Why players tryhard so much in game modes that were supposed to be for fun?
It seems like many players can only have fun if they are winning or if they are completely stomping the enemy
(and yes I am talking about Ascension)

Sadly that is just how the game is nowadays.
I wish they tried half as hard in ranked.
Well, getting rekt because the enemy was playing seriously is no fun, so people play seriously for fun.
Players are just naturally competitive. It's why people tryhard at all in any game mode.
Plus, winning is usually more fun, unless everyone is goofing around. There's no denying that.
It doesn't justify them getting angry, but you can never stop tryharding in any video game.

I take it pretty chill when I play Stardew Valley, I think I'd come of as a massive tard if I was tryhard watering my plants. BrokeBack
Some people just find more fun in winning outright, rather than in using a champ they enjoy, trying a risky play to get a huge reward, etc
The gamemodes were intended as a change from the standard 5v5 SR, right? Doesn't mean that people can't try and have fun, whatever their definition of "fun" may be.
I think the real problem is people trying to play temp modes as though they were normals. URF is meant to be people going crazy and laughing their asses off with the super low CDs, instead people just pick whoever takes advantage of them best like Zed and Sona. Ascension intends for people to to have "Vallhalla fun"(fight, die, fight more, die again, repeat endlessly) instead people are building whole comps that spam AoE stunlocks with the express intention of grouping on crystals to get huge point leads. These premeditated strategies designed to create the biggest possible advantage before the game even starts is what I think makes their opponents not even stand a chance and thus not enjoy it.
I think the whole problem stems from that the culture that exists among most players of the game of believing the outcome is always decided at champ select and thus insisting in building the most efficient teams every single time. For this reason I don't believe any temporary game mode except Showdown and Doombots will ever be as fun as we remember them again unless the community gets over that mindset.
I so agree with you, When i played URF lately i took tris and leveled up her rocket jump 1st. it was hillarious how i could infinity rocketjump from level1 and it was amazing. not so greazt though bcoz we lost to an ekko and shaco, just like every other urf game. If a player chooses a fun&interesting champ in urf he'd get crushed by a meta champ like evelyn,sona...etc. which makes me sad and the gamemode becomes more annoying and frustrating than fun.
the problem is, ekko and shaco were insanely fun in urf mode
So on top of people picking them because they were broken af, they were also picked just because they were fun AF
i can't comment on zed but I'm sure the people playing zed were having a blast
Sona i can imagine felt lke watching paint dry
uh i don't like to lose and idk anyone else who does
i dont mind if the game is competitive and i lose, but i'd still rather win
