The "elo hell" creep.
Disclaimer: I am in Silver 5 this season as of right now, and the assumptions I am making in this thread are based off of the words of others higher up in elo.
I actually like the new dynamic queue. It has avoided large amounts of frustration in pregame chat, but that's about where it ends for most people. There are many issues that people have highlighted and had good discussions on, but today I want to focus on just one thing - the "elo hell" creep as I call it. This is the idea that elo hell has grown to be beyond Silver, to as high up as Platinum and maybe even Diamond.
In previous seasons, Bronze-Silver was considered by most to be elo hell. It was called this because it is often hard to climb, and hit or miss when it comes to what kind of people will be in the game. Often you find people who are toxic, feed, or simply don't know much about the game. Most of the time you just hoped that the enemy team would be the ones with those people on their team, but often the game was heavily populated with negative or unskilled players on both teams.
Elo boosting has become a real issue in this season. What often happens is a popular streamer/very talented League player will smurf and queue with one or two other good people and then some viewers/people of lower skill. Dynamic Queue attempts to put teams with equal pairings against each other. Two people duo queuing? It will try to make them go up against a duo queue. Teams of 5 are actually very likely to go against other teams of 5. However, let us think conceptually about a team of 5. There is no better option than being a team of 5 that is communicating through voice. No matter what happens, the worst that a team of 5 can go against is an equal matchup, before the skill factor. But often teams of 5 will end up going against groups of 3 or 4. What this means is that with the combined with the skill of the higher elo player that is smurfing and the fact that they are a team of 5, they have a higher than average chance of winning. This has made large number of people become "boosted" meaning they are higher elo than their skill level.
This is where elo hell can become a thing in higher ranks. People that aren't at an appropriate skill level are playing with/against very experienced players.
