Controversial Opinion: Admit Runes Reforge was a failure and replace it with nothing

Seriously, champions are powerful enough on their own now. Runes Reforge offers the illusion of choice but there is usually only one "optimal" choice for each champion and it usually breaks them. So what is the point of it, do we even NEED a rune system anymore? I wonder how the game would play if runes were completely removed?

the game would feel undercooked without runes, one should assume that riot has tested this extensively in house because it would be less work if the runes weren't around, but at the same time they would have to buff everyone that was relying on them which is more champs than we think.

But really the first point is most important, it would "feel" terribad like in previous seasons where one wouldn't have full access to their runes and masteries when leveling an account.

I think that runes reforged has a number of problems including that many runes are far too optimized for certain champs and not nearly enough for others.

On many champions you just take whatever is closest to what you want rather than what's optimal.

For example, all this time later we STILL have no way to get magic penetration or lethality from runes without having a dash. For some reason having a dash or invisibility for sudden impact is rewarded by having even more damage.

However, why would the game be more fun without ANY runes/masteries whatsoever? I think they add a nice amount of flavor to the game. I've played HotS where they ran a talent system and it wasn't nearly as much fun. Especially because most of the talents were random nonsense unless you were going for a niche build which was rarely better than just going the regular stuff everyone always used.

They don't add flavour to the game, they just provide more avenues for untrustworthy players to abuse in ways that Riot never intended.

And provides random excuses for trolls to whine about, apparently.
