I made this as a reply for another thread that apparently got deleted while I was writing the reply, and since I did a lot of writing and number's stuff, I felt it would be a waste to see it all go away, so here's the reply I made to a comment saying "he's not strong because 2 of his skills are the most telegraphed in the whole game"

His ult is on an around 20 something sec cooldown because all Ekkos now run Cosmic Insight AND Ultimate Hunter, as those two combined with a base 40% cdr will give a total ult cooldown of almost 60% since UH stacks multiplicatively, resulting in Ekko having his ult almost every 20s.

While it's true that he can't use it twice in a single fight, he can have access to it multiple times when both sieging and defending, and his ult is quite a powerful one.

So it kinda doesn't matter how telegraphed it is if you don't have the tools to burst him TWICE, and in later stages of the game, many champions actually need their own ult to be able to accomplish that, so if he lives, in 20s he'll have his ult back, but you won't.

Telegraphed means nothing when the champion is so over tuned that his numbers just negate his counter play. Don't believe me? Here's his stats, across all ranks in both mid and jg from Blitz, U.GG and for the lol of it, League of Graphs with an overall one from LoG as that one shows it and I'm not in the mood to calculate it.

So except for Blitz, showing 3 negative win rates for mid only in Bronze, Master and Grandmaster, across 3 sites, Ekko has no negative win rates, with really high play rates overall, while his JG play rate is huge, to the point where it doesn't matter what you're against, pick Ekko, as other than Graves, which always remained a solid counter pick on the tracking sites, some show Rek'sai counters him at certain ranks, while at others he counters her, and same goes for Warwick, Nidalee, Shaco and Yi, based on rank and site, either they counter him, or he counters them, so it's pretty much a skill match-up, and if you're good, ban Graves and Ekko JG is pretty much the definition of Freelo.

So yea, right now, being telegraphed seems to have no impact on his S+++ status.

So he's fine mid but broken in the jungle? Nerf his passive damage on monsters. It would nerf jungle Ekko without affecting mid Ekko a lot. Or just revert the W changes.

someone explained the mechanics behind ekko's consecutive buffs ages ago pre-worlds but they got ridiculed, so really why even care about the state of ekko anymore? I certainly can't be arsed to do so after people insisted he needed all the buffs.

According to U.gg which you posted his wr in jungle flucuates a bit on ranks.

Something tells me we will have another case of Taliyah soon (the way riot balances champs) which is really really sad.

I guess the comment you are referring to was mine.

To clarify: I didn't say that Ekko can't be strong because he has 2 highly telegraphed skills with W and R. It was an answer to someone saying "why does he get a shield and a free zhonyas in his kit?".

His "free zhonyas" is high only escape from the middle of the team. Which he should be able to do since he is an assassin and their whole shtick is to get in, kill someone and then get out again. Hitting your W on a target that has vision on you also is fairly hard, so I think it is fair that he has that as well. And using it reactively to defend yourself is also kinda hard, since it has such a long windup time.


That does not mean he can't be overtuned. Looking at the stats you provided here, it seems that he is mostly just overperforming in the jungle position, tho. I agree with Infernape that it seems fair to target his jungling with nerfs specifically while leaving his mid lane performance untouched, so nerfing his passive damage against monsters would be one way to do that.
