Why am I seeing so many people attempting to use Taliyah as support today?

Its just as bad as it was on release (better read: worst role).

Please stop. There's very few ways she can interact with bot lane outside of W without blowing her entire mana pool. Her follow-up as support is extremely poor if she manages to land W, and it will often be to your detriment, barring ganks.

Because people are stupid and don't realize her mana costs are expensive as are her core items.

DraygenBiscuit2 votes

Well she has other areas of use, For example warding! Her passive works well for venturing from lane to lane and her ult was made for ganking! I do see where you are coming from, but I don't see why this is any worse than people who play Malphite sup.

Astôlfo2 votes

I mean Malph has a point and click slow thing as well as a teamfight-deciding ult.

Talia has a slow thing and team gank deciding ult....

Taliyah has no presense with her wall without building straight AP. Its pretty much just to cut people off as support.

Congrats, you have 2 useful abilities on very long CDs now. Both are very unreliable!

Yep essentially! Plus you are also fast near walls and can place Wards!

Um, okay, she ulted. Now what? All it does is just make a wall. Unless her team actually follows up on it, it's worthless. She's not going to have damage because she's support and gold-deprived.

I feel like you are trying to argue with me... But we don't disagree on anything so far lol... Also why are you down voting my comments, they are just as true as yours.

WoonStruck2 votes

~~I'm not downvoting though. ~~ Nvm, thought you quoted me. lol.

Yeah, she can ward a little more quickly than a couple of the other supports, but she's extremely unsafe in doing so still. No reliable self-peel.

Astôlfo1 votes

Um, no, I do disagree with you. Hooray, she can ward a little faster. Okay, so what? In-lane she's still garbage. And you're not going to be cutting people off with your ult because you're in lane and not coming down the river to block their path. And incorrect.

No you aren't lol. I said she can ward faster and you just agreed. You say in lane shes still garbage! I agree again. Any one with half a brain wont be playing Taliyah sup more than once anyway so I could totally see people trying to cut people off in the river or trying to block a team from getting dragon, resulting in Taliyah's immediate death lol. Everything I have said about Taliyah is a fact. I never said she was Viable or a good sup so I really don't see what your problem is, just chill out lol.

Oh. My apologies. I misinterpreted your initial post as you trying to justify Taliyah support. Sorry, I didn't realize you were just saying she was as bad as Malph sup.

And Malphite doesn't have this problem because?

Astôlfo2 votes

Because Malphite could get cheap AP like Scepter and still do massive damage and control with just his ult alone. His ult literally makes it braindead easy for his team to follow up. Taliyah's ult needs more work and precision to divide an enemy team apart. She also can't wall them off in lane since her wall would just fire parallel to the lane.

WoonStruck2 votes

Malph support has 2 debuffs he can reliably apply, as well as a self-buff for tankiness. He can also withstand poke with his passive, and has his godlike ultimate.

And he's still a pretty poor support, if that tells you anything about how horrible Taliyah support is.

CeexSett2 votes

If i had to choose, I would prefer Malphite over Talliyah support every day. Malphite has base damages, better CC/utility, the point and click knockup and can still get semi tanky with a support's gold, while Tallyiah will just be starved and be a wall-bot.

Its because people got the idea that utility lacking 'supports' like Veigar and Lux are viable. (THEY AREN'T.) So now the cancer is spreading.

Seriously though, they should have just jungled them.

They are though. lux has a snare and slow for peel and veigar does high damage throughout the game because of his passive.

Requiemsfire1 votes

He still has to build items to be effective otherwise the enemy team completely shuts him down by building item 3105 and your damage will be pretty low because you're not stacking ap on minions either.

WoonStruck1 votes

Lux is a viable support, just not anywhere near optimal.

She's too 'fair' to be a great pick.

She has reliable self-peel in her Q, as well as her Q having pick potential. She also has a big AoE slow that's getting a pretty big buff, and finally an AoE shield.

Not the best, but at least usable. Veigar though is pretty bad barring extreme circumstances in his favor.

It also has the potential to be completely useless for your ADC, being down more than pokemon go release servers.

Lux has no viable utility, because she can't prevent the most obvious source of damage. Lux =/= support.

As a support main, this is what I have to say, they can support, they can do well, but there are much better, more reliable choices. Those champions don't scale particularly well without building items whereas most supports have high base damage on top of moderate scalings causing them to inherently be a feast or famine champion by nature. Because items such as item 3105 it makes it even harder for champions with low base damages to support with no gold because they also have to build magic pen on top of ap to stay effective and we all know it costs a lot of gold to pull off.

What happens when you're losing lane? Can you consistently protect your ADC or will you just be curb stomped due to the inconsistency of your abilities landing?

moonborn2 votes

it is really very similar to Zyra Velkoz supports. is it better? obviously not. but has it's own strengths. too many people say "you wont be doing damage because you are support", which is false. Yes you are dealing lower damage because of level disadvantage + less AP. But you are not competing against their midlaner, you are competing against their janna or something, and you are dealing for sure more damage than their Janna. A lot of off-meta supports really could work well, but people don't give it a try

Handy Sandy 1 votes

Well she could single someone out and push them towards her team so they can die :V

WoonStruck2 votes

Trundle support is better in just about every way.

DarkRitual2 votes

Taliyah is best support for when you like VO lines though!

DarkRitual1 votes

She gives a lot of poke and harass. If you have good cc in rest of team, she can work well through the game.

WoonStruck2 votes

So many other champions do it so much better, and aren't nearly as unreliable.

Even if everything is in Taliyah's favor, she's still near the bottom of supports as far as impact and reliability.

Its pretty much never good. You are holding your team back by picking her with the intent to go support. Any game where you are even or behind, you will pretty much lose unless you get carried to the point where your champion is a nonfactor.

DarkRitual1 votes

In the current meta, I agree she's not a good support choice. Too much bulk in the front line. In single-tank-teams, she is more able to do stuff, but again the rest of your team needs to be built with the lack of hard cc from her in mind.

Amelie1 votes

Taliyah doesn't have to be top-of-the-line to be a viable support. Her zone control and CC is enough to make her possible to play there. She can use her ult to trap people under her turret, or block them from escaping to their own, making for great ganks. Later she can use the wall to block people away from/into dragon or baron, or to split up the enemy team. The relentless poke and zoning during laning is excellent with someone like Caitlyn, for example.

I will say that you need significant knowledge to play her, and she doesn't work in every composition, so you will probably see a lot of failed attempts at support.

AliceFelis1 votes

She can be really good as a support(in my experience) especially if there's no blitzcrank(I find it hard if there is one since her Q can't go through minions) The adc just needs to be slightly more careful and pay attention to the poke. When me anD my friend (who plays jihn) go bot we almost always dominate. I'll just poke them down with my Q and throw them through my rocks towards him so he can get the last couple hits.

Probably because she has a skill called "Screw you Yasuo."

Thing is that E doesn't do enough rip damage and it wouldn't do much to the tank build.
