Gunblade- Should It Be a Hybrid Item?

I just find it strange that Gunblade is a hybrid item since it only makes the item awkward to buy on many who would like it. Sure, you could argue it is for hybrid champions, but I think if the stats were rebalanced to be entirely AP (or AD, but then it becomes too much like Death's Dance), then it would likely benefit them about the same as before. So, why not rebalance Gunblade to be entirely AP and not feel really weird to buy on a lot of casters who would like to buy it?
