Riot, thank you for finally lowering our ping by 60-70
~All East Coast Players
~All East Coast Players
Except they completely screwed Hawaii. I live on the West Coast, used to have 16 ping, now I have about 90-100. I felt bad for the East Coast players all these years, but I didn't think Riots solution would be "Well, let's just flip it over the other way and let West Coast suffer for a bit."
I'm not bashing East Coast players, you guys deserved better ping, but I don't think that had to come at the expense of an entire state and almost half the country.
EDIT: Now I'm getting 120 Ping, lol what is this joke

maybe half the country but not half the player base
so what you are saying is, because they are not half the playerbase, whichdoesnt even make sense, because you claim east coast has more then west coast, asia, japan, and everywhere else combined. seems abit like your exxagerating the figures. but you pretty much told hawaii and alaska "oh well, fuck you." you entitled dumbass. why should anyone have to suffer for someone else to gain, why not idk make two god damn servers. what ive been saying for years, to remedy the issue, but if we praise them for this, why should they be held accountable to truly fixing a problem if sheep will congratulate this shit. how can things truly ever be fixed
i dont even think EA games would do this. oh wait riot just gave them this wonderful idea to save more money for themselves.
Sub 100 is playable. Anything competitive sub 50 is fine.
oh wait what about people with 80 ping, and now they have 150. Even better people with 160 who now have 200. And the people with 200... you get the idea.
I've got 170 now, had 120 before (I live in alberta)
ya i dont get why they didnt just make 2 servers instead of switching it over
Because then they would have to split the player base, imagine the rage... people not being able to play with each other anymore; and the only way to change that is to buy into another server
what? no... thats not how that would work man. basically they should have bought another server hub that they could route all their data from their servers through. instead, they just dropped their servers in the west coast then moved them all to east coast. i get it, east coast got shitty ping based on their location, but they didnt need to do this sort of "quick" fix. especally when they are a company that last year (2014) had a TOTAL revenue of $964 million between January and September (http://www.pcgamer.com/league-of-legends-has-made-almost-1-billion-in-microtransactions/). thats just a 2 month period...... so yea i get it they are a cooperation that is focused on earnings with quality assurance, but really they had a better solution for their ENTIRE north american player base but CHOSE the CHEAPER one. kinda makes me sad.
Tl:dr; they make enough money per year to have just purchased a server location on the east coast and linked it with all north america, but just didnt. cheaper = better now apperently.

Seconded. Riot deletes all my posts on the matter though, so fun

And Alaska. I live in Alaska and my ping went up from a great 70 to a pretty bad 150. And it spikes a lot.
Yeah, I just realized I left out Alaska, but if I remember correctly, haven't you always had crappy ping?

Not really, I live in a small ass village on the outskirts of a small port town and I still managed to grab 70-80 ping....Just 160-190 isn't cutting it.

^. I live in a small ass town. An island. We get an average 70 ping, which is great. I don't see much delay at all. But now I'm at roughly 150-180, and I can barely play.
I'm so used to playing with 100-120 ping.
When I first loaded up and saw 35 I had to pinch myself.

I'm used to getting 150 or so. When I logged in and had 69-73 ping I told my mother to get the camera so I could always remember my first time having ping under 100. It's so amazing to have lower ping!
tears of joy
When the servers migrate closer to you and you still have upwards of 180 ping.

Riot took the dagger out of the east coast players sides and jammed it into the west coast players sides. Who planned this move, the balance team?

