Because out of all the classes, support is the stalest every game composes of at least one tank support, most of them have massive pickrates over other supports and it's been that way for over 2 years now

Really they just need to fix a couple of the support items -- it's way too easy to overcap CDR and many of the support items are kind of meh -- 
GinoSoldier2 votesI have not seen a Sona, Braum, Lulu or Soraka support in a long as hell time. Especially Sona. As a matter of fact i've seen the Maven in the mid lane a lot more than in the bot lane (which i wholeheartedly agree with, i feel like her place is genuinely Mid.).

Rozzeta2 votesI agree. The last support update got rid of the cancer of Vision wars, but at the price of introducing the scaling utility. The reduced damage in exchange of utility made it very hard to push out tanky supports, which now dominate the support meta. At least I think the support items should be looked at. Previously Riot had thought that support items should have crap stats and godly actives, but this is incompatible with the supports who had their base damage and utility nerfed in exchange of scaling damage and utility. There should be more AP options, and less CDR/mana regen, even if that AP option only comes from purchasing the last tier of a certain item.

Sona's been considered a sub-par to utter trash pick for a long time now. Tahm Kench has been seeing play, but from what I've seen more as a jungler.
That leaves tanks and Soraka, who is a fairly niche pick, when she fits a team she's amazing sometimes she's just dead weight though.
Nami sees considerably more play than Sona, which makes sense, she's superior to Sona in every single way.
