Thunderlords needs to be nerfed; there's no denying it.

I agree on buffing some of the less attractive keystones as a whole because it's always a good process to buff up everything else, too. But let's be clear here: thunderlords has been the most broadly broken mastery. Warlords and fervor were more broken in their niches because they worked on minions. But thunderlords is so broken, you're seeing 8-10 thunderlords a game.

You can claim all the other masteries not named bond of stone and grasp of the undying are underwhelming but it doesn't change the fact that this mastery is sometimes taken by all champions in a game. This is s3 rework botrk levels of broken (it had to be hotfixed), it's so good that it's being purchased by everyone. This type of power in a spell, item or mastery is the epitome of overpowered since it warps the game so heavily. Giving burst more burst will always be good. Giving no burst or low burst a boost and adding burst onto a combo will always be good. This, by definition is what being overpowered is.

I don't pretend to know the direction of thunderlords but you would be out of your mind to think it doesn't need some sort of change, regardless of the power of other masteries. I know it's giving damage and burst to champions that typically have low burst at early levels and shouldn't be having that kind of power. This isn't healthy game design. Even tanks and no/low damage supports are taking it when other masteries that are decent/strong should be far more appealing to them.

Thanks for the read summoners!

the problem with thunderlords as is, is its tooooo early game. the base damage it gives is simply to high at the early ranks which is promoting and enabling snowballing to occur. its not that the mastery is doing something outrageous like chunk you for 30% of your health, but at the same time its giving unintended champions enough damage to actually be a contender. which to some degree is good, but then wheres the "choice" in the matter when its so enabling and so game changing to get those 2 or 3 early kills for your team. that everyone just HAS to take it

I feel like this really hits the nail on the head. It's way too good, especially early game. This massively warps the game. It's not good design when everyone suddenly has a burst combo at early levels.

It's interesting you mention early game because I agree. Aside from niche cases, it's not super powerful late (but on the right champions it is, especially champions with passive 3-hit spells). Maybe a good direction is to make it less early game focused and more of a late game mastery so it becomes niche and leaves you feeling like you've a meaningful choice with it. This was what the new keystone masteries were supposed to do anyway, right?

Actually from what I hear they are leaving thunderlords alone on the PBE and buffing all of the other keystone masteries instead

Yeah I know. I think that's a mistake. Thunderlords still needs to be tuned down in some facet.

I don't think its a mistake. I think Riot is taking the right approach to changes for once. They nerfed all the keystones and now everyone is taking thunderlords. Now rather than just gut thunderlords as well so were left with nothing as a meaningful choice riot is buffing the other keystones. I think we should wait till the changes hit live and see how it goes. If you are still seeing thunderlords in every game after the changes I'd say tone it down but until then lets wait.

The true reason everyone is taking Thunderlords is because of the precision mastery. Which is flat 5 pen of both types and it scales with level.
