Instead of Chrysalis can we just get Legendary Guardian back?

i understand the idea behind the new rune, giving mid and lategame scaling champions like Fiora the ability to grab 60 extra healh at level 1 to hold them over to their item power spikes, and that the health transforms into more useful ad or ap later on.

but the slot for the rune to help champions through the early game is already filled by second wind and especially bone plating.

also not a fan of putting more damage into the only defensive rune tree we have.

can we instead just get legendary guardian back? it had a unique enough mechanic and would fit pretty well next to conditioning as a midgame resistance investment and second wind as an early game rune with mild lategame scaling.

increased resistances with more enemies around would be great for juggernauts and divers.

Legendary Guardian gain 3 (maybe 4) armor and magic resistance for every enemy champion nearby. gain an additional 5% armor and magic resistance when at least 3 enemy champions are nearby.

this could work out pretty well.

in a 1v1 or 1v2, conditioning clearly wins at 10 minutes.

against 3 enemy champions, legendary guardian is slightly stronger than conditioning. against 4 or 5 champions, its clearly stronger.

early game item 1054 + second wind + bone plating should win.

honestly, i never liked these either.

the trigger condition for the % resistance bonus was super weird and made it better on champions with inbuilt shields than champions without.

what i didnt like about them either was, that they were almost exactly the same rune. just one for armor and one for mr. i really didnt think it was neccessary for them to take up two rune slots.

Wasn't it kinda intended for Corrupted Potion? I don't remember exact wording of the runes how they react and trigger to potion healing.

they changed it to also trigger on healing and shielding a while back. so champions like jarvan who could self shield would just get extra resistances on those abilities.

but either way. making the % resistance bonus trigger on potion is weird as fuck. because the % bonus obviously is meant to scale and kick in mid/late after you actually built some resistances. but youre not buying potions mid or lategame anymore, so its kindof pointless because you cant access it anymore.

Yeah the bonus thing was a little wonky. But just the base stats was what I liked.

Especially playing an immobile melee into something like Rumble or Pantheon .

If it was essentially a conditioning but without the bonus % increases I'd still take it over conditioning and chrysalis.

More than likely gonna be running chrysalis once it's live if iron and mirror are removed. Don't care much for the AD/AP, but the early health will help I guess.

Yeah they suck doney ass and i'd rather see the old talent's that granted those %Armor/mr increases return because conditioning at least forced you to wait until 10min's before you got that extra resistances and all.

Not for long boyo and the gains ain't that big either for damage dealers.

Chrysalis is a joke.

Agree, they're appeasing to what left of celestial body into a Rune slot that is already dominated by Second wind/conditioning.

Can we get some masteries for champs like garen? can they be perfectly fitting like it is for let's say Jarvan?

Chrysalis can be ok for junglers though if they pick up overgrowth as well. Should get a but extra health gains before u get a decent AD or AP buff.

Still a wonkey rune that's overshadowed by second wind and the huge resistance buff unless u wanted something more aggro from your tank tree.

"but with legendary guardian then how will we have our super-fun 3 minute toplane 2 vs 1 tower dives?" -rito games

that would be the rune that gave you 8 armor/mr near allied turrets.

flibitydoo3 votes

yeah and they both stacked together to dissuade 2 vs 1 lane camping.

I'm doubtful someone with your experience hasn't had those games where the enemy dove you and you lived with <75hp while getting double kills under your turret.

Too bad we can't have defense anymore in league of damage.

I see crhysalis as the rune for "I'm having a tough lane but once I scale I'll kick but" whereas second wind is for "I'm getting poked into oblivion" and bone plating is for champs that fear or are gonna be engaging in all-ins a lot

but if youre having a tough lane and want time to scale, pick boneplating and second wind to get you through the early gamem and buy some early health. second wind is not just helpful when youre getting poked a lot, but also when you take trades or repeatedly get traded on. there are already enough options.

second wind works best on tanky dudes though, since it works off missing health. Base health is best for squishy champs that won't invest into more health early. I really think this rune is more focused on AP/AD carries rather than fighters

ap/ad carries have 4 other trees to chose from.

we only have one single defensive tree. thats the problem. replacing a part of that tree with more damage removes already limited defensive options for bruisers and tanks. id rather take celestial body back than chrysalis.

This type of thinking is why ADCs dominate the fuck out of everything, due to arbitrarily having everything in the game from itemization to offensive verse defensive formulas themselves (Oh yeah, linear or at best quadratic scaling for everything defensive, meanwhile motherfucking quintic formulas for damage. Nothing like three powers higher of a function to create massive systemic imbalances) to specific tuning and champion balances.

At some point, there SHOULD ACTUALLY FUCKING BE THINGS BETTER FOR THE "TANKY DUDES" THAN FOR CARRIES, AND NO, THAT IS NOT A DESIGN IMBALANCE OR SOME IMPOSSIBILITY ABHORRED BY THE GAME ITSELF

I mean for fuck's sake's there are 3.5-4 trees dedicated to carries, and ostensibly at least one that is supposed to be for oh, about half of all the goddamn champions in the entire game that actually NEED defense instead. Never mind that divers, wardens, vanguards and juggernauts ALL need substantial investment into defensive options, they cannot even be allowed to have a single tree of runes dedicated to them, because "think of the poor carries! They might not have a rune that is more optimal for them than for the people it was designed for! Clearly we need to restructure the tree to cater to our poor carry overlords!"

Eh, I like Chrysalis on Morde. The 60 hp helps in early lane and the 15 AP is neat once you get to actually fight people.

i would have thought with how low mordes base health was, youd prefer more flat hp options instead of having the bonus vanish for more ap later on.

there are plenty ways for him to build ap, but his health options arent great.

I just don't like that Chrysalis is competing with Second Wind. Can't they put it in the same tier as something useless so I can actually pick it, like Overgrowth?
