@Riot please answer this question regarding Evelynn

mirAcIe··5 votes·804 views

Since Alistar and Tristana updates are here and the only one left on the schedule page is Poppy, is it finally time for Evelynn's update? And what's it gonna be, visual or gameplay? How soon it's gonna be released? Because I'm sitting here building Napoleon plans on conquering Soloq with Eve in S5, but what if you just chage everying in 2 months. I wanna be prepared. Rito please, don't leave us in the dark! The night may be my veil but I still need the moonlight to navigate!

Last time Ironstylus mentioned it, Eve was still in the 'what the hell are we going to do with her?' stage of planning. That was a few months ago, though.

I believe Taric is next after Poppy and Urgot. They've done quite a few extensive threads getting feedback from the community on what direction visually they should push Taric in. I would love to see Evelynn get some attention, definitely, but I think they really need to address the Pizza Feet people before Eve.

Urgot really hasn't even been mentioned. I wouldn't be surprised if Taric comes out even before him.

Well, why don't we make this a 'What the hell do we do with her?' topic? If a bunch of players who are interested in Eve are providing their input in an orderly fashion it might attract some Red attention. If nothing else, I'll try setting up a topic with a poll if things don't work out here. Just a few questions to ponder.

  1. What are you willing to give up from Stealth to get power shifted to the rest of her kit? Would you be willing to have passive stealth moved to part of her Ult? Wold you be willing to let her keep passive stealth, but treat Green/Yellow wards as champions (though she would get a (!) to let her know she has been seen ala chicken buff)? Would you be willing to give up passive stealth for active stealth on her W?

  2. What would you like to see as Eve's focus? Sustained damage AP Assassin? Burst AP Assassin? Sustained Damage AD Assassin? Sustained Damage hybrid Bruiser?

  3. What do you see Eve as being? Random magically infused mercenary? Some sort of vampire-thing from the Shadow Isles? A malevolent fae that snuck out of the Glade? I don't think demon/succubus really works because League doesn't have demons of any kind in its lore. The closest thing on that front are Void critters, and unless something really weird happens I can't see Eve going to Team Void.

She needes a total rework so i don't think they are going to announce anything yet. Still, I'd like to know the answer too.

Honestly I don't feel like she needs a total rework. Her gameplay is fine, especially after the recent buffs. I am fine playing her as she is now, but I'm afraid that all my experience and knowledge about Eve will go to waste if they are planning on changing everything about her.

I wonder if we could convince Riot to let us decide on a theme and/or a set of design goals for Eve.
Even a board thread asking what Eve players want from her would be cool.
Either of those events could move her out of the "what the hell are we going to do with her?" stage.

There's a discussion in Skins and Champion Concepts about her theme that could pick up.

  1. Nothing. Stealth is her signature feature. I think there are a lot ways to counterplay her stealth. As long as champions like Rengar exist, who can snowball and oneshot everyone unlike Evelynn, I think her stealth if out of the question whether it's an appropriate mechanic or not. You can ward her jungle camps to see where she is, she has quite huge detection range and she has no viable cc except for her 150-cooldown ultimate early game. Which isn't a viable cc either. By ganking she exposes herself to dying and she's very weak to counterganks. There are enough trade-offs already. People who actually know and play Evelynn only ask to do something like revert her Q to pre-nerf values, so she can make her first clear without any mumbo-jumbo, so she doesn't fall behind the enemy jungler in EXP. We'll take it from there.

  2. I like her the way she is right now, she has good damage and good scaling, except for the part where her E deals physical damage. I think it should be buffed just a little bit (maybe on higher ranks) and it should deal magic damage. Since DFG is no more, I think this thing should be done.

  3. This is my personal opinion and it may be very different from everyone else's and my ingame Evelynn experience does not add me any creative credibility here. But I always thought of Eve based on her original lore, but went with a theories described there as if they were facts. So I treat her like a corrupted human, that was transformed due to some dark magic abuse that made her hungry for others pain and suffering. Yet she is still kinda like vampires in those movies where they can tolerate the sun and they live among normal people and have somewhat normal social lives. In Evelynn's case, her "normal" life seems like an assassin profession which she uses to fullfill her dark desires and in the spare time, she's just a girl next door with a blue skin and pointy elf-ish ears, and she's playful (on both levels) and kind of a poser. Sort of like Janna's long lost sister. But when she's on a job, she goes full predator and takes pleasure in every moment of doing her work. Also the source of her "darkness" is believed to be Shadow Isles, but it might be true or not, but at least Evelynn wants us to think that it is true by not denying it. I like the idea of her origins not being confirmed, but yet described as a theory. Note that this all is my impressions based on the lore that Riot gave on Evelynn so far - her bio, relationship with TF, the tango event, the break-up and her in-game quotes. All these give me the impression of two sides of her. Sort of like she plays a predator, but she isn't really one. She enjoys doing it, but at the end of the day this isn't what she really is, but it is something she has to do to satisfy her hunger and she wants to do it in a cool and badass way (hence the poser). That explains her original skins - Tango/Masquerade. She dresses up to make her work more fun.
