Tahm Kench has the only one ability that makes him a support and is the most toxic part of his kit.

Devouring allies. He'd do just fine in mid/top/jungle without it. Instead he has a kalista-ult level ability as a non-ultimate ability, while being quite strong in every other field. The problem with devouring allies is that it saves Tahm's allies from the punishment otherwise unavoidable, caused by their gravest mistakes. We have Thresh's lantern, Kalista's ult that work similar, BUT:

There is a huge cd on Kalista's ult Now look at the Devour cd plus you don't have to do anything to be saved by Tahm. I'm seriously baffled as to why Riot can't understand such a simple thing. Tahm should NOT be a support.

Community wanted Riot to stop putting Champions with clear roles out Tahm Kench comes along and can fit in almost any role People are complaining about this

I'd say ungrateful community here. Also, that's not his only ability, that is bullcrap. He has a slow on his kit, great regen, and a displacement, as well as a quick travel spell that he can take an ally with. The rest of his kit would be a weak support, but it has some support qualities nonetheless.

He isn't a support, he's pretty garbage if you stick him there. He's a top laner, otherwise he's pretty useless. However, if you do take him support, compare him to alistar. Alistar has his heal as his one ability to make him a support, the others are cc and damage reduction. He has a malphite ult in Q/W combo on 14s cd give or take and they just made making the combo take no skill. Leona has 0 "support" abilities, it's all cc. Neither does brand or zyra, but they're considered supports. Believe me, I hate that the role has changed to what it is now, but you can't deny that is HAS changed. Tahm can be played support just as much as a trundle or poppy. He's not even that strong in support tbh.

The way it seems to me is that Tahm was more than likely a different role, but since they have a quota of having at least one role champion per year. Because as someone who does enjoy Tahm you are right in that he doesn't feel like a support. Little of his abilities actually have things that a support would need, but it just feels like they just changed little things, and give him something that could help as a support and called it a day!
