Are the Eye items (Sightstone + income item combo) ever going to be viable?

These items are simply garbage right now. Few games drag on enough for 1 person to get full build, and the money-starved support will almost always be the last person that needs slot efficiency more than gold efficiency. When compared to the very powerful actives and gold efficiency of the income items such as Frost Queen's Claim, the eye items simply put, suck.

If they're going to lose the extremely powerful actives of the regular income items, they need something more. Either better gold efficiency or a cost reduction. They don't give a powerspike or anything. and if you really want the slot efficiency you don't need gold anymore so you can just get rid of the income item and get a ruby sightstone. I understand they are meant to be slot efficient for extremely long games not meant to be built 100% of the time, and I'm fine with that, but nothing makes them a better option than Ruby sightstone except maybe in the case of Mages wanting the mana regen and AP of eye of the watchers.
