often see people build super shitty item or have no idea how to face match ups due to the sheer lack of knowledge. they can go something like 3/7 in placement and get mid/low silver and they are deadweight for every single team they gor matched with and deastically reducing the quality of games.(I would definitely consider them deadweight when they have 20~30% win rate).

  2. Smurfing(and also the exp change) You probably have heard of the smurfing conspiracy, basically due to dynamic queue fucks over high elos, they smurf in the elo below and it ruins their game so they smurfs in the elo lower than them too. This is probably the less important one but it just feels pretty sad when you see plat smurfs dynamic boosting in silver.

  3. Dynamic Boosting Dynwmic boosting basically means abusing dynamic queue and trying to elo boost lower rank players. Since the matchmaking system is so bias towards premade it often gives the boosting premades unfair advantage so people love doing it. Those boosted animals have WOOD V level skills and they feed their ass off when.not.in premade with booster. Often times when the booster isn't too good the boosted animal(this is.usually real life friends boosting for their friens) the boosted animals are sooo bad that the booster fail to carry them. Every game with boosting prenade are basically decided by the booster, ir the booster is good then easy rofl stromp, else ff@20 because the boosted animals areso bad you are basically playing 4v6.

I really wish Rito can do something about this problem. Silver isn't a great place for introducing new players to ranked, ssmurfs and boosting premades are everywhere legally ruining games for people. Someting need to be done.

U overvalue silver too much. Silver is ELO for beginners. Saying that they have no skill for silver when silver is made for players of beginner skill is ridiculous.

The Deckowner4 votes

not really, a lot of silver players actually aren't as bad as people call them because we climbed all the way out of elo hell, unlike those new players who just got placed in silver despite going negative in placement.

You overestimate silver. Bronze: You don't know how to play the game. Silver V-II: You know how to play the game but you're so bad at it that you may as well not know how to. Silver I: Half of these people are on their way to gold, the other half on on their way back down - no one really stays here. Gold-low diamond: People are generally pretty knowledgable and where you fall in this spectrum depends mostly on consitency (bascially, gold players suck almost as much as silver players but at least they know it.)

omg the last part is so true for me haha! My biggest change from not being able to get past silver 2 to reaching gold was being able to admit I suck. Like... just being able to finally realize it and admit it made learning and improving possible. I am still bad, but I have two accounts in gold this season after thinking in previous seasons that reaching gold was pretty much impossible.

Actively trying to improve actually works.... who would have thought?

Eh, I disagree. Even though, statistically speaking, that silver is supposed to be average, brand new players in a moba should not be average. They should be in bronze or they should have the skill and knowledge to reflect otherwise.

Honestly the biggest problem here is DQ boosting and how poorly the placement system places players.

But u dont understand. You can end up in gold from placements. Easily. Even with 6:4. Which is just slightly above average. Look it like this:

5 people move into house:

Silver= He has no money at all, just found a job and is on probation period. Contributes nothing. Gold= He saved a bit of money, having a job, Contributes a bit Platinum= Saved some money, also got his first salary. Contributes decently. Diamond= Had a job for a while now, also saved alot of money. Contributes alot.

And in the end we have bronze:

Bronze= He has no money. He has no job. He owes money. Contributes nothing.

Now if u pay attention , you will see that for house Silver and Bronze are same. They contribute nothing. But silver is on a possible way to starts contributing, although its gonna take some time. Now Silver thinks he is better than Bronze, because he might be contributing soon, even though atm he contributes as much as Bronze. And if Silver doesnt really pass probation period, and start borrowing money, he will end up being Bronze.

I cant believe i made this stupid analogy...

The problem is if you were in bronze or low silver in previous season, your base mmr is lower and you need to win more games than a comoletely new unranked player to reach the same rank.

This right here is the main problem. Like why Riot does this, especially now that they changed how many games it takes to rank up is completely retarded.

Toplane Fencer3 votes

IMO new players should just all be placed in B5. This would make rank mean more and discourage smurfing.

Rainbow Smarf4 votes

that analogy is just beyong the stupidness, i mean i never seen such a dumb thing they don't even explain anything about anythings lol it was useless and a massive lost of time.

Ive done as well as 8/2 and not gotten above silver 4. So either you are lying or someone lied to you

Climbed out of elo hell? If the people aren't as bad as people say then they shouldn't be in silver.

2 silver players, one who were put into bronze in previous seasons and climbed out of it to reach silver, is much higher in terms of knowledge and skill compare to someone who just got placed silver.

Also the mmr change this season basically makes you easier to get in silver if you are unrank this season and last season. to get silver last season you need to at least go even in placement, now 3 wins gives you silver.

Silver ELO was always set as new lvl 30 ELO before placements. Meaning if u ended 5:5 u could have ended in s2. Friend of mine ended in s5 as 3:7 in s4. There is certain 3-4-3 theory which says that out of 10 games : 3 you will win no matter what, 3 you will lose no matter what and 4 depends on you. Only way to end up in bronze is to be so bad that you cant even be carried. Silver players think too high of themselves because there is division under them, but they dont realize Bronze doesnt really count. They dont even get borders. Its like Silver = 0, Bronze= -1. Bronze is like ranked casual, where players that have no hope of progressing ,or very little hope.

