A huge disparity between players that play for fun, and those that don't

So lately I've been seeing in my matches that there are a huge disparity between players that are playing just for fun, and other players that play for real and have fun when they play against challenging opponents in correlation with teammates that also try hard.

I really want to push for ranked games to decay points AND ranks for those who are not active in them to alleviate this disparity between players. You cannot have balanced matchmaking with a pool of players that don't play enough to achieve active stats.

Player 1 Here is an example of a player that plays for fun, he will queue up arams on his spare time and hop onto a ranked match probably once every two weeks just to see what it's like. This is where we see players that go through placements, land gold and above, and are content with a game here and there. This is already leaving Player 1, his teammates and the enemy team with a scenario that is doomed for failure, toxicity and overall a bad gaming experience.

Sure I understand that playing blind pick, arams and flex queue with the buddies is FUN, but when ranks aren't decaying and players are "away" from the try-hard scene this tends to leave teammates with a bad taste in their mouth when they lose. With the only option left is complaining and toxicity.

Player 2 Here is a player that plays STRICTLY ranked, as I explained earlier this player is playing to seek a challenge and have fun from displaying how good he is at the game. This player will usually "try" to correct Player 1, but turns out that Player 1 already knows the situation and takes offense to it.

Most cases Player 1 will legitimately play to lose, just to provoke Player 2 and everyone else that is against him, goes straight to all chat and goes, "Report Player 2, toxic' over a simple comment as "Hey Player 1, play safe or under tower.. you're feeding".

So what can be done about the two different playstyles in league of legends to prevent this? My proposed idea was to simply increase how quick players decay in ranked, because right now the fewer games players have.. the more frustration there will be.

I have 210W 208L in solo queue ranked, and even now I feel like I should have more games played. And it's urking when I play a different role, there will always be Player 1 with 40W / 40L that really shouldn't be here.

Generally the stereotypes aren't that clear cut as generally everyone does a bit of both in a 1:4 ratio, and we see the reverse problem of ultra-try-hard-mode players grinding norms to improve, and flaming everyone around them relentlessly if a teammate happens to feed, don't give them blue/red which is apparently their birthright, tax after a gank in which the jungle didn't get the kill, fail to smite steal baron/dragon, lose their tower or secure CS the try hard would never have gotten/had no right to.

I feel this is interpretation purely based on your experience. Generally player 1 doesn't play to lose, they simply don't care about the result. Generally this is more tilted player 2 behavior because player 1 generally doesn't give enough shits to be capable of tilting (you tilt because you're invested and said investment isn't going to plan, with nothing invested there's nothing to tilt over).

From there Increasing decay won't solve the problem, it will simply make it someone else's problem. Which isn't a good way to go about it. Because not only do the lower elo players have to deal with a potential troll (shifting the burden of carrying onto players who are less likely to carry), but the opponents have to deal with a player who will potentially stomp their faces into the dirt and steal their cake to.

And given you speak of gold elo, which you appear to be in there's little point in "increase how quick players decay". Because in gold elo and below, there is no ranked decay. The solution to your current issue is simple, get to plat. As opposed to punishing others and making the more casual ranked base (generally low elo) simply for existing

Hi. According to your definition, I'm player 1. I've recently done my placement match to get the end season rewards. I've a good amount of ARAM games and spent lot of time in Nexus Blitz. My main mode is "normal draft" but here's the thing... my fun goes through tryharding too. Ranked games doesn't provide me the experience that I'm looking for as it's pure garbage : smurfs, boosted, flamers and afk. Normal are less tilting which makes toxicty less occurent or non-existent at all. Also, it makes no sense to smurfs and to be boosted in normal.

Your consider player 1, who I am according to your definition, as a deadweight for his team yet here's the thing : I'm playing agains't Platinium and even diamonds midlane in normal, yet in ranked i'm G5 (playin agains't low plat and high golds). I ended up with a sweet 70% winrate during my placement. I'm still playing a lot but not in ranked.

Even though, there isn't any visible MMR or tier in normal, it follows the same MMR mechanics than ranked. And no... ppl in normal are not less performing in normal than in rankeds as they still care about the end result... they just don't tilt nearly as much as there's less ego-directed consequences. I've done my share of ranked games from season 2 to season 5 but I'm over it... It doesn't interest me anymore. I haven't even ranked at all during s6 and s7.

Yes ppl are playing champions they don't know how in normals and end up feeding or being underperforming but rankeds are not different on that point.

I'll be playing more ranked next season as I'll be forced to get rewards but that's it.

TL;DR The fact of spaming ranked doens't mean anything and doesn't reflect at all the "skill" or the "tryhard sensitivity" of a player.

This is kinda true i have decent amount of smurf accounts and all are gold 4/5 since i just want rewards on all accounts and im sad to say that i meet a lot of this players that just dont care about wining games and when you try to tell them to at least try to play safe and better they start to provoke me and if i say that im higher rank than that one than they start to be even worse and they are never being grateful when some one carries them and tries to win that damn game so he can get lp and not lose it since they dont care about wining if they lose they lost lp they dont care but they lost mine lp too since im stuck with them in a team, i made post about LP gain system and how it impact game it has connections to this topic so you can check it and tell me your thoughts on it.

Why would i be mad some one not playing as good as me that has 0 logic to me, did i say so? hmm? I think there i difference playing bad and rly not giving a damn if you gona lose or win, its still a ranked game and its called ranked for a reason its place where people should try their best and work as team not argue and refuse to take advices.

Implementing and accelerating delay for all ranks would vastly improve the quality of ranked life. The amount of boosted, boosters, wintrading, and 'casuals' in ranked is all insanely high right now which is why Riot is having such trouble keeping up the population numbers on NA. However this has been a problem since I started playing the game, and nothing has been done about it. So I suggest you just stop playing ranked or the game altogether if you want to have fun or to 'express how good you are', this game is nothing but a coin flip.

I'd say your poll is flawed since it'll attract more hardcore gamers than anyone; but a well thought-out article overall. Sadly this problem has only gotten worse since season two, when riot started focusing on becoming an esport, drawing in those hyper-competitive players from other game genres; and eventually eroding the positive atmosphere this game's community used to have.
