Why does Lifesteal need to be so high that auto attackers can facetank with it?

I frankly do not understand why Lifesteal is as rewarding as it is. It's passive and persistent, with no timing or planning or interactivity required to make use of it. Auto-attacker champions can just facetank objectives or other players with enough of it. I'm curious why it can't be capped at a more reasonable "sustain without becoming unkillable" level. Catching an autoattcker who is low health alone, only for them to leech back over one-third of their HP and sustain through your ambush feels monumentally shitty to play against.

Because there's too much damage in the game. Lifesteal is useless when you only get two autos off before the enemy's combo lands and you go from 100 to 0... Unless those two autos get you a third of your bar or more back. Then it might actually save you.

So basically lifesteal is OP because all damage has been power crept to OP levels so lifesteal has to be similarly OP or it doesn't work.

Because this generally doesn't happen. That's the first reason and so with how lifesteal works, if something like that does happen it's because the player is that far ahead. If a champion is in a state where when they are low health, they get attacked and the player just simply facetanks all the damage and wins anyway, then they have so much advantage where, everything being equal, they would be winning regardless of the type of carry they are. Which is also a good reason why it should not be capped down like that because then in this situation it would be "Here a player got themselves far enough ahead and obtained so many advantages that anybody, any champion, could win this fight without even putting up any real effort but.... this time you were playing an autoattacker with lifesteal so you get to lose instead." That would be terrible and a self-evident sign that this hypothetical alteration needs to be changed.

Well, because if lifesteal isn't good enough to let you see your health go up at least as fast as it's going down in a fight, there's no point to it.

That aside lifesteal is pretty useless right now. Damage is so high that anybody who'd use lifesteal is just going to get bursted before they can heal off it anyway.
