The reason bruisers are bad

Hi guys so I am a Jax main and I wanted to tell you guys why bruisers are so bad right now. The simple answer is that bruiser itemization is insanely expensive. It’s cost about 10,500 gold for 3 items ( trinity force, titanic hydra, steraks gage). Now compare that to tank core items and you get: 8700 gold for sunfire, randuins and abyssal. No other class core item set even breaks 10,000 gold. Mage is the closest with 9,800 but even then that’s if your going rabbadons early. This needs to be changed bruisers items cost way too much. Here is a link to another post that outlines the cost of core items for each class and subclass for the most part.

The reason bruisers are bad is because they were originally able to dominate the lane and create massive CS leads or solo kill the enemy laner a couple times.

However, the new ranged/tank meta this preseason has made bruisers unable to fulfill this dream.

That sounds really unfun to be honest.

Does Teemo having a 55% winrate and tanks being able to out damage bruisers sound more fun to you?

Hmm...tanks vs dying once in lane and having a massive loss that can't be regained because any fight that happens afterwards is pretty much an automatic win for your laner.

Yeah I think fighters and they laning style in general needs an overhaul.

Why play bruiser when you can play a tank and do similar damage while being tanky?

Maybe for split pushing? But even then with new runes tanks basically have a rift Herald attack to smash turrets

Only every 45 seconds, a Fighter will still knock that down long before the tank has Demolish back up.

The problem is that all 3 items are REALLY REALLY strong (debatable on steraks gage). You cant just reduce the cost and be done with it.

True but that can also be said about adc items and they are cheap as hell. I swear to god riots balance team is a bunch of adc mains

Durzaka1 votes

Thats not true at all.

By themselves, no ADC item is very strong (potentially IE, but youre relying on crits with low crit chance at that point). The strength comes from the multiplicative nature of the items together.

A Jax with TF is MUCH more threatening than an ADC with IE.

Sterak maybe.

But Tiamat is incredibly strong too (both branchs). As well as the fact Titantic gives tankiness as well as wave clear, on top of a very strong increase to burst (ESPECIALLY on someone like Jax who already has an AA reset).

They have much power but those 3 items still can't match up to ADC's damage. ADC's have three forms of damage scaling. ADASCrit. This makes their auto attacks do far more damage on top of it being dealt quickly. Their AA's are just too powerful along certain ADC abilities.

No one said they would match an ADCs damage. But they do exactly what the bruiser wants to do.

Give a Jax, any mage, and any adc 9k gold worth of items, and the Jax is going to win that fight 99 times out of 100.

They do their job. They brawl. And they brawl exceptionally well.

The problem is different than that. The problem is that is not what the game needs right now because balance is fucked everywhere else.

Item cost and no good keystones, cripples them. I used to spam a lot of Urgot and Darius with fervor, tank match ups used to b very favorable lanes for both of them.

But now whenever I face a tank it feels like I do 0 damage to them all early game, and barely tickle them post cleaver.

Meanwhile, whatever the fuck a """"brusier"""" is, can build item 3071 and invalidate a tank's entire build with a single item.

No I'd rather not buff bruisers. Because when bruisers are strong tanks become useless. Why? Because a bruiser can build like a tank and still do decent damage. And bruisers are actually relevant in the late game, unlike most tanks in this game.

Elkington1 votes

It's actually the opposite. Tanks have always scaled better than most bruisers on Summoner's Rift due to their utility, but right now they have better early-mid games as well due to problems with the new runes and itemization.

Auto attack bruisers (which is specified) is not very many of them. And that build gives them a huge advantage vs the general population of units. I Would be interested in the difference in stats from the juggernaught (which is probably worst off in general) and tank builds to the Fighter.

Defensive items will always cost less than offensive items as they are reaction bought, meaning you buy them based on your needs, not your wants. All of the reactionary offensive items follow the same trend, with most % armor pen and % magic pen items costing less than other completed late game items. Black Cleaver is the lone exception since armor penetration isn't it's only use.

Also, I find the early rush items for Bruisers to typically be: item 3071 item 3068 item 3053

This in total costs 9100 gold, which is not too much for three completed items unless we are comparing to a Support. However, Bruisers are typically VERY different from each other, so the rush items are always different. I actually find this right here to be more general than your example though as Titanic Hydra is not bought on a decent many Bruisers. Trinity Force is also not a global purchase, albeit with more than Titanic. You basically just picked a ton of expensive items to prove a point if I am going to be honest. I can do that with almost any offensive class. Look:

Mage- item 3165 item 3089 item 3285 9900 Gold

ADC- item 3031 item 3072 item 3153 10500 Gold

Assassin- item 3147 item 3074 item 3156 9650 Gold

All have a ton of expensive starting paths if you really push for it by rushing all the most expensive items they have, even if they aren't the best to rush.
