Can we talk about skill FLOOR vs skill CEILING.
I see this a lot and it's starting to get really annoying. IDK if it's just bias or if people truly are that oblivious to the two terms, what they mean, and how they apply to champs.
First off let me address the who thing of people saying "there's no such thing as a no skill champion". That's not entirely true. Every champion takes skill and some more than others.
Ok now to what I want to talk about. From my understand it goes like this.
Skill Floor: I don't know how to put it into words exactly, but the pretty much the difficulty to play a champion at a basic level.
Skill ceiling: The skill and knowledge required to maximize the potential of a champion.
Let's bring up an example.
In theory she's not difficult. her skill FLOOR is pretty low, but her skill CEILING is pretty high. Basically in order to maximize her potential, you need to be an expert mechanically.
Now let's bring up someone who has a low skill floor and skill ceiling.
. I chose him because his abilities are all point and click except his ult. Basically you press an ability and click on an enemy and it's very simple.
A champion that I personally believe has a high skill floor and skill ceiling is
. I chose her because of quite a few reasons.
- You need to know the position of your enemy.
- You need to pay attention to your own positioning.
- You need to be quick, ready to react, and good at guessing where your enemy is going to be in the next 2 seconds so that you can land her condemn effectively.
- Her AA range is quite small making her susceptible to quite a few ADCs with more AA range.
- In a group of enemies, being able to tumble, auto attack, tumble, auto attack to get multi kills takes a lot of knowledge of both positioning and the abilties of your opponent. Like for example if 3 of the enemy are tanks with cc, you'll have to take that into account.
That's why when I see someone say something as biased as "Your champ takes no skill, you just AA". I kind of have to smile, laugh IRL and say oh how little you know.
One time I got in this argument with this veigar that I tried to convince that vayne was hard to play. He said "You're an ADC, you just AA". I told him "If you think vayne is easy to play, then I want to see you play her" He said "silly I don't own vayne" So I told him "Than don't say she's easy to play"
And that is also why I get so fired up when someone says "oh yeah that champ, he/she is easy to play". And for the most part there are a lot of champs that are "Easy to play" at a basic level, but still they have a lot of potential to play at a more advanced level.
To conclude I urge you to if you haven't already to realize who your flaming when you're playing a game. Look at the circumstances, such as who the player is up against and what that means. Like for example if I'm playing
mid, I'm probably most likely going to lose to a
mid and I really don't need the toxicity of players so naive.
