I understand Galio in premade teams and flex comps is really extremely good, but the removal of the defensive "Stop-villain-I-will-not-let-you-terrorize-this-poor-citizen" heroic part is not going to cut it.
Can we possibly just have something like a small shield that then goes to Galio after he lands?

Thematically? Yes there should be a sheild. I mean I dont know why it had damage reduction in the first place. It was invisible to your allies and enemies, which made it kinda underwhelming. It should always have been a sheild on the person he targetted.

It still has an AOE. knockup/lower range than Shen ult to differentiate it.
In the end damage reduction is basically just an invisible shield, so I don't see the difference to begin with anyway. Shen's shield also becomes gigantic the lower health ur ally is, something galios potential sheild would lack.
Although, damage reduction is better when ur ally is full hp, and worse when ur ally is low hp, so his sheild could just be like, sheild ur ally for a % of their current HP.
But yeh, doesn't matter, since riot decided to remove that strength from galio and compensate in other areas.

It was 
Ult plus 
Ult with hard CC. Being large range damage reduction, AOE damage, AOE knockup, and a mini teleport all in one. Again something had to be removed.
I do think it’s too weak now though, maybe revert the cooldown nerfs way back when or increase its early range.
