Dorans Ring didn't get nerfed

Z3Sleeper··23 votes·8,349 views

It gave 4 mana per kill and 50% base mana regen.

The base mana regen for most champs was 6. This means they all got 3 mana per 5 from it. Minions spawn in waves of 6 every 30s. This means with 100% cs rate they got 4 mana per 5 from its passive.

In total old Dorans gave a potential ~7 mana per 5.

New Dorans gives 5 mana per 5. Nerf? NO!

Mages also all got +2 mana regen per 5. 5 + 2 = 7 quik maths.

A Mage with Dorans this patch will still have 7 mana per 5 only difference is they don't even have to CS to attain it.

What's more is you can now stack Dorans again since the mana regen isn't unique (idk why you would tho).

On top of both of these advantages to new Dorans, it also gives +5 basic attack damage vs minions.

IT'S A BUFF PEOPLE. FIGHT ME ON THIS.

Sadly the average boards poster will pick apart and complain about only the negatives aspects of a set of changes while ignoring the positive aspects of it

Their ignorance physically hurts me.

I forgot to mention virtually no one who plays this game is capable of getting perfect CS meaning if you take into account missing a minion every once in a while thats even less mana old DRing was giving you

Too bad not everyone who took dring got compensation buffs to mana regen (e.g. jhin, kaisa, etc.).

The item got hella nerfed. Whether your champion is about the same as before with it is one thing, but whether the -item- itself gives less mana than before is pretty clearcut: it does, in fact, give less mana overall. The only "buff" was making the mana regen from multiple drings stack again.

Aren't those adcs which need nerfs anyway?

You're right. Mages are still great. People are crying about literally nothing.

Not really crying i mean the performance of most mages post the change speaks for itself. The ones that are acceding didnt really need/use mana.

Another thing you didnt mention is the 200g increase on item 3802 so it takes them even longer to get their items in comparison to other roles with cheaper itemization. That hurts more than anything.

You can definitely feel the nerf if you main a mage, something you clearly do not do. Kinda annoys me when people who hardly ever plays a mage tries to comment on their state.

Lost Chapter needed that nerf. It was 10% CDR too overstat, now they compensated it with 15 more AP.

Time and place for the nerf is key. Doing the nerf after or even during the ADC nerfs would of been more appropriate. Now Mages essentially suck until over a month from now while bot lane still reigns supreme.

I want to remind you of something. This season alone, mages items have gone through not one but two major changes before adcs have gone though one (in 5 short months). So explain to me why was it more important to address them twice before getting to the lane that everyone is complaining about?

What the fuck does timing have to do with anything? The item is broken. What the fuck is wrong is nerfing it?

#IT'S A PATCH OR TWO EARLIER FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, YOU MIGHT AS WELL CALL IT THE SAME TIME!

Do you people just want to complain? I know that looking back you find this argument completely pointless because, objectively, you're supposed to nerf broken things. You should also know with complete rationality that being off 1-2 patches is nothing. That people might have had this idea come first, or this idea just happened to be the most prepared.

Time has to do with everything it put them behind everything else before they are nerf therefore they are much weaker why is that so hard of a concept to understand.

If mages power was at 105 when they should of been 100 then bot lane is current 110. Nerfing them to 100 and then waiting for 2 patches to bring down bot to 100 from 110 is obviously very bad. Mages were not breaking the game, Mages were not ruining games, and Mages were not the priority here. Thats what time has to do with it.

Now if you actually read my previous post you would of known why but all you read was "Time and place for the nerf is key" when if you even bothered to read the second and third sentence "Doing the nerf after or even during the ADC nerfs would of been more appropriate. Now Mages essentially suck until over a month from now while bot lane still reigns supreme." then you wouldn't have had to ask this question.

Now objectively yes you are suppose to nerf broken things but objectively you are suppose to nerf things in order of severity and whats the most broken and having the largest impact on the game first. There's ALWAYS going to be something broken with the game(thats how these type of games work, nothing is ever perfect) but bigger problems should ALWAYS be tackled first and in comparison the Mage problem was minor.

Don't forget that now Lost Chapter gives 40 ap while old one was 200g cheaper but gave 25 ap.

Stop saying only half of the changes when a item is tweaked, thanks.

You didn't build lost chapter first for the AP you built it for the mana in lane, if i wanted AP i would just get item 1058 , its cheaper and gives more AP.

You know that it was built for that you are just playing dumb i meaning you are literally building item 3040 on every mage you play.

Mana regen increases with level so it won't always be 3 mp5 from old Doran's (that's only at level 1). It breaks even at around level 9 or 10 with new Doran's and then from there on Old Doran's gives you more regen. That's also not including the mana on unit kill from Old Doran's

Only mages didn't get nerfed for buying Doran's Ring because of their compensation.

That said, they actually buffed it for people who are new to the game, people who aren't so good at CSing, and I'm hugely in favour of this

I used to like buying Doran's Ring on Sion for the early spam but now it'll be less effective :(

But that's okay, I'm really looking forward to using the new Essence Reaver on AD casters / tanks, even if they completely remove the ult trigger

How will Riot not have seen this coming? We all know it's gonna happen.

Ok sure but why1 votes

I still find it annoying why all the regen things get measured per FIVE seconds instead of just one

But still, it's disheartening to see Riot taking away from the importance of CS'ing in the early game, solely because it might makes the LCS a bit more interesting

Annie MANA REGEN 6 per 5 seconds ⇒ 8 per 5 seconds

Azir MANA REGEN 6 per 5 seconds ⇒ 8 per 5 seconds

I'm not gonna list them all go read the patch notes.

"This patch" meaning 8.9, the patch we're currently on.

Most mages had 6 mana regen in 8.8 and earlier. Mana regen got buffed by 2-3 points on most mages, in addition to base mana pool buffs.

What got nerfed was mana per level, but mana-using mages virtually always buy at least one mana item (speaking of which, Luden's and GLP-800 had their mana buffed by 100 too) so they still have more mana than other roles anyway.
