The Galio situation.

I just want to know how a champion like Galio gets nerfed to 42% winrate in solo lane over multiple hard nerfs and indirect nerfs back to back for being OP for 1 patch then left in this unplayable state without being disabled from ranked as a int pick and straight up intentionally ignored.

Meanwhile some champion like lux go over 4 patch with a 54+ % winrate pick ban in competitive every region and apparently its totally ok for her to be broken??

I dont get it how is that not bias toward a type of champion? lux is a high revenue champion so she gets to be broken? meanwhile galio doesnt make as much money so he gets to be unplayable?? wheres the actual attempt to balance him in solo Q instead of just giving him 100% more damage or 100% less damage each attempts and wondering why he becomes too good??

Top Galio's Worldwide 47.06% Win Rate HOW IS THAT OK???

that champ should be straight hotfixed or disabled from ranked???

Galio is balanced for pro play and Lux isn't

Galio's ult and taunt flash are just too huge in a competitive game were you have comms with a team

If you look on Champion.gg or Lolalytics I'm sure there are some set ups and matchups where he wins really hard, an overall 42% winrate doesn't mean he's trash all the time

The history of reworked Galio as I remember it is this:

Galio is supposed to be an AP/tank ("HUHOH IM A MAGIC ABSORBING COLOSSUS" or w/e he says) toplane pick that counters AP toplaners. An AP Bruiser. If you remember when the rework dropped he had really good waveclear and his ult was really strong, and he instantly became the premier counterpick to Rumble top in S7 pro play.

Eventually he got nerfed, his waveclear was hit really hard, his ult got botched and he was left in the gutter

Then they tried to revive him as an AP bruiser by increasing his ratios. This had the intention of incentivising him to build one or two damage items and then going full tank, an AP bruiser. The problem with Galio was that if you get your taunt off, your whole damage combo is guaranteed. This meant people built him as a glass cannon, and Riot nerfed him.

Then they compensated him with his ult, and he returned to pro play, so his ult got nerfed again, and I think at this point Riot has given up

Like they could just add a slight delay to his W taunt to allow for some counterplay to the W flash, or make it so that his ally only gets defence stats if they stay in the middle of his R, or give him diminishing returns to AP (so one or two items are really good but stacking AP becomes a lot less rewarding in terms of damage, but maybe then you get triple pen and abyssal mask OP) give his Q more damage to champions and a slightly smaller collision hitbox... just ideas

Galio should lean on the tanky side and do reasonable damage if he builds for it, a true AP bruiser. He's sadly left in an increidbly shitty state where if you don't build full tank and become cc bot, he's useless.

Ironically enough, all the nerfs have not affected his support status and he's as a strong as ever in the role. Stay with me here; his poke is still strong on Q, his taunt and dash are cc staples, and you can easily build him full tank and go where you please.

His ult is still pretty useless other than for disrupting enemy team fights, but you can easily add the shield back on with item 3190 when you land and have some clutch saves. Couple all that with Aftershock, which is balanced for pure tanks now, and he hasn't been affected by the nerfs in a support role.

The absolute best two items on him currently are item 3110-or-item 3025 and item 3001 . Tied with the hp and wards from item 3069 /item 3401 and whatever defensive boots you get early on, plus all that CDR makes for one spammy, unkillable, support that has map control and ultimate team fight control with taunt. His Q, as it stands, also does some %hp damage which can finish off most squishies and wittle down tankier champs alike. That core item build covers all bases and leaves room for any situational item.

He counters every match up too.

Facing lots of sustain? item 3076 / item 3075 synergizes with your taunt and applies Grievous Wounds

Getting CC'd too much? item 3102 not a single bad stat for Galio coupled with item 3111

Facing some tough burst damage? item 3053 or item 3190 The former adds to your passive a bit and the only questionable stat is the AD, which will buff your passive a bit so it's not totally wasted, and the latter buffs the whole team!

Enemy Team on the defensive and you're team is ahead? item 3165 /item 3116 /item 3151/item 3905 /item 3030 provides damage and HP vs all sorts of champions and provide secondary buffs/debuffs that are helpful even if enemy builds some MR to mitigate you.

Need some split pushing action and can't clear waves with just Q anymore? item 3068 gets the job done believe it or not without sacrificing your tank stats.

Just get that core of item 3069 /item 3401, item 3110-or-item 3025 and item 3001 and your relevant boots and you can pretty much go any route from there and not ever be useless.

I had some elborate post i was gonna put here about how riot likes to keep squishier champs stronger to encourge flashier plays from divers/assassins in LCS, but i'm just gonna say, riot doesn't like champs like galio so they don't let them be strong

Or maybe riot should just accept that if they make a champion perfect for competitive play they shouldn't turn around and be all pikachu face that the champ is good in fuckin competitive play.

They either need to make serious changes to his kit or just accept that he is a good pro play champ. I don't see sivir gutted and reworked because she is picked every single game in comp play. Or how vayne is STILL picked in comp since they overbuffed her. Fuckin vayne should NEVER be played in competitive.

But i feel you. ONe of my favorite champions (swain) got reworked into something absolutely different, with pro play in mind who turned out to be too good in pro play and now he is just left to rot. Great fuckin rework riot games. Was so hype to see old swain picked in pro play by betsy and as a pocket pick of some others. Now? Unplayable trash that isn't even fun to play and gets ignored for over a year because noone plays him anymore.

You can only recommend people to play riots favorite they never have to worry about being weak or getting reworked even if they make the game a living hell for others.

Lux is just doing things she has always done. There is just safety nets that help her weakness. Making her a very solid champion. So I think they should just change the tools so mages dont benefit from.

When it came to Galio. Galio would become a champion where he had didn't even need the safety nets. He just did a bunch of damage, absolutely tanky. Glorious amount of CC while having psedo Global presence.
