Jungle GP Was Hurt (As Was Support GP)

He's essentially forced to solo lane now. Kinda doesn't gel with his generalist identity in my opinion.

It is an AOE AA that refreshes your passive while ignoring 60% armor.

You might struggle a bit more earlier in the game for clears, but it is a huge buff later. Are you trying to stack barrels or something?

A. Jungle creeps barely have armor. Ignoring a percentage of a low sum of armor is fairly insignificant, and as a result, this fact does not largely contribute to his clears.

B. It's useless on ganks because you'll never destroy the barrel in time, let alone with them in the radius. I've even tried throwing one in my bush when trying to gank, then waiting to restock and lowering the barrel health then throwing two more out so it can reach their path and hopefully chain them. It doesn't work. It just doesn't work.

C. One AoE AA and one passive being refreshed versus every AA of yourself having a big, juicy AD boost. This, plus the fact you would've had AS reds on with this particular jungler, means the AD boost will contribute more to your clear times. I can tell you that, after trying to clear with the new GP, it was slower than it used to be. Anecdotal, take it as you will.

D. A big part of jungling is ganking, and before, GP's E gave himself and allies a MS boost to charge in to attack the enemy with. Now? His ganks are even worse than they used to be, and they were only good against champions that couldn't escape his slow before. They're now considerably worse, even against such enemies.

**E. **His AoE steroid was one of the few reasons for GP support to exist, and it's now gone.

F. This is a big hitter, for me at least. GP's new passive has a 500 doubloon requirement to upgrade his ultimate. This number was no doubt chosen with CSing minions in lane with your Q in mind, where you could theoretically get 4 doubloons every time it is off of CD and a minion is low on health. In the jungle, your doubloon progress is considerably impeded by the fact that there are fewer enemies and they take longer to be killed.

A LOT of stacking mechanics in this game give greater rewards for killing monsters instead of minions to account for the fact that your accumulation will be slower. Despite his playrate in the jungle pre-rework, no thought was given to this fact, because Gangplank's does not.

G. Given he was played over 20% of the time in a non-solo lane position, ignoring them entirely is a pretty bad move, in my opinion.

Except now he can proc sheen constantly as barrel is a cast. #damage

How is his E worse for clearing? It's an AoE autoattack/Q with 60% armor penetration, and it reprocs his passive. It's better for clearing in every way compared to his old E.

A damage boost on every single AA with a champion you would run AS reds on is going to be superior to a single AA being splashed per barrel.

Let alone the MS boost. Let alone the fact it's broadcasted to all nearby allies as well.

OK, but what about the renewed burning passive that comes from finishing off the barrel?

Evidently it procs Sheen, too. Still doesn't help his ganks where he won't be able to destroy the barrel in time for it to be relevant. How often are you going to throw a barrel, land an AA on the enemy to use your passive then somehow destroy the barrel with them in the radius, then proc it again?

It's just worse than the MS+AD steroid he had before, specifically for jungling/supporting.

Oh no, it's almost like jungle and support GP were utter shit anyways!

What a pity.

I have a 65% winrate over 26 game in Diamond as support gp. It was pretty good mate.

I found a stone in a lake. Therefore all stones are from lakes.

He was a questionable support before. Hell I've done well as Talon support because of a dickbag in champ select, and crushed lane with it. Doesn't make it good. That is the danger of small sample sizes.

What do stones have to do with anything. Stop being off topic.

I'm saying that just because you found something to be the case once (Or for a small number of times) that doesn't mean it is always so.

But how does you finding a stone in a lake in any way shape or form relate to an online video game? One's about a nature walk and the other is playing a game. False equivalence fallacy.

Are you really so stupid that you don't understand the concept of analogies?

Gangplank always had a farm identity with his Q. Support was never a design intention. It was never part of his identity. As for Jungle. I'm not aware enough to make judgement on whether or not it was ever part of his identity. But, I don't believe it was ever popular enough for it to be considered an intended role.

Unlike Zed being a Jungler. Which Riot released him as a Jungler/Mid. Which was slowly forgotten and thrown away with the various changes to the jungle since. Not a major loss, but I'm still a little disappointed.

His summoner spell choice of Smite indicates it was about 20% of the time he was jungled. Pretty significant in the grand scheme, if you ask me.

If that's right. It is significant enough for them to consider it. I'm not a fan of champions getting shoehorned into one lane either. I had just never seen anyone play jungle gp "seriously" in any of my games, so I made my conclusion on that. (But, I won't say it's not possible)

Oh no

Feels like they came up with and tested ideas while ONLY thinking of how great it'd be top lane..

Q needs to pop barrel regardless of how many charges it had, its way too easy for ranged enemies to counter and just laugh at them in their current state.

That would really help jungleplank, but it'd probably be broken in lane.

Rain NT1 votes

Easy , place a charge near you, then place a charge near them. Then hit your original barrel and it will pop the next barrel regardless

Hopeslayer1 votes

i have been trying that, but with the delay they just auto the new one out before the chain finishes

I wasn't aware that he ever had a generalist identity.

He was designed to be a melee adc. The fact that people figured out that they could do multiple roles with him isn't really part of his design.

Also, support GP has been bad for a long time(basically when they switched Q to needing the refund to be efficient). Getting worse isn't much of a problem. And actually, his ult is significantly stronger than it was which has some application to all roles.

Rain NT1 votes

I played GP support, but I rather not. GP was not meant for those two roles. They weaken it so they can buff his preferred roles. Plus jungle GP was utter trash, terrible jungle clear and bad ganks compared to other junglers (no hard cc + no real gap closer + doesnt scale really hard into late game)

If you play support as Gangplank I think you should probably get a brain surgery to correct the tumor that has grown there.