Well i havent been in Bronze but on one of my acc i ended in s1 in preseason, so in new season i ended in s5. Got to gV just playing Nocturne with 16:1 winrate.

You can easily climb out of silver. Just dont play silly picks like Zed, Yasuo, Katarina... Commit to one champion and just spam him. Look account i got to 30 last month.

Just played Trundle and 1 Malph game (which would been win if i played Trundle. And that 1 support Trundle was cause Morde just said "im going top" and locked Morde so i swapped to support Trundle.

Cheese champions like that can carry out of bronze and silver easily. It doesnt have to be Trundle. Jarvan 4 AD top. Jayce top. Rammus top. WUkong top. Vi top.

Im not anymore. Sure my alt accounts got in gold after promos. Where do you think my main ended back in s4? Silver ofc. You think it was easy for me? I got 5:5 after placements and ended in s3 (i believe). It was struggle to reach gold. Until i bought Morgana. Started maining her mid and ended up with 79% winrate in s4. And u know worst part? I didnt know that season will end, or when it will end. I was at S1 98 LP just before season ended, and reward was Victorious Morgana. I was desperately hoping i can get her during preseason if i climb and spammed her and got to plat in preseason. But as u know , u dont get reward in preseason. And that was only thing that motivated me to improve alot. That 1 victorious skin.

The Deckowner5 votes

so you failed to climb out of silver with your min, and got plced gold with smurf, that proves placement is trash.

HaloDragonX1 votes

or maybe he just improved by playing against worse people and realizing their mistake. But yes placement system is trash.

Dukues1 votes

Historically you are correct, but what I and many other players argue is that is not how it should be. Granted at this point Riot probably won't ever change it, but it is dumb to have new players placed in silver pretty much automatically. It takes time, skill, and knowledge to rank out of bronze and unless someone is ok they should not be placed into silver. Ranked is all about grinding ranks and the better you are the faster you climb. So it seems dumb to just automatically put almost any new player and say their "average" when average in this game is generally many players who have played this game for years and have hundreds if not thousands of normal and ranked games played.

Although silver will never mean your good, if they changed how placements worked it would at least mean a little more. It would at least force players to be boosted or play more around a silver elo to actually make silver. Like you said I have new friends too who won 3/7 placement games and were placed in silver. They eventually get demoted to bronze (most at least) since they are still learning the game. They also ruin pretty much any game their in until they drop down to low bronze. Its a bad experience for the over ranked player and for any of their teammates.

Placements at the start of the season were putting everyone in Bronze.

The Deckowner1 votes

that is not true

Xonra1 votes

It isnt far from the truth. Evetyone gold or olwer was in bronze. You couldnt finish higher than play.

I ended in s3 and went 7/3 and it put me in bronze 3 for some reason. It put everyone the lowest of any previous season on average. There were diamond players that got dropped as far as gold 1 and 2.

The Deckowner1 votes

placement only affects people who were ranked in previous season, which means new players who never even played last season does not get mmr reset. which is why I was saying the statement wasn't true.

I don't think Dynamic Queue is effecting Silver nearly as much as the other two points. Between smurfs and new accounts placed in Silver I never feel like I'm playing with people on my level.

Ulriah2 votes

Blaming boosters for not being able to climb is the real mess her.

The Deckowner3 votes

never said can't climb, just these people are making games unfun.

Ulriah1 votes

Oh right, and this is only because of Dynamic Q, boosters and smurfs never existed before. And just because someone gets fed and carries his team he's automatically a smurf of course.

The Deckowner3 votes

dynamic queue never existed before this season lmao wtf are you talking about

Ulriah2 votes

Exactly, Dynamic Q didn't exist before, but the problems you mentioned did, yet all I can hear is ''waaa waaa Dynamic Q''.

The Deckowner2 votes

Silver had never been this much of a mess before, games were actuallg competetive. Dynamic queue and the exp change alsi encourges boosting and smurfing, it 's a chain effect.

Ulriah1 votes

I've seen the exact same mess in Silver and Gold in Seasons 5 and 6 both in EUW and EUNE so I have no idea what you're talking about.

You refuse to listen. That is why.

Yes, people don't usually tend to listen to crybabies.

Ulriah1 votes

Oh right, I forgot that League is all about pampering to the NA community.

Xonra1 votes

Agree. Im finding games dont feel as fun and competitive (why my games played have plummeted compared to having more time to play).

Either full on stomps or seeing teammatea full on feed. Im no great player but ive played longer enough to see the difference for sure and know i dislike it enough to stop playing.

Anags2 votes

Man people have always fed their ass of in basically every division. Pretty much no one that is just starting out places in silver so I call BS on that.

I have never placed higher than bronze 1 and I'm gold 2 right now. And I have never played a ranked game with more than a duo partner.

Why do people assume because someone fed in a game that they are bad or new. Maybe they had a bad game or just picked an unfamiliar champ. Or they just don't take it that seriously.

Smurfing has always been around this is nothing new. Hasn't gotten worse or better. It is always that way.

I played through silver this season and it wasn't any different than the last couple seasons as far as people lacking game knowledge or skill.

This post is stupid BS.
