In all seriousness, who actually enjoys playing against full AD comps?

Yes this is a rant.

They are completely winnable due to lack of mixed damage, but holy shit are they the most boring an unfun games to play, even more so when you're a fighter or tank.

You just accept that you're GOING to lose the early-mid game, build tons of armor and HP into the late game, even though they still manage to kill you less than 3 seconds in team fights.

I get that there are a lot of champions in the game, and that there exists a lot of champions of all archetypes which can counter another archetype as a whole, but design of the stats which these champions utilize gives them natural counters which AP doesn't get, due to how the game scales.

If a team is full AP, then by late game, they've stopped scaling and getting more defensive stats works to reduce their damage, where as AD will continue scaling to the point that even into the late game, you're struggling to keep up with their offensive scaling.

Edit: LOL at all the people talking about rammus and malph, you don't seem to understand what i'm saying. Yes, you can roll over these kinds of teams with the right champions, but the game itself is unfun unless your only concern is winning the game.

2 kinds of people enjoy going against full AD comps: Malphite and Rammus.

That kind of team comp is HEAVEN for them.

Easy doesn't mean Enjoyable.

Attticus Finch3 votes

Yes it does.

deadlychuck3 votes

No it doesn't. To some people it does, though to assume they are synonymous is a very bad practice on riot's part. As they make this assumption all the time, with how heavily they've reinforced the rock-paper-scissors interactions of the game.

Only if you get camped or destroyed every 2 minutes. :P

I used to..

But then Riot:

  • nerfed shitty thornmail into even greater piece of shit, so tanks became no good.
  • and as a bonus they even made last whispers better, to kick tanks in the nuts. Cause reasons, am I rite?
  • nerfed my main, Teemo, just cause he was too good of a counter to allmighty ADCs
  • shat on mages I enjoyed playing with crappy mage hidden support update
  • added 2749012342936 lifesteal items, just in case if 550% lifesteal wasn't enough.

There are plenty of AP champs whose damage doesn't fall off late game, and these are mostly the battle mages like Malzahar, Swain, Galio, all of whom benefit from building Liandry's Torment due to their DoT spells ontop of possessing some pretty potent cc, so this really only applies to squishier mages who do their damage in short bursts.

If I do encounter a full AD team, I usually roll in with an AD Bruiser and go with an off-tank fighter build using Trundle, Jarvan, or Wukong, all of whom are pretty good at dealing with assassins while providing enough of their own damage to fight back with.

Except i'm talking about blind pick instant losses, because riot has so over emphasized the rock, paper, scissors design of the game that you can't have reasonable games without first picking the correct champions in a competitive manner

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

pick whatever champ you want , just play better then the enemy

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Who cares about Blind Pick?

The game mode is only really for beginners and few know enough at that point to actually care about team compositions.

deadlychuck1 votes

WTF? No blind pick isn't a game mode for beginners, it's a game mode to have fun, but that's nearly impossible when riot is concerned about making a balanced game for ranked.

What i don't understand is why people seem to think ranked is so much more important than other game modes. There is nothing which makes it more important to the average player.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

I wasn't referring to ranked.

The 'standard' game mode is Normal Draft.

LordGeovanni1 votes

Too tell the truth Draft mode was avoided like l bad disease until season 5 pre season which isnt that long ago in the cycle of this game

Astôlfo1 votes

Blind pick doesn't matter, nor are you correct anyways.

deadlychuck1 votes

"Blind pick doesn't matter".

Please, explain to me how i'm wrong, that when two competent players go head to head, champion select is more important than mechanical skill

SociopathFriend1 votes

Because the champions control what the player can do? Thus the champion is always going to matter just as much as the player behind it?

Hayaishi21 votes

I do because it's free elo.

Weathered1 votes

I do. Building item 3143 item 3742 on someone like Jayce or Kha is funny as hell when you can steamroll their ad comp.

I only enjoy it if my team listens to me.

"Guys going full damage is okay, just build a thornmail as your only defensive item. They will hurt themselves no matter who they attack." -> no one does it -> lose.

