Why doesn't Cleanse work against suppressions?

I don't understand why summoner 1 doesn't work against suppression. It clearly states "Removes all disables and summoner spell debuffs affecting your champion and lowers the duration of incoming disables by 65% for 3 seconds."

Why doesn't it work on suppressions then when item 3140 does? Can someone explain?

Back when it did, champions with suppressions were hard countered by taking a summoner spell.

QSS however, is more expensive overall to get, both in gold, time, and slot efficiency.

This gives players with suppressions period in which they have some of the most powerful ultimates 1v1, while still giving a method to fight against them. Additionally, it doesn't make their ultimates useless as they use them on people without QSS or wait until they've been used on weaker forms of CC and disables.

QSS gives timing windows for playing with and against suppressions. Cleanse gives shallower windows and tends to make suppression champions unplayable if it removed their ultimates.

why would you think it's okay to completely negate a champions ultimate by choosing a summoner spell? you automatically win the lane unless the jg helps them

Not seeing how Fizz and Mordekaiser fit there. Can't cleanse either of their ults.

tbh not sure about Morde, but cleanse causes Fizz's ult to detach from you and stays where it is on the ground

Morde's ult isn't a CC, just a debuff, so it can't be removed (unless you get a QSS of course).

As for Fizz's ult, cleanse actually doesn't make his fish drop, or at least it didn't last year (the last time I personally say someone try). Fizz's ult is considered a debuff and not a disable until the knockup hits. QSS will cause the fish to drop, but cleanse won't, unless they've changed that pretty recently.

The main difference between all of those (except morde) is that With Malz and WW, if you cleanse out of it you remove all of the damage of the ulti b/c of it.

Honestly, just play GP, he can orange out of literally ANY cc.

Suppression specifically prevents the target from using any Summoner Spells, so you can't actually cast Cleanse while suppressed.

Note that it and Stasis are the only CC effects which specifically prevent the use of all Summoner Spells.

Note that it is the only CC to specifically mention this (with the exception of stasis).

That makes a lot of sense. I guess that wraps that up, then. If you could use cleanse while being malz ulted, then that means you could ignite or heal so I guess I don't see why cleanse should get special treatment

Eedat1 votes

That doesnt make sense. You can't use those summoner spells while stunned either, but you can use Cleanse

Sightless661 votes

Yes you can. You can use any summoner spells except flash and teleport while stunned, silenced, knocked up, whatever.

Eedat2 votes

Yeah, the same way you can't press Flash when your stunned.

Ok, so if you can't use summoner 1, but you can use item 3140, then why can't you use item 3157 when you're suppressed? Obviously you can use items under suppression then right? It doesn't say that you can't if we're looking at the definition.

My point is the definitions don't make sense. For example, Cleanse specifically says removes ALL disables. ALL.

suppress is a debuff, it doesn't count as a disable.

suppress IS a disable

Vesarixx1 votes

Olaf ult removes suppress as well as GP oranges, and Alistar ult

aaronautumn1 votes

because those abilities remove debuffs.

Vesarixx1 votes

Olaf and Alistar ult only remove disables not debuffs, they won't do anything vs deathmark or diminuendo which are debuffs, but they will remove hyper kinetic position reversal, infinite duress or nether grasp because these are all disables.

just checked and remove scurvy doesn't affect debuffs either.

Sightless664 votes

Seems like a good argument for cleaning up cleanse's tooltip so it doesn't say all disables anymore. I'd be in favor of that.

Because you can't use summoner spells when you're suppressed.
