Can someone explain Nashors Diana?

Can someone explain Nashors Diana to me please? I don't understand why you would choose to get a sustained damage item on an assassin. I also see people buying mercs on her rather than sorcs - almost as if they are playing a fighter rather than a champ designed to one shot people. I suppose the nashors build makes winning 1v1 against bruisers possible, but why would you even care about doing that if it lowers your burst against squishies?

Because Diana is actually designed to be a Fighter/Diver but due to her fast burst combo is usually played as an Assassin. Playing her as a fighter is still fine though.

she is an aa mage assassin

She's not a mage at all, actually. Calling her a mage is like calling Akali a mage.

I've been building Ludens into Deathcap and killing dquishies from full with a QWR. I guess you guys can get a nashors and do half as much damage while still having to auto attack a few times , but I'll keep on one shotting

I say mage because she is AP. I thought you made a thread to understand why everyone gets Nashors, but I see you made up your mind. Good luck being in the rank you are.

Sorry for seeming confrontational. Anyways, most of the community, and Riot themselves, define mages as being fragile backline spellcasters. Diana bears much more similarity to champs like Riven than she does to champs like Xerath. Having AP scalings doesn't make a champion a mage.

Swain is a Mage and he is the tankiest mofo there is. Same as Vlad or Galio. Riot does not define an Mage by being fragile, there is another term "glass cannon" that means fragile.

Are Swain and Vlad hard to kill? Certainly. Do they win trades in melee range of most any top loaner? Not usually. That's why they're mages - spellcasters with a kiting playatyle.

Galio is a tank without a doubt, though I could see mage as a secondary role making sense.

Anyways, Riot recently posted a list of their different classes and subclasses, and where xleach champ fits in. Diana is listed as a Fighter with the Diver subclass. Not a mage at all.

Diana isn't an assassin

Diana is a fighter, kindof like the other fighters who one shot people

there are even games when you might want to kill tanky people instead

RoA + Nashors makes her tanky and great dueling potential also fantastic split pusher.

I completely understand on Jungle Diana. Lane Diana? Meeeh, probably better options.

Jungle Diana does have to auto frequently though, and with her passive, getting the cleave can be a huge boon, on top of the on hit. Back when the AP jungle item gave 20% CDR, I would get Nashor's 3rd to have 40% cooldown at half build. Insane.

Tower taking ability. Di with nashors is one of the best tower takers or epic monster killers in league. After a point it becomes literally impossible to 1v1 stop her split push because of her insane duel potential and the fact that any lost trade results in a lost tower as well.

Not to mention if you path her to be right next to the tower or inhibitor, her passive also damages it, but not if you just attack from max range.

Her passive is the hardest hitting ability in her kit come late game. It starts off weak, but once you start creeping past level 13 the base damage takes off. AT level 16, it is flat out her hardest hitting ability - the base damage will tie with her ult, surpass her Q + W, and it has the highest AP ratio in her kit.

Hell, I even go RoA - FH - Wit's End in certain situations build because the damage is still there because of her passive. She can become quite a decent fighter that sticks to ANYTHING if you're good at hitting your Q.

I think I'm starting to get it. How does the damage and survivability of tanky ap nashors Diana compare to someone like Irelia, who gets hella sustained damage from just 1-2 offensive items and then goes tank?

What happened with Assassin Diana is the mirror of what happened with tank Ekko. Ekko was meant to be a sudo-assassin, but went tank. Diana was meant to be an ap fighter/Diver and build tanky/damage, but ended up going assassin because of her qrwer combo that can kill you extremely fast(maybe with a few aa's in there) OR if she is in a 1v1, she can take some time to let her q come off cooldown to keep her ult refreshed in a qrweqr fashion.

Diana was not meant to burst squishies, but rather hold out and kill them over the course of a long duel. Its just that people like the 100-0 playstyle better.

Well there's also the fact that if you don't instaburst a squishy in teamfights as an assassin or fighter you get CC'ed and instantly destroyed, there's no real middleground, unless you have the best escape mechanisms of the game (Ekko Zed Leblanc )
