How to play as Vlad/any early weak champ against Riven?

Okay, so I'm asking this question to any better LoL player: how to play against Riven as Vlad or any other weak in early game champion?

How? She's like the only champ I cannot play against. Xin Zhao? I can do with it. Irelia? Bit hard, but winnable. But RIven? 2 low cd gapclosers, shield that negates any harassment, knock-up, stun and insane damage from passive and ultimate. If I try to farm, she'll come close to me and beat the sht out of me. If I let her push my lane so I can safely cs near turret, she'll snowball, because lane's pushed. And my pool is not enough to run away from her - if I use it after her 3rd Q, she still has her 2nd gap closer and stun. If I try to pool away after she used both knock-up and stun, I already took too much damage. If she took ignite for one of the summoner's, I'm basically dead. When I see in champ select that someone picked Riven after I picked Vlad, I already know I lost my lane, unless that Riven is amazingly stupid (but seriously, I don't know how stupid someone would have to be to fck up laning phase with Riven). So, any advises how I can play against her and at the same time not feed? (besides something like "don't pick Vlad against Riven" - we assume that first I picked Vlad, than someone picked Riven, which means I have to lane against her, because let's be serious - no one swaps lanes in Silver 4).

You dont. You just simply cannot win lane. Any half decent riven will destroy any vlad. And any good riven will destroy any matchup. just do your best to farm as much as you can and q her every time she comes up for cs but that is it. Dont try anything further than that and just hope your jungler isnt a wannabe godyr

I thought Riven was bad against ranged toplaners with sustain?

not really, vlad has a horrid early game and riven can just cheese him at level 2 and 3. As soo nas riven gets a vamp scepter the lane is over vlad will never win a trade. There arent much ranged top laners with sustain. vlad is one but is pretty short ranged and if riven maxes E first your q will do 0 damage on her all in

Riven rushing vamp scepter? and still manages to win lane??? wtf???? Riven cheesing vlad at lvl2? She should be below 50% health at lvl1. If Riven maxes E then she will do 0 damage, and you're supposed to wait until her shield runs out since its the shortest shield in the game.

Vamp scepter is horrible early, if you get killed by a riven with vamp scepter then you should uninstall.

This is by far and away the dumbest comment i have ever read on these forums. How do you plan on getting riven below 50 percent hp at level one with your one ability on a high cooldown and she takes shield first to negate 110 damage? Watch any high elo game, they almost always max shield first in a ranged matchup. She has insanely high ad ratios so she doesnt need to max q first. Riven level 2 damage with a E-Q-A-Q-A-Q ignite is 850 damage most likely 740 after armor vlad is 555 with a Q and full stacked e and 3 autos and ignite. Thats before armor and rivens shield. So rivens shield negates 110 at level one so now its 445 and probably has roughly 40 mr so 375-380 damage. Lol good luck mate, you either just died or burned your flash. Shall we compare their level 6 bursts or are you done looking like an idiot on the internet?

Riven's Q damage = 130 (with the most common runes+masteries) and around 330 with 3 autos +90 from ignite (and ignite on top laners only works in low elo). I wonder where you got the 850 damage from. You're supposed to use your autos as vlad and wait for her to use her shield and then use Q. She can't trade back, you get free harass and she can't all in you at lvl2 or she will die.

I have over 1000 riven games and got to diamond 1 with her this season and play in a better region so I think I know what I'm talking about. I don't even get vamp scepter until I complete hydra, the normal build is brutalizer>tiamat>cdr boots>lw>complete hydra when I'm maxing Q or W first, I get boots 2nd if I'm maxing E.

first im not gonna believe crap you say as this account is level 16, so some proof would be needed to prove you are diamond and that EUW is better than NA lol. but putting that aside i was using 90 as the base instead of 10 my bad. so 10 plus 40 so 50 equals 150 with all 3 plus 100 for autos plus 20 for passive so thats another 360 plus 150 is 510 without ignite but lets say that neither took ignite. Vlad still does much much less not even mentioning that he takes his own health to use abilities but he heals for a small amount early so we can just negate that. This is also on the assumption that riven doesnt get any otehr autos off and doesnt auto immediately after e like any good riven would do. level 3 is even worse for vlad. Also most likely riven will hit 2 before vlad as she can clear a wave much faster due to her passive. Also she reduces 110 of vlads damage at level 1 shield which is almost his entire q. There is a reason riven is listed as a counter pick to vlad.

