Considering I was bronze/low silver and playing
in about 80% of my games when
was released I thought he was plenty OP at the time. Even nowadays my low mmr friends consider him the derp-easy-mode champ for winning skirmishes.
Personally I think Darius' ult should be a mix of
and
ults. It would make way more sense with his overall identity as a playable character and really cement his pick as your team's tank front-line, leading the charge (not to mention how much better it would match his lore).
Currently, Guillotine only works as a dueling threat or encourages players to use it as an execute. This just ruins him for competitive play (should not be feeding your tank the kills in 90% of situations and getting the most out of his ult takes multiple abilities/autos to set up).
IMO the original true damage ult,
makes much more sense. When used as an execute it makes him better at his main role, tanky frontline. When you've capped this bonus it still has a place in the late-game by helping chunk down the enemy tank or a help soften up a target to burst them down.
With Darius' current ult, if you don't use it as an execute you're using it wrong, wasting tons of potential damage, and heavily conflicts with his primary role in the game, tanky sustained-damage frontline who pulls agro by being an AoE burn threat.
Just like
and
.
Sadly if they ever do anything resembling a rework on him, his ult is probably the thing that won't get more than a few number changes just because of the popularity of his "dunk persona".
