i have become a believer of the church of ZZ

in season 5 the extra minion pressure gave you a marginal advantage. but with the paper turrets of season 6, and the retarded snowbally minion mechanics, putting this thing down, when your team is already ahead and the lanes are already pushing on their own, is a death sentence.

you dont even have to do anything. just sit in mid lane with your buddies and force the enemy team to react to you, and watch the turrets go down on their own.

you dont even have to risk a teamfight. we literally just won a game by sitting in mid lane, and looking menacing. because as soon as they would have sent one person to react to the minion pressure we cold have just steamrolled them 5v4 or 5v3 and ended the game right there.

to clarify, i dont think this is a fault of the item. the season 6 changes to turrets, minions and death timers were just plain dumb.

this entire strategy works without the zz. its just a lot slower.

split pushing minions make this the worst season ive seen in the 6 years ive been playing this game.

Funny how Zzrot portal changed from a gimmicky troll item to an viable rush on junglers, top laners and supports.

well, like i said. it became stronger with the snowballing minion mechanics.

before, it created a slight tilt. now it turns a slight tilt into a flood. and its a perpetually snowballing effect. when the zz and your op minions are pushing down turrets, then your minions are being buffed further and are going to push even harder.

i think this could easily be taken to the extreme. in an earlier game where i got the zz, our thresh noticed what i was doing and picked up banner of command.

put down zz top and bottom, chose a cannon minion in either lane to buff with the banner, and then group and siege mid as 5.

I tend to take it on Singed if teamfighting is rare, because he just cannot push towers down fast enough without one. Then I see the support has one. As well as the Udyr jungler because Speedyr is kinda dumb.

i think it has most potential on champions that are really good at either teamfighting, or splitpushing.

either you drop the portal in one of the side lanes, then force a siege or teamfight while its doing its business, or youre split pushing one lane and divert the attention of the enemy team, while the zz is sneaky and split pushes the other lane.

To get the maximum amount of mileage out of your void gates, run champions who love nothing more than for an enemy to engage on them or have significant zone control. Notable examples include Heimerdinger Yorick Darius DrMundo Illaoi Volibear

i picked it up on garen when our team was ahead. i already had dead mans at the time and had parts for my randuins, so it worked really well.

i think the ability to roam and exta movment sped buff of dead mans is important.

it actually didn't become that much stronger, people are just now noticeing how powerfull it actually is. I used it in S5 allready with great succes. The outer and inner turrets curently have about the same effective hp as befor, and the minion push advantage is pretty minor unless you got a big lead. Sidelane pressure alway was/is always heavily underestimated. Alone setting up a slow push befor grouping up can give a free tower - just that people don't give a damn and suicide 4vs5 while you go to setup the push... Having the lanes pushing for you by the time you group is and always was a huge advantage, and you easily can see in pro play that the best teams usually also have the best wave controll and rarly go for big fights if they don't have the sidelanes pushing for them. And ZZ just offers easy sidelane pressure, meaning you need less cordination to have a push advantage once you group, so very well suited for soloQ. Another very underestimated item is Banner of Command. Just buff a siege minion in base and group, you don't even have to go to the sidelane to push it. with banner + ZZ, you can even push both sidelanes at once.

the item itself didnt become stronger. but since minions are split pushing on their own now when youre ahead, zz adds to that pressure. thats why its so strong right now imo.

the minion buff when slightly ahead might not be very significant, but its there and will cause waves to push towards the enemy more often than towards you.

i dont know how good the item is when youre behind, since the enemy has a much easier time to invade and destroy the portal. it might contribute to your turrets in one lane not getting pushed down by minions so your team has breathing room to do something else.

but if youre ahead, you can amplify the snowball against the enemy team with this.

juast as i said befor - it did all that already. The minion changed have little impact on that. As soon as you are ahead and your opponent can't easily invade the portal, it will keep one lane constantly pushed, it did so befor winions just as it does now. And just as now, i always killed towers if left unchecked befor.