My main account is http://euw.op.gg/summoner/userName=riven+lovejoy and proof that NA is a lot worse than every other non wildcard region: http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/37c7wc/clg_pobelter_ama/crlqyfj (quote: The players are just worse.. I can think of several pros that come to NA from a different region and plays on the ladder ends up ranking top 20 easily and laughing at how bad everyone is.) and http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/395rs1/interview_with_dignitas_gamsu_climbing_in_kr_solo/

Riven is not going to push with her Shield so she won't hit lvl2 first, and even if she does she still doesn't have enough damage to kill vlad.

uh, good luck.

As Vlad you need to extend the trade as long as possible. You will sustain off your Q but Riven has Crap sustain. I also think her shield is a bit over rated. As big as it is, it's duration isn't that long. And because your Q damage happens instantly, she really can't just block all your poke like that. You might try getting boots early to help keep your distance. Perhaps Lucidity boots to help you trade with her. Yet that will work until she matches that. I feel like the worse case scenario against Riven is if she thinks to get an Early Hex Drinker, Cause that will pretty much ruin any dueling power you had.

Your best bet is probably going to be Jungler Assistance. Particularly if your Jungler is a tank. Cause if they have lock up, you will have the DPS to at the very least bully her out of lane. Over all, I don't actually advise picking Vlad Blind, for reasons such as this.

Cloth 5 and play super carefully, give up caster minions if you have to.

May I recommend that when you see a Riven play Chogath. I don't believe I've ever lost a lane to Riven as Cho. I understand that this is about the Riven vs Vlad match up, but playing another champ is an option for facing a Riven.

I have no idea.

Riven is probably Vlad's single biggest counter.

Start cloth 5 and hope to outscale. Don't expect to kill her in lane.

Don't get hit... if she wastes her cds to gapclose, her dmg is not so great.

Honestly, its not as bad as you think. The trick to beating riven is harassing her when her q is on cd, and harassing her alot early. She has one of the lowest hp per 5 in the game and is pretty squishy.

E.x. As Vlad, I would sit back in my minion wave, and only cs with autos. If riven uses broken wings, start aa'ing her. If she tries to fight you, orb walk into your minion wave and then e q her. Rinse and repeat.

Oh, and riven doesn't really outscale without kills. If you keep even cs with riven, you are doing good.

If she gets a kill on you early, it complicates things. You HAVE to go buy defensive items. If.you build damage, you are asking to get killed. Get one purpose is to kill people. Building glass cannon just makes you that much more squishy.

Lastly, remember that riven has 3 (imo, might be more) main powerspikes. Level 3, level 6 and once she gets hydra. Those are the most dangerous times to fight riven and if you make a mistake, she will get a kill and will snowball.

The opinion of a fuccboi doesn't actually count as proof.

Have to learn how to auto-attack, keep your distance so she has to use CD's just to get to you, be backing up as she comes so she has even more space to travel, second she starts to back off auto attack her as much as possible, land a Q.

Boots are important here, so is an early armguard. If she went Ignite and you went Tele use it for lane sustain, avoid the all-in.

Vlad is weak early, Riven isn't. This is a counter lane, your goal is to be within 20 CS by 10 minutes without giving up a kill or your turret. 35 CS by 20 minutes and no more than 1 kill deficit. They're the ones who have to force onto you, make them pissed off and force them into a mistake through safe play. This is Riven were talking about after all, they Yolo 24/7.

If you're under your turret often ask your jungler to help. Usually top laners only bring their trinket to ward with and most of the time it's in the river bush. Keep an eye out for if/where your opponent is warding. If the ward is in the river bush tell your jungler to approach from the tri bush instead of the river.

Just be sure to ask nicely :)
