Things to know before complaining about 10 bans and Item Sets

Eedat··59 votes·2,084 views

First, it was not even possible to implement 10 bans until the old legacy client that didnt support it was retired. People dont seem to understand this. The Legacy client did not support the new 10 ban system. Now that it's finally being retired across all servers, they can just now implement it. Calm down. They weren't just holding back on us for no reason.

Second, Riot has already said the Item set creator will be back very soon

FIRST, we've finally got a date for the return of the Item Set Creator Tool. We're now aiming to bring the feature (which lets you edit item sets from the client without using a third party tool) to the PBE with patch 7.10. Barring any problems, it will then come to live servers soon after. We'll update you in the patch notes if anything happens to delay the tool's release further. Check the FAQ below for more details.

PSA : Item Sets are enabled on the PBE right now, so we might get them next patch.

There used to be only 4 total bans. It was increased to 6. There's no way you can sit there and tell us Riot couldn't have increased that to 10.

As for item sets, there is no excuse to not already have item sets working in the new client before it was forced onto everyone.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Their excuse was that they weren't going to reimplement them before the backlash made them reconsider.

I don't know why they'd bother scrapping them in the first place (since many of the default item recommendations suck), but they wanted to.

Glory ln Death9 votes

Their data showed that very few people actually used them, so it didn't seem worth it to keep them. However, they found out that a lot of people do actually use them, they just don't need to use the creator often, so it seems as though it goes unused.

Conalll2 votes

If that's the case, I can understand how their numbers were off. I know many have an item set for each champ, but I'd be willing to bet many are like me. Their items sets are more general to help them find what they want fast. For example; I just have three sets "AD" "AP" and "support. Then those are further sorted into the role/need each item serves. "MR" "Armor" "Lifesteal" "Crit" and so on. So I don't use the tool much at all because it's only used when items are changed so that they fit a different section, or new items are added (I.E. every mid and preseason update). If that's how they got their numbers, then no wonder they were super low.

TimX24968B1 votes

not to mention, making an item set was more of a one time thing, unless a new item came out or you needed to fix something, you didn't constantly come back to it.

RainbowIcee1 votes

This ^ that statement made no fucking sense. Like at all. It's just denying access which is a pretty damn low resource feature. The fact that the client can run the start up of the game animation and background music already indicates you can support banning every single champ available in every moba ever made on that old client.

Nickssaa6 votes

The legacy client did SUPPORT 10 bans, but Riot did not want to implement it because there was no point. Why spend time implementing 10 bans when it will be retired in a few months anyway?

Jbels5 votes

I understand the Legacy client was limited, but it's frustrating that I went from getting a solid 50 to 55 FPS consistently to being thrown down to 24-30 FPS for the majority of the game (IE; Whenever I'm NOT in base).

This new client is a good step forward, but in other aspects it is a large step backwards. It was definitely rushed, and it definitely needed more time before it was ready to completely replace the legacy client

Eedat21 votes

You need to check these two boxes

http://imgur.com/uRcVWp9

If you still have in game issues after that, it has absolutely nothing to do with the client

junglerboy164 votes

I have both of those checked and in game my FPS is still averaging 35-40 when it's good, usually dropping into the low teens during larger fights.

It's definitely the client's issue, as well, because my computer run much more intensive games at full 60 FPS no problem.

Eedat9 votes

Its not. How could it possibly be the client when the client closes during the match?

junglerboy162 votes

I'm dumb.

That said, it has something to do with the new client, if only indirectly because the FPS drop only happened after the switch, and like I said it a league thing, not my computer.

I don't have a good explanation for it (maybe the client doesn't correctly close out? idk) but it's an issue nonetheless.

DeathBot6661 votes

Maybe your hardware in the computer is just getting old and slowing down.

junglerboy162 votes

it's only 3 years old for the oldest stuff in it, everything else is fine. I still load faster than most other players, and have better ping and internet, fps is just lousy.

DarkRitual4 votes

Windows 10 updates have been notorious for messing with fps in games.

junglerboy162 votes

Not that either, this just started, haven't had and OS updates that would change anything, and like I said, just league is having issues now.

Strange..

If I can run league on a macbook air better then you can...

Well

Sucks.

what are your specs?

Mysticman892 votes

There shouldn't be any in-game differences resulting from the client change over (as they both result in the same game), and there pretty much 100% shouldn't be if you have it set to close the client when the game is running (if anything, new client should be slightly faster since you can have the client closed while in-game, in the old one I don't think that option existed). The client changes could cause problems when navigating the menus (loot, store, etc.) and more crucially in champ select so there are reasons to complain if you're accidentally dodging due to the client impacting your ability to pick/ban, but once you load into the game, it's literally the same independent of client.

There may have been other issues that showed up around the same time as the new client which people blame on the client despite being unrelated, so that might give the new client a worse rap than it actually deserves. (Theres probably also a variety of people who should be using low spec mode, but don't realise it even exists.)

