Why Thunderlords is so popular

This is just a theory, but I believe thunderlord's decree is so popular right now because maybe you can actually SEE it doing something? It gives amazing visual feedback, Deathfire Touch doesn't, and neither does Fervor of Battle. Even Grasp of the Undying gives visual feedback!

That, or just because it does so much freakin' damage...

DFT does it too but the damage is so abysmal for a large part of champions that it makes you wonder if TLD is just less worse than that.

Like for my main, Xerath. His damage comes from a kit that is entirely AoE whith one exception that anyway doesn't make any noticeable damage, not to mention that if I get to stun some1 I can cast my Q and W fast enough to deliver a full combo and proct TDL, something that becomes a lot difficult if I don't have the safeness I need to be exposed.

So, TLD is only good if I am in early levels and not against an assassin while DFT becomes somewhat a treath if it's lategame and I got fed. Right now I have no advantage in picking one or the other because they both suck for me.

Sigh Lux problems too. E_E

Does her Q count as a single trget skill or as an AoE? I think the former, but overall yes I can see Lux and Ziggs suffer the same.

Her Q counts as multi-hit. not sure if that applies to dtf but it applies to rylais (Aka she gets reduced slow due to it being a multi-hit.)

Ziggs benefits from DFT due to E and a liandries on him. ._. but its weird. I liked DFT on ziggs due to the fact he's poke over burst. Lux though... omfg. Snare E ult That thunderlords proc with her. and syndra? (Syndra's ult will proc thunderlords alone, each orb counts as an additional hit.)

honestly its because its burst damage and most people will trade for thunderlords in a fight and then simply walk away. Its great for assassinations its great on just about every single carry in the game even supports like it for the extra trade damage. The fact of the matter its the only Keystone that adds direct damage to your trades more effectively then any other keystone.

it's because you cannot trade with somebody that has thunderlords in lane, meaning lost laning phase if you didnt pick thunderlords, and games aren't 50 minute stalemates anymore, so laning phase is really important

TLD is just the best choice for most classes. Want more damage? Pick TLD. Boom. And what do a lot of champions want? You guessed it, damage.

I think people just like seeing health bars disappear in an instant.

  1. Some other keystones are more situational (ex: Windspeaker is only good for support if you have a shield or heal in your kit), but you can hardly go wrong with more damage at any point of the game, for doing something you were naturally going to do

  2. TLD is highly accessible, being at the bottom of a tree filled with dmg AND utility options, so neither dmg dealers (be it AD or AP since the penetration masteries and dmg amplification aren't separated) nor supports are gimped by going for this keystone

  3. Other alternatives, for the most part, are/feel underwhelming, DFT "should" be the pick for mages, but it scales better with AD and gives reduced benefits from AoE, so... wtf...

Thunderlords is popular because it works with pretty much any champion.

Other Keystones are champion specific therefore used less.

It's popular because it's the best. Triggering it is trivial and it does more damage than any other keystone by a wide margin. The graphic has nothing to do with it.

Idk, I've always found it a little weak compared to the other damage options for Keystones. I think it's the Cunning tree as a whole being more attractive than just Thunderlord by itself as a keystone.