Malphite Hell Taric yeah Rammus we Shen do.

**Time to become immortal. **

Complaining about any "comp" is silly. "I don't like poke comps" "I don't like siege comps" "I don't like splitpush comps" "I don't like teamfight comps" Well bully for you- others like these comps.

Edit: Shen is because of being able to lol-no auto-attacks, which presumably would be a decent part of an all AD-comps damage.

Except i'm not complaining about a team comp in that sense. I'm talking from a numerical stance on when champions have their power spikes and fall offs. The fact that one type of mono-damage team is viable (granted you have to win by the mid game), and another isn't viable at all just reeks of a problem.

Almost no AP champions have the kind of dps that marksmen have, but there exists multiple champions which build AD and have kits that are effectively a mage kit. All the utility of AP, but with what's effectively a built in 100% scaling on hit passive.

So you're upset AD champions function like AD champions. Have fun with that.

Also- do tell me where these AD champions are that have "mage kits"? Shields and heals for allies? Silences? Snares, stuns, and roots at long range? Untargetability? Resurrections? CC like charms or fear? Poke? Zoning? Sure there are AD champions that rarely fit one of these- but none of them are truly team-players like Mages are.

The fact that you just said one type of team is viable and the other is not while mentioning in the same sentence how the other can still win makes me think this conversation is going to have a problem as well. Not to mention it all boils down to the players more so than the champions used.

No, that's not in any what what i'm saying. I'm upset that in terms of all archetypes, AD champions are a subset of each, but AP champions aren't. Basically, every role on the team can be accomplished by an AD champion, but it can't be done by an AP champions. Then to add onto that, AD/Armor design very much favors the AD, where AP/MR favors MR. Hell look at how many champions have built in armor pen vs built in magic pen; alternatively at how many champions have AD scaling magic damage vs AP scaling physical damage. How about the keystones instead?

Armor Pen/Shred: JarvanIV Jayce Kayle KogMaw Renekton Sion Trundle Urgot Vi MonkeyKing XinZhao Corki Nasus Rammus Darius Gangplank Yasuo

Magic Shred: KogMaw Jayce Karthus Kayle Trundle Amumu Turns out all built in magic pen, is actually shred.

I guess that depends what you define as a mage. Mages really aren't team players, by design, they're ranged AoE dps. Yeah, most of them have some form of CC, but it's all complementary and no more than that of AD champions in most cases. They're designed to be most effective in team fights, but they aren't designed to be team players, what you're thinking of is SUPPORTS.

But in order of what you said... excluding shields/heals for allies, which most AP champions don't actually have, hints why item 3174 isn't ever used. Silence:Garen Snare:Rengar Ranged Stun:Vayne Ranged Root:Jhin Untargetable:Kled SelfRez:Aatrox Fear:Nocturne Poke:Jayce Zoing:Illaoi

The fact that you just said one type of team is viable and the other is not while mentioning in the same sentence how the other can still win makes me think this conversation is going to have a problem as well. Not to mention it all boils down to the players more so than the champions used.

When did i ever make this statement? What you're claiming here is that I said "Pure AD is viable and Pure AP isn't, but Pure AP can still win." When did i ever claim that mono-type AP comps are viable?

Yes, the players do matter, but only to the extent that it's on the AD team's back to lose, as "winning" as the mixed team isn't about outplaying them, it's about not losing in the first 30 minutes to the massive split pushing and early game snowballing of the AD designs.

God King Aatrox1 votes

i do because its freelo? all you have to do is build armor and thorn.

Meep Man1 votes

Or have one anti-AD Tank/Support.

deadlychuck1 votes

As i said, they are beatable, and they are even easier to beat than a normal comp. But that doesn't make the game itself more enjoyable just the climb.

Meep Man1 votes

The only thing about AD comps being really prevalent is it makes it to where all Fighters/Tanks without anti-AD properties and/or big defensive cool downs almost unplayable.

deadlychuck1 votes

most immobile mages too. Who have been shoehorned into pseudo-assassin roles by riot, instead of their old anti-tank/juggernaut roles of the past.