Well, if the new client has got more shit going in the background, (or the same shit, but not managed as well) That could be the issue.

You can't just keep saying that the client CAN'T cause issues with those boxes clicked, because clearly, they are.

Be it for high end or low end machines, the new client is poorly optimized and slowing down hardware because it's backround stuff is either too much, or badly handled.

EDIT: And this is the League Client and Riot we're talking about, this would hardly be the first time they tried to make something that was obsolete, better, and only made the situation worse for a large number of people.

When you check the second box, the client will literally quit while the game is running. The process isn't even running on your computer. You can't improve performance any more than that. If there were fps issues that popped up recently, it was the result of an in-game change, not the client.

Are you serious? It's literally been months when Riot started updating the client and then the gradual testing/server roll-out has been done in phases to ensure the testing could be controlled and any major problems intercepted before they affect so many players. Riot covered their basses pretty heavily with this one and this is one of the reasons why the client update has been this slow to begin with.

And it's understandable that it was, updating the client is no small task.

Oh, boi, white-knighting again.

What exactly stopped them from preparing and coding 10 bans BEFORE forcing the "updated" client down everybody's throats? Don't bullshit me "Legacy client hurr durr", because it was going to be retired the moment new client became mandatory. Same with item sets "maybeh laytur".

What is this early access?

It's like the lore retcon when first they basically discontinued the lore and then officially wiped out everything from existence leaving a gapping wound for years to come, which only recently they began mending.

DarkRitual2 votes

They didn't want to waste time coding it for something that wouldn't be supported anymore. Once the updated client got moved out of beta, the legacy client was obsolete, and any time spent on non-critical issues was just a waste of resources.

Sraeg20131 votes

With all due respect, but did you even read my comment before responding?

DarkRitual1 votes

With all due respect, yes and no.

Having reread it, I now have a greater understanding of your question.

What Riot has stated in the past about the legacy client, is mostly that is was a huge pain in the ass to code for, and often many new features only caused more things to break, causing more issues and resources. This is one of the main reasons they chose to make the new client in the first place.

Sraeg20131 votes

Close, but you are still missing the point.

The new client has been in development for how long? Why do they only now, after making it mandatory for everybody, starting to think about implementing 10 bans? Why couldn't they simply not "release" it at this moment and add this feature, especially since there are still ongoing performance problems with the new client? Why it was released without adding all features community wanted and Riot agreed on, if they can suddenly do it in a matter of a month or two?

I mean postponing the release of a new GAME could have serious consequences, but for all intends and purposes this is just a mundane patch. Why so hell-bent on going through with it?

TimX24968B2 votes

sir, thats called "ignorance for their coding team"

Sraeg20131 votes

So basically "don't blame nameless grunts, blame the leadership"?

Not like I wasn't doing that already.

TimX24968B2 votes

no, I meant "have some respect and understanding for riot." A game like this takes alot more into consideration than you or I would think.

No way man, if they did that, it would have delayed the new client even further. A feature they would have had to re implement on the new client anyways.

Sraeg20131 votes

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, they had to rebuild it from scratch ANYWAY.

And not delaying it only makes sense if they got profit out of it, which I'm sure is not the case (unless Tencent told them something like "do it ASAP for a bonus").

Sqkerg1 votes

How do you get up in the morning having that much of a pessimistic outlook?

They won't do things that are a waste of their time, creating two versions of the 10 ban system when one of them was going to be retired in a few months makes absolutely no sense. And as to why they didn't "pre-code" it, they actually said that their strategy going forward would be to get the base systems (the new client in this case) onto live asap, then add on other things like item sets and 10 bans.

P.S. adding things like "hurr durr", and "maybeh latur", as if it somehow takes away from the argument just because you make it sound stupid, doesn't add to a discussion, and in fact, just makes you come off as emotional, and frankly, a bit of an asshole.

I wake up with a headache. But that may just be the pillow.

Ugh... Really? REALLY?!

Here. My post. Read it.

Translation: "10 bans could be already coded and only turned on when everybody updated from the old client."

I completely understand that coding it for the legacy client would be a waste, but when have I even implied they should do it anyway?

Hint #1: I never did. Hint #2: I actually stated the opposite.

P.S. adding things like "hurr durr", and "maybeh latur",

Except "maybe later" was their most used excuse since dynamic queue.

But it's ok because the new client is awesome.

They can't even add a dedicated announcer to a game mode properly and we have to suffer the Dark Star one in SR.

Riot making leaps and bounds, lol.

You don't have to "suffer" anything when the announcer is 100% optional and you can disable it whenever you want. Oh wait you are here just to complain about something that doesn't even exist.

can I complain about the skin selection, Or the post game lag? or the friends list? those are all problems I have too that the old client didn't have.
