Koggles does some good mixed damage, so the armor on it won't reduce his damage as massively as it does against other adcs. He also mostly uses on-hit effects which I believe are not accounted for in the Thornmail damage reflection. It may still be worth it, but even then, it would be an item for killing Koggles rather than trying to stop him from killing you.
Far better generally to just grab 
and/or 
to cripple his attack speed.
Auz the Ripper4 votesThe reflection part of Thornmail is less important than the base damage which scales off of your armor. Thornmail is itself an on-hit effect, so Kog'Maw is taking twice as much damage from the armor scaling compared to any other ADC.

Building to out-tank Kog Maw is a lost cause cuz no matter who you are it takes all of 1 second to die to him. You need to kill him in that second before he kills you.

He'd likely deal 80%+ of his usual damage, and just kill you with help from his team. He could also just ignore you and leave you to his mage who will effectively be at least one item up on you.
Attack speed slows and active mitigations (
) work well to mitigate his damage long enough for the actual carries on your team to do their things. Such items (combined with utility spells) should make you able to tank for a few seconds.
Maybe it'd be worth it on a juggernaut, but pretty much everyone else has better options. If you can get on him or hit him from a long range (mage generally) you may as well just build your own damage to kill him faster.

Thornmail procs on each hit, dealing % armor + % damage.
Koggy attacks deal 55% AD per hit but proc the full thorns.
So that means that thorn = 2x as good vs koggy

Hawkefire3 votesThat is very difficult to say. I made a thread (possibly might have been a reply to someone) a good long while ago on the math between choosing one or the other, and I found that executioners is always better against Mundo if Mundo is ulting (especially if he has spirit visage).
The key question on choosing executioners or giant slayer is mostly on their team comp and who is fed on their team. If they are a heavy sustain comp with things like soraka and Mundo, grab executioners.
If they are building lots of health but most of them don't have much sustain, grab a giant slayer.
If they aren't stacking health, and they aren't stacking sustain, but they are grabbing lots of resistances (unusual but still possible), grab an upgraded executioners because their adc is probably going to grab some lifesteal and this makes it easier to duel him.

TurquoiseYoshi10 votesRushing is probably the worst thing to do as an ADC early, unless the enemy support is Soraka, and even then it's questionable. It's wildly inefficient until someone on the enemy team has the CDR or mana to regularly use healing spells, or until the ADC has to fight the mid/top that has large sustain (like Vlad or Swain). When you also consider that almost nobody buys BoRK or Death's Dance as an ADC, and few ADCs buy BT until the last item, it's even worse. That ~15% extra damage from LDR against everyone except the other ADC (maybe support and mid, depending on the champions) is far more useful than cutting off a bit of healing from one person who will be blown up anyway if your team gets onto them.
Warlord Zudane1 votesSoraka/Sona both do a lot of healing. That 6 seconds of GW without any condition other than "physical damage" cuts a lot. It means that if you poke the enemy ADC, their support is either wasting mana or waiting 6 seconds to heal. That's a pretty strong poke.

No, it's not ideal in any and all situations - nobody is saying that and it's stupid to think it. But in situations with high heal and/or lifesteal, which is what is being described here (stop arguing other points, we aren't talking about those) then is useful.

It's an item that your support almost always rushes as their first item on back, and it's a close second otherwise. The commenter also mentioned it in relation to LDR, which is why I brought up that comparison as well. I'm not saying the item is worthless, but it's not rushed like Sightstone and it's not the normal best option like LDR.

I asked our Tristana about 10 times very kindly to buy EC to counter him, explaining that it conveniently can be combined with Last Whisper into Mortal Reminder. About 20 minutes later I saw her with Lord Dominik's Regards, while enemy Mundo was running around unkillable. Remember how everybody said that champs like Mundo, Swain, Vladimir etc. will be completely dumpstered just because Executioner's Calling is being reintroduced? Good joke, because nobody has brains to think that MAYBE if they buy this item, killing those sustain champs won't be pain in the ass anymore! I would buy it everytime I can, but I mostly play AP or tank champs, but even then I take ignite if I can.
