Pretty fucking stupid how irrelevant skill is right now. 9/10 games come almost completely down to which team out-picked the other.

The problem is that some champs are just really bad in comparison to others & Riot has a nerf 1st mentality. They'd rather give everyone wet noodles to fight with than tomahawks. This leads to people picking the strongest champs at the time (also known as "flavor of the month") before their eventual nerfs or the occasional buff/rework/full relaunch (which happen at about the same snail's pace, also known as "Soon" or "By the End of the Month").

Drafting is part of strategy

That being said, as long as you have a team comp that has some sort of legitimate strategy and synergy, you're not that bad off even if you don't have the highest tier picks.
