Why do people complain about the mages played as supports but not assassins/bruisers?
They are the reason why mages are pushed into the support role.

Pretty sure Yasou/Zed/Irelia/Aatrox/Pyke get bitched about on a daily basis?
People who complaining about them are mostly ADC mains who literally complain about everything , including supports , actually they even complain about other marksmen as well
and
mains who think
is broken
and Mage mains didn't complain about anything , they simply adapted and went bot lane
Mage mains and “didn’t complain about anything” are complete anathema to each other.
Those who complain about Mages being played as support are either ADC or Support main.
It's the Mage mains' job to complain about Bruisers and Assassins.
But i'm complaining about all of them. MAGES DON'T BELONG IN SUPPORT! ASSASSINS ARE 1 SHOTTING WITHOUT LANDING HALF THEIR COMBOS! AND BRUISERS ARE OPPRESSIVE TO THE POINT I FEEL LIKE I'M A SLAVE!
Actually to be fair, the Assassin class belong in mid lane. It's the Bruisers that don't.
Assassins are being complained way more often than support mages (although last ones is far not a rare case as well)
Are you sure Mages were pushed to support?
I remember something called 8.11 or something like that. The Myth goes "We want to diversify the bot lane" The elder tell a story of weakening their oppressors so they could prevail.
Are they pushed out? or have they left and now get replaced?
I'm not even sure why anybody complains about any champion being played "in the wrong place". Who goes where is purely an emergent property based on income and experience budgets and objective control. If the support budget is sufficient for a "non-support" mage to succeed in the support role, then mage supports emerge from the meta game. If more damage and less utility prove to be a more effective strategy than whatever's currently prevalent, mages will thrive there.
In a lot of cases, off-meta choices don't even have to be "superior"; they just have to be surprising enough that the enemy team can't figure out how to deal with them before it's too late. In that regard, I guess I do understand why people complain, but it's really just whinging. "No fair, I was expecting an enchanter and you brought a mage." Tough. It is fair. The meta game, up to and including what types of champions play well in which lanes, is descriptive, not prescriptive.
Full disclosure: I don't like the current meta, but nobody's to blame for it. It just is what emerged from the system.
