Is banning because you don't trust your allies acceptable?

Outside of when there is a new champion released, as in that situation, it is obvious that you can't trust your teammates at all that if they pick him, he will probably become a burden for your team. This only applies to ranked, though, On normal games, this doesn't matter because victory is not all that important.

However, what I want to ask is not this. What do you think of banning a champion because you don't want your allies picking that champion?

There was a time, back when Yasuo was extremely popular, that I would ban him because I didn't trusted my teammates would know the right time to pick him. This happened because there was a game a long time ago that all of my teammates were asking my top laner to pick a tank since the enemy picked Maokai. Despite this, my top laner picked Yasuo. Even though he won early game, we lost because Yasuo was nearly useless post lane phase and didn't had the utility needed to protect our ADC and make us win the game. This happened back during the tank meta. Since that day, I banned Yasuo on almost all my ranked games, because I was afraid that my teammates would pick him even if he was the worst pick possible for that situation. I only stopped doing that recently because Yasuo was nerfed to the point that he is no longer a popular pick nor he is strong.

Is that acceptable, or is that toxic?

In ranked, it's a totally legit thing. Normals, kind of a dick move, but I guess if you're hungry for that win.

if its normal it is toxic as hell, most especially since they got rid of teambuilder.... if you troll that bad, then i assume karma gets to you eventually in this game and u prob get trolled...

I used to ban Ezreal in ranked, even when he was a mid tier pick, because 95% of the ones I got on my team were terrible. Also had someone the other day say they were going to play AD fiddlesticks jungle, fiddle got banned so they played AD veigar jungle instead and intentionally fed.

If I have an ally hovering a troll pick, I'm going to ban it. That includes, but is not limited too:

  • Gutted champs
  • Non-meta picks(not to be mistaken for uncommon picks)
  • Newly released champs
  • Toxic champs
  • OP champs I don't want the enemy team first-picking

Having said this, I actually rarely ever have to.

I would love some examples for each category, and which one you would rather ban. im just interested in your ban system.

That's a fair thing to ask and you have to keep in mind it's also relative to the current meta. Today's picks look drastically different from say last season or season 4/3.

  • Gutted champs would include things like Teemo, Sona or Mordekaiser.
  • When I say non-meta, I refer to extreme cases like taking AP LeBlanc bot lane, when you're supposed to be the ADC and especially after mid, jung, supp are all already magic damage champs.
  • If I don't know you, I don't trust you to play a new champ. Then again, I don't trust some people I know enough either.
  • Toxic champs are things like Rengar, Shaco... they just want to bm people all game and they either feed super hard on my team or GET super fed on the enemy.
  • OP champs are self-explanatory. Atm they'd be Tahm, Mundo, et cetera.

Personally, this happens to me all the time because I play Teemo

Yes, you're so smart for banning my champ. But I have over 200 ranked games on that champ and a 62% win rate this season on that champ. Yes, you're so smart and clever and witty, but you're too fucking dumb to check a match history before banning a teammate's champ.

It's toxic as fuck, and players who do it are toxic and fucking stupid.

its a bad thing to do in normals, and with teambuilder gone, learning is now forced into draft and blind, because honestly bots don't teach you a damn thing for use against actual people, ranked its situational if you know the person then its up to you if you don't then just choose the ban you think is best. all in all if its normal your just denying someone the ability to learn or improve with a champion they want to play.

Heres a link to my post on a similar thing. maybe itll help you decide if you made the right choice and feel free to comment as well ^_^ [(http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/miscellaneous/XHBuEwVE-when-your-champ-gets-banned-and-your-teams-reason-is)]

If a player wants to play someone, they have the right to play them. Banning them would probably put them on tilt and feed even more

In a team game, you have a duty to provide your team with a strong avenue towards victory especially ranked.

You also have a duty to provide your allies good morale. Banning a champ he/she wants to play doesn't do that. Plus, it's not like they are going jhin jungle (in that case ban him. But jhin mid or adc is ok). Plus you are not giving yourself an avenue to win if you are lowering a persons morale and will to win

Ranked if someone is picking the new chances are they dont really care about the game and may not do that well regardless, you also lose the chance of the enemy picking him and throwing.

Normals? I feel its designed to practice new champs and not only determinant to finding out what the new champs can do but very toxic as someone else has pointed out. I would encourage picking new champs in normals and not ranked.
