A question regarding Rakan's dashes. (Also Minirant on Rakan Laning)
So something that I've found really strange while playing Rakan has been the interactions between his dashes (E and W) and Crowd Control. Now in the case of most dashes, the general rule has been that unless the CC type has some form of displacement or knockup to it to override it, the dash generally completes and then the CC completes. For Rakan however this seems to not be the case, which given his gameplay style and aggression patterns, really confuses me.
Rakan lives and dies by his mobility, as he's a relatively squishy support whose main playstyle is relatively hit and run (literally). While playing Rakan I've noticed that Roots especially have been cutting my dashes short immediately, and unless something changed about dash functionality, seems to be fairly unique, and particularly effective against Rakan because of this. It not only gimps his potential damage/support by stopping him from triggering his Damage/Shielding, but shuts down any positional change that Rakan was going for, In the case of W it nullifies the whole use of the thing, removing its (Damage/CC/Movement) entirely, which would be fine if his power budget weren't locked so hard into his W and R. Any effect that gimps his movement via W and E innately has the effect of rendering his R useless as well, since the entirety of its usefulness is point blank.
Now give or take, a dead stop on his W isn't always the worst thing in the world as it keeps him from being that much closer if he's going for a Raw W, since as I recall the root stops the CC portion of his W from completing as well, but the overall issue comes precisely from the limited mobility of his ultimate. Overall I think Rakan has much greater issues with his laning phase than just his dashes being gimped (Such as the positional disadvantage of Point blank requirements for support) (Incredibly punishing early CDs and tbh Confusing and competing skill leveling) (etc), but overall I think this is one of the more confusing points for me to ponder over regarding our feathered friend. That is unless I just missed a major change to dash mechanics as a whole which allows them to be stopped mid-dash by Hard CC effects.
For the record though, I think Rakan's mid-late game honestly isn't that bad since his R>W sets up really strong plays and his lackluster laning isn't a problem once teamfighting begins. His laning phase is really my biggest issue with him because I really don't feel like Rakan has any particularly 'good' matchups. His sustain is harder to obtain and isn't as potent as other sustain champions, because his sustain is less consistent he's much more vulnerable to poke than a sustain champion should be. His vulnerability to CC combined with his delays and squishy nature makes him one bad call away from being a CC tank's dinner. Since his sustain requires him to basically kiss his teammate, he's super vulnerable to zoning since effects that endanger his carry may require him to wait out a form of CC, or place himself and even his carry in disadvantageous positions just to get the basic aspects of his more Enchanter inspired elements in his kit off. Rakan is a really fun champion outside of lane, but I just feel like overall his laning phase is just too dangerous, but then again, maybe I'm just bad.