60ish to 110 for me.
Same here in Alberta. Went up from 40s to 80s.
Also in Alberta, went 120 to 170.
Went from 20s to 80s with spikes into 200-500 every minute or so. Canada BC here.
The game is totally unplayable now.
It's not bad for the west coast, well for me it personally isn't anyways. I live in Sacramento, CA (central California) and my ping went form 35 to 60, doesn't really matter much, idk people tell me it's fcking with their gameplay, the most trouble I had was a tiny bit on csing the first game and then I just adjusted to it after a bit.
Canadian players are getting shitted on, some people are getting double/triple the pings (which is fine for the most part) but I'm getting spikes into 200s and 500s
Yeah, I live in San Jose and my ping is now 65, which is not a big deal at all. I don't mind the server change one bit. I think Riot is fucking cheap for not making two servers, and I pity the Hawaii playerbase, but it doesn't really affect me at all.
From what I recall reading it wasn't a matter of cost, it was a matter of if they made two servers than there was no good way for people in NA to actually play with each other across the continent.
Dota 2 has servers for US East and US West, and when I want to play with my friends on the East Coast, we can just queue on that Server. I get higher ping than normal, but it's not a big deal at all. If Riot wanted to, they could have a much better solution to the ping problem, but they took the easy way out.
Rip west coast players :'(
Yup.
while it is good, its also a band-aid fix, it just said here we will take some ping issues from eat coast and give it to west coast. its not really praise worthy, if they had the money to pay to transer the server, why not just make two servers and be done with it. http://www.pcgamer.com/league-of-legends-has-made-almost-1-billion-in-microtransactions/ if they ade that much in 2014, why couldnt they just completely remedy the situation. with just two servers. now no one has to suffer for the other to gain.
but we are praising the ground they walk on for a band-aid of all things.
Now west coast ping is god awful.... Really not fun to play this game anymore...
Well I live on west coast and my ping went from 35 to 105 :( doesn't really matter except when Im playing fiora though :/
Riot really screwed those of us in the Northwest over, we've now gone from having the best ping to the worst. My ping has more than doubled from 2932 to 7280. It's ridiculous. The clear solution was to make two servers so everyone can have adequate ping but they've simply chosen to screw over one segment of the population to benefit another.
Oh well, at least this will probably have me playing League a lot less. The game honestly feels really laggy now.
Thanks Riot.
I agree the northwest got totally disregarded. Admittedly my state probably has one of the lowest player populations (Idaho), but I went from 70 ping to a constant 125 and sometimes higher. I submitted my logs to see if there's anything they can do. It's kind of disappointing that some of us were just handed the East coast's crappy ping and expected to deal with it because we make up less of the population. Especially poor Hawaii and Alaska :c
Wish there had been a solution that didn't hurt some players to help others. I am happy East coast has better ping though.

The worst ping The worst WORST Even with your new ping at eighty its still 20-25 lower then what I used to get, you aren't "screwed over" People in Hawaii and alaska are "screwed over" you're just a whiny brat.
Riot, please don't make this your final solution. Put the other server back up and match games to find lowest ping like DOTA. The technology is here.
Meanwhile JAPAN
I don't think there is an available server for them what does not exceed 150 ping now
I'm on the east coast and my ping objectively worse than before somehow.
It's literally going up to 6000 now, but it's usually at a steady 600. I wish I was kidding.
When it's not like that which is basically never, it's around 50 ping, but whatever happened made the situation worse.
Honestly, I feel let down. This server move is LONG overdue. This is the only game I lag on. I've been ignored and screwed over for so long network wise that I've lost a LOT of faith in Riot. I didn't want to. I wanted to believe that they would keep their promises (for other things besides networks) but I've just been let down.
Yeah, they can make some nice skins and cool champions, but there's a lot more to developing a game than that.
I put this game down for a while because my ping had gotten unplayable. I come back when they've finally put a measure in place to improve things, and it's still in a horrific state for me.
For those who might say it's my internet, I have an amazing download/upload speed and I don't lag in other games. I'm tired of being unable to play this game, but honestly Riot is making me feel that it may not be worth it anymore.
I've had an immense amount of fun on this game over the years, and it really sucks that it's become unplayable for me from any kind of realistic standpoint. I understand that some areas (Hawaii and Alaska) are a minority demographic of players, but this just eliminated us completely (ping spiking between 120-250 from 50-90).
This is a great move for the majority of your players, and that is as aforementioned, great. For that I can respect it, I just wish I could continue to play a game I enjoy with any reliability. Anyhow, I'm sure this will be bashed before disappearing into the ether as the pointless post that it is.
Thanks and good gaming everyone.
thanks riot 90 ping now, so tring to move to a central location to balance the ping out actually screws everyone on the west coast big thanks to not really fixing the issues

Either your internet is poor, or you're flat out exaggerating.
West coast here. Went from 20 ms to 60 ms. My old latency was certainly preferable to the newer one, but it's not that bad. Completely playable.
you mean LA? the only place in the west coast that actually got below 45 ping (on a good day) was RIGHT next to LA Im in california two hours drive from LA and my ping went from 60-100 to 100-150 now
Thats your internet then. no way you should have been nearly that high before. probably has a funky routing.
I live in Alberta, had 120 before 170 now.
my ping dropped by 120... its 120 now though,xD
Why did they move it to Chicago? It seems closer to the East Coast. Why not Kansas, Kansas is like smack dab in the middle. Being a high Plat player, an average of ~60 with spikes of 100+ makes it difficult to react to things in time. Most of the pro's live in Cali, along with the devs, why would they stab themselves in the foot like that?

Chicago is actually one of the best places you can base a server at (in the U.S.) as of right now. Where it's located on the map, however, is just more or less fortunate depending on where the user is and what connections they have available. It's not really a "riot this is your fault" deal, it's more like "why don't we have a better infrastructure as a country" deal.
