I just have a thought for the item 1058 . Perhaps there is some balance of power gain mentality going on behind Riots pricing of the item. I am not opposed to it costing 1600 gold total, but there are times where you are saving gold for that item and thus end up with 1000+ gold in your pocket that you are not putting into items to increase your stats. My thought on this came into being upon reading the new patch notes on 5.2 and how item 1011 now builds out of item 1028 allowing you to invest a little bit of the gold into the item earlier. So would it be possible to make item 1058 build out of two items? item 1052 for 435 g and item 1026 for 860 g. So you spend 1295g on those two items allowing you to get your AP at a reliable pace and then upgrading to item 1058 for an additional 305 g.

I like it. If they want to be absolutely consistent, these will happen with every stat.

However, I think they really only wanted to do it with defensive stats, and that's okay with me. Gating access to high power damage items makes sense, but gating access to defense just exacerbates snowballs. So, good idea, I support it, but I think it's unlikely to happen.

the reason defense gets smooth build paths is because it is meant to be bought when you are losing lane, which therefore means you have less gold. You should only ever be getting offensive stats if you're even or ahead, which means you have more gold.

I also noticed the AD equivalent is similar. While I can accept that those that deal damage should be getting enough kills to pay for their items, if these expensive items were to be broken down... item 1038 could be item 1036 for 360g and item 1037 for 875g and the final upgrade would only cost 315g.

I guess I just noticed the AP one immediately because I tend to main AP supports, and supports don't get the kills or CS to let them pay for item 1058 very quickly
